Ring…. Ring…

Tony: “This is Tony.”

Caller: “I just read your ad on Craigslist about the depression group. Can you tell me more about it?”

Tony: “Sure. This is the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation (or Church of Scientology).

Caller: Okay - The Church of Scientology? I am googling Scientology right now. OMG - WHO is Lisa McPherson? She died at Flag in 1996 and the Co$ lied about her death. Why is Scientology considered the "most litigious Organization" on the planet. Why do they sue their critics for telling the truth? David Miscavige lives a pretty lavish lifestyle - check him out. Oh - your founder, El Con Hubbard was a liar - ever research his life for yourself? Check out Aleistar Crowley! Why do you believe everything you are told? I thought Scientology was the "science of knowing how to know" but you won't look.

Gabrielle Wynne who worked at Dublin mission on staff was told when calling in book buyers, under no circumstances to mention 'Scientology' but always call it Dianetics.

monkeyknickers • 10 years ago

That is so amazing to me. Also amazing:

no one asked "Umm - WHY?"

It's a really interesting question and it's been sorta brewing in my mind since my sister disappeared.

I was thinking . . . . . maybe it's like . . . . well - fuck it:

it's like being raised up by your parents. We're all -to some degree or another - "indoctrinated" by our family. By their strengths and weaknesses. A pretty normal process.

And if my papa called me tomorrow and said - "someone's gonna call you and ask about what happened at the liquor store last night and don't tell them a damn thing because it would hurt me"

Of course I wouldn't. Over time I suspect we all would break out of that mentality, but still . . . .

You know what? That's what cults do. They prey not only on our good nature, but they pervert on that instinctive desire to help and protect family.

Like that weird wasp that's evolved to smell like an ant and goes into the ant colony and gets them to take care of its larvae. Or the cuckoo bird who tricks other birds into caring for its eggs rather than build a nest of its own.

Am I still writing?
Ehmmmmm - sorry.

I really need to learn not to type-talk.

If you're a Scientologist reading Tony's blog here at the Underground Bunker and you're having doubts about your religion, whether it be the doctrine, the incessant, relentless regging or the leadership, but are afraid to leave because it's all you've known, or you're afraid of what to expect on the 'outside', please give the numbers on Glibby's poster (below) a call. You can speak anonymously and in strict confidence to somebody who can help you.

I promise you, the outside world isn't the enemy. As in all walks of life, some people are idiots, but most people are kind, hard working, honest, loving individuals, just living their lives. Many, many people have already left Scientology and are living happy, fulfilling, peaceful lives filled with family and friends - old and new - who love them. They, too, felt your fears as they began their break away from the church. Some took a leap of faith and discovered that the landing was soft, welcoming and forgiving. Some needed to take baby steps. But they all moved in one direction: towards the door.

For them, every day is now an adventure and they are the architects of their own lives.

You may be feeling:

Sadness and loss over saying "goodbye" to those ideals in the group you thought you could admire, the fellow members you thought were your true friends, or the time and money spent following something which turned out to be false…

Fear, that this may have been your last hope for happiness, success, enlightenment, or your eternity; that you are no longer protected by the powers of your leader and are vulnerable to evil; that you will make bad decisions for yourself without the group’s guidance, or that you will be punished for leaving...

Loneliness, at the thought of leaving intensive relationships, and now needing to reconnect with family and friends who live in a manner that your religion criticized...

Confusion, about what to believe, and how to make good decisions for yourself and your future…

Guilt, possibly associated with having broken ties to loved ones, or for having recruited others into Scientology…

Shame, when realising you were involved in an organisation that maybe made you behave in a way that you're not proud of...

If Auditing and training are still important to you they are both available outside the church, but without any of the hoops attached which you are currently expected to jump through...it is cheaper, and there will be no sec checking.

Last, but by no means least, the Freeloader Debt is NOT legally enforceable - that means they can't make you pay it.

Call those numbers. It might just be the first step to the rest of your life.

And call your family. Please. They never stopped loving you and hoping that one day you would come back to them. Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are near. Give them a call, send them your love. No guilt, no shame.

We wish you so much luck and love.

The Bunkerites.

I've been using Sharpie Tech for a while, myself. Every time I get something with postage paid envelopes back, I take a sharpie and write the following across it in big block letters.

The WOG world is a beautiful place.
We will help you.
Call 1-866-XSEA-ORG
We love you!

Sometimes I vary it a bit by specifying that the call is free.

I think we could have a bit of fun with your email suggestion by registering fake email accounts (or real if you aren't under the radar), and responding to Craigslist and Meetup ads. Let's fire up the Tor and start sending some poons to the poor suckers who have to post this cult shit!!!

Andrea "i-Betty" Garner • 10 years ago

Oh, I absolutely love it!

The WOG world is a beautiful place.
We will help you.
Call 1-866-XSEA-ORG
We love you!
NoName • 10 years ago

There's only thing I'm not sure about - and I made this point in my response to you at ESMB. Do you think that we need to specify that the call is free and can be made from any public phone? I mean, how likely is it that 2nd gens will know to walk up to any courtesy phone or payphone and try this if we don't tell em?

Andrea "i-Betty" Garner • 10 years ago

You are SO right. I will make the relevant changes everywhere I have posted it. Thank you so much. What a star :) Thank you for your input over at ESMB, NoName, and you Sidney! :)

Truly a community effort.

[edit]

This is how the top now appears:

Helplines:

866-XSEAORG - The call is completely free and can be made from any public telephone.

[edit2]

I have also made a change based on a suggestion from Bea Kiddo at ESMB which I agreed were important to dedicated scientologists who might be genuinely afraid that this is a set-up. Let's face it, who can you trust after years in the SO or even as a Public?

So I've added Bea's suggestion, as follows:

You can speak anonymously and in strict confidence to somebody who can help you, and will receive non-judgemental moral support, as well as real life advice with setting up your new life.

And now this is a cross-community effort. The Bunker and ESMB combined. I can't tell you how proud that makes me.

Baby...Trudy Hylant • 10 years ago

OMG.. Wow.. you are doing such a good job Betty.. I just love you..

Baby...Trudy Hylant • 10 years ago

Betty Good Lord woman you have been busy.. I am going to fix the one with the UK number.. I love that you have been brainstorming..

While I was enjoying the beach..hahahahhaha.. OK off to fix..xo BBL

aegerprimo • 10 years ago

NoName - I reposted that PDF I made with your words and posted in on the ESMB thread iBetty started. Just this month I've probably sent 20+ in return envelopes. I get A LOT of scientology mail.

Here is a link to the post - http://www.forum.exscn.net/...

NoName • 10 years ago

Thanks, I cross posted your ESMB thread to the thread that iBetty started on ESMB as well.

Baby...Trudy Hylant • 10 years ago

Welcome NoName.. Great suggestions..Thank you.

Sidney18511 • 10 years ago

I-Betty. I love what your doing' Have you emailed Mike rinder at his blog to ask him if he would except this post there? He has many doubters that lurk on his blog. Also a new thread on ESMB and OCMB might reach some people.

Andrea "i-Betty" Garner • 10 years ago

Sidney, thank you, thank you :) What makes it so good is that it's a community effort. So many Bunkerites and Bunkerettes (thank you Cars!) had a hand in the wording, and of course Glibby made the beautiful signs.

I will post over at OCMB and ESMB right now :) I'll also see if there is some way I can email Mike Rinder at his blog :)

[edit]

Posted on OCMB in Wieber's brilliant thread: What Would you Say to a Lurking Scientologist? - http://ocmb.xenu.net/ocmb/v...

Posted on ESMB, but only got as far as posting the explanation for our message before the forum went down, so I'll try again in a while! ..... It has now been posted in a new thread called: Thinking of Leaving Scientology? http://www.forum.exscn.net/...

I've emailed Mike Rinder, too.

Thanks again for the great idea, Sidney :)

Baby...Trudy Hylant • 10 years ago

Ok... Betty... Since you are doing such a great job coordinating everyone..
I took the UK Number off..

Baby...Trudy Hylant • 10 years ago

oops I forgot this one.. Do you like them better without the frame?

Missionary Kid • 10 years ago

The Bunkerites are acting like white cells going against a destructive germ that has attacked humankind. The cooperation, toatally voluntary, is incredible. All of you ROCK.

I also came across this, referred to me by Operation Clambake ( xenu.net ) http://leavescientology.blo... a gold mine of information and resources for those who are thinking of leaving $cientology.

Baby...Trudy Hylant • 10 years ago

Thanks Betty..

Sidney..Thank you.. I'm glad Betty is handling it.. I didn't give you a very good answer earlier. I'm sorry.. : /

Baby...Trudy Hylant • 10 years ago

Sidney.. I wanted to make sure that you received my apology for giving you a less than satisfied answer today..

I am so glad that you asked Betty to check it out.. She is the one who is organizing ..I am the artist.

I was not helpful at all.. sigh.. I just wasn't thinking... Glibby...

iBetty,
I think this is wonderful. Love the poster as well as the message. All hell must be breaking lose in Clearwater with the SO and staff right now and the public are probably questioning more now.
Here's a couple of thoughts:

1) Post this on our local Craigslists - under religion. (After all we have the "hatted" instructions, eh?)

2) Perhaps various Bloggers will allow this to be posted as an Ad on their sites. (Add "call is free" to the poster.

I went to a lecture yesterday with Victor Stenger and I was chatting with a woman sitting next to me before it started . We were talking about religion..just in broad terms ...out of the blue she said to me " Have you heard about the Scientologists ? I mean talk about something totally ridiculous " ...a guy in front of us turned around and told us to go to THIS BLOG for great info and comments !!!! It was pretty cool ..Tony ...you are awesome

That is just perfect. This little spider network is everywhere!

L. Wrong Hubturd • 10 years ago

And I think little Davey is scared of spiders.

Guest • 10 years ago

I think David is afraud (sic) of FBI agents and SWAT more than afraid of anything else at the point... except for having his ass parked in front of a Judge sitting inside a witness stand getting grilled on his orders to commit racketeering harassment against women.

L. Wrong Hubturd • 10 years ago

Hey, you just Hubbarded two new words there. Afraud and Afraiud. Both seem to fit actually, with no dictionary tech needed for complete understanding. Bravo!

richelieu jr • 10 years ago

Observer, we need a blog from the Original The Fly with Vincent Price as the fly in the web and DM's head over his as the spider comes closer and he is screaming 'Help Meeeee!'

What should the spidey be called? Reality? Grand Jury? Court Summons?
