As we are aware lakhs of students every year start their academic life opting for professional courses like engineering and medicine with many aspirations. Ragging is completely avoidable with the right kind of counseling and awareness the sort of which your program can generate.

It is not just alcoholism that is causing havoc but even one- off episodes of binging can lead to devastating consequences. And this is often undertaken by young people who are experimenting with drugs and alcohol to enjoy the exhilaration of risk. Unfortunatley the power house of India, also known as BOLLYWOOD has begun glamorizing the use of alcohol and drugs - vivid images of actresses and actors drinking, getting intoxicated, snorting drugs, injecting drugs are being made to look COOL and DESIRABLE! Of COURSE kids are going to look up to them and start doing the same. This is a trend driven by Bollywood and only Bollywood has the power to drive some sensible behaviors amongst young people. Even change in law and policy won't work because it will be seen as 'cool' to break the rules. We need better cinema that is directed and creating a healthier and more responsible youth and therefore a wiser and healthier India.

Thank you so much for spreading the AA message in your last
show.
My dad was an AA member .Just like your show showed, he hit
rock bottom and then only after joining AA did he get a wonderful life for
himself and his family.  He became a successful executive, dad,
husband and son but it was only because he became an AA member first. My sister
and I never saw our dad as an alcoholic but we know every bit of the havoc it
caused and the trauma that my mom had to go through living with an alcoholic
husband. We had a wonderful childhood and an amazing life thanks to AA. My dad
did relentless work spreading the message of AA and helped 100s of families - it
was his dream that the AA message be spread such so that every alcoholic who
desires to recover knows where to go. We spoke to my dad’s AA friends yesterday
and they said they got 70,000 calls after you show was aired.
I lost my dad 13 years ago and what your show did was his
dream come true and so I wanted to thank you on his behalf.  Every
show of yours is amazing beyond words and we are grateful to you for each and
every one but I cannot thank you enough for this one.

As javed ji told , young generation
thinks drinking as glamorous.

They think like this because they
see such things in movies and televisions.

My suggestion is every person who
makes movie or any TV serial should not use Alcohol to showcase the  glamour.

Instead they should portrait Alcohol
as decease.  The young generation at
least will have second thought before they want to try Alcohol.

yea.. this is right.. alcohol should not be used in any tv serial or movie as glamorous...
instead it must be shown as a curse to  society......

Movies/Tv Serials DO NOT ENCOURAGE DRINKING.  If your son/daughter is stupid enough to follow stunt in movies, its his/her problem. PLEASE DO NOT BLAME MOVIES for it.

 TV Serials and Movies shows lots of good things same as much full glamorous to do for our society. Does these people who get attracted towards alcohol do they even once get attracted about good things to do for our society. Its all in us who makes a society and country.
The choices are made by us at last.
Simple Example: A human can use a matchstick to make food to fill stomach of society (Good choices).
                         But any man can use same matchstick to burn our society (a bad choices).
So first we have to change our mind set.(As bad is always it cannot become good at any stage.)

I have been living in London for the past 11 years. Although I have seen most of the episodes of 'Satyemev Jayete' but I was extremely touched by today's episode on alcoholism. We all knew about the negative aspects of regular and excessive drinking by people but the greatest thing I observed is the extensive research you and your team have done in bringing to the attention certain very very important aspects that many of us failed to notice. I always took pride in drinking occasionally only to realise today that by no means it is an achievement but it's the fact that how responsibly you drink. The one very important lesson I have learnt today is that one's strength does not lie in the fact that for how long one does not drink but the fact that how responsibly one drinks even if it is very occasionally.

I congratulate you and also on behalf of my family in doing such a great service to the community and I am sure you are not at all bothered by the negative criticism and artificial threats posed by some of the very insecured people. Our heartiest congratulations to you and please keep up this excellent work.

Be a master not a slave of habits

The vegetable should be more affordable than alcohol is what I strongly believe. So why not push government to put 10 times the taxes on alcohol used for consuming as liquor. Let the spirit be as highly priced as the spirit to buy it. And the extra tax can be used to treat the affected ones.

I  always feel its my duty to watch your show satyamev  jayate because through this show i can learn alot of things and then i always try to apply such type good things in my own life.thinks aamir sir satyamev jayate............

If Aamir khan Prefer to take alcohol occasionally or in party, event etc.., as he already mentioned at the end of the Alcohol Abuse Episode, what if he could have said at the the end of the program Say No Alcohol instead of ''A Bit of Alcohol''.... What does religion say?  It says Alcohol is forbidden in every religion especially in Islam. ''Alcohol contains Evil''  Thanks     

 and I am really amazed that I have been treated as a stranger to this world for not drinking a drop ever or not smoking!!!...it' a simple thing to understand that drinking or smoking is not anyway related to smartness...and smart people continue this mistake even when they know it...and put a lot of reasons (excuses in fact) to defend this idiotic action...
and there are brainless people who first drink and then drive just to behave like a filmy hero without even realizing that it's not only about their lives...but they can also drag an innocent's life into danger without any prior notice!!!...Now I live in Europe...and when I go back friends ask me...you still don't learn to drink?...total waste....and I just smile on them...

Is there an organization like MADD-'Mothers against drunk drivers in India'?  this organization was started in the US in 1980,something along those lines must be started to spread awareness amongst people.Also very important is the participation of the Police force WITHOUT accepting bribes from the perpertrators and last but not least for our LAWYERS to be honest and uphold the law.Every second day we read about Actors and sons of Industrialists and rich business men killing poor innocent people and getting away scot free with just a rap on their wrists!!!

I am Sreejata from UK, originally from Mumbai.
The issue of alcoholism is such a crucial issue which is the major cause of all the big and major problems in our society. If we have a closer look at the picture, then majority of the domestic violence and sexual abuses are caused by men who are drunk. It kills human beings slowly as well as immediately.
Such was a story of my best friend in college on 31st December night when he was extremely drunk and was driving 2-wheeler with his friend. They met with a disastrous accident which took him away from me. From that day onwards, I have a complete hatred towards drinking. The reason why he went into drinking was his failure in examination. So we see that one of the major reasons why people drink is to forget their problems in life for sometime which indicates that psychological weakness of human beings is one of the major cause why people get into drinking habbits.
Another incident in my life was when one of my collegemate was dragged by the pune bus driven by a drunk driver and that driver's mistake took my friend's life forever from me which till date i have never been able to forget because it happened in front of my eyes.
I would spread this message that drink only if you can control and be within limits.Live and Let live.Thank you Aamir ji for bringing such a delicate issue into limelight. Satyamev Jayate!

First of all my sincere condolences to all the families who lost their beloved people to alcohol and alcohol related injuries or accidents. My heart goes out for them who didn't participate in drinking but became the victims. In London, we have a number of teenagers including children aged 10 who start drinking at an early age and lost their lives by the time they turn 15 or so. Every week we see people throwing up on streets, stumbling on the roads, becoming rape victims, participating in sex with strangers and ending up pregnant in a drunken session sometimes fuelled extra by drugs. Our hospitals had to put up extra wards to treat these party drinkers who thought they were socialising but instead end up in Emergency wards occupying the time, resources and space from those patients who are in real emergencies. They are well dressed and well heeled people. Drinking responsibly is something a lot of people ignore but with help of friends and family this can be done. Kids as young as 10 should be educated about alcohol and it's consequences and legal limits and should be shown videos of people who lost their dear ones to alcohol or suffered liver damage. In fact even parents should be shown these videos as most of us have known, problem can start at home when either of the parents drink regularly setting an example to kids who mimic them and think it is ok. There should be stricter controls on drink driving like regular breathalyser and other tests like done in other countries. In UK we give points on Driving license if found drink driving which should be declared on job applications, so people are wary of that. Here if people normally go for a party they appoint a driver designate, someone who will not drink and drive them back home and they can take turns. Prohibition has never been popular in India and people do get to state borders to get alcohol but at the least it deters many who simply can't put up that work. Cost of alcohol should be high enough that young people cannot afford and are deterred by it and parents should be sensible when they keep asking for money. Alcohol at home should be in a sealed cabinet and not left around for kids to taste. Instead of disowning the children who drink, parents should show patience and take them immediately to groups like AA where they could be rescued before they get deeply into it. Possibly colleges can have the counselling done in a room after college hours where such meetings can be arranged as this problem is mostly prevalent in college students. One must understand that every human body is unique and has it's own tolerance and absorption levels to alcohol so even if you are within the legal limits you maybe still under risk. Also another important thing is food. French people drink a lot of wine but they eat in between and drink on the side which slows down the harmful effect of alcohol in the system. Finally please remember we have only one liver and it will be very hard to get a transplant unless someone else dies and gives it to us, so be kind and try not to get that far. Simple changes like these will help India not to go to a stage where other countries are struggling to cope.

It was a very eye opening episodeJust getting off the vehicle will save the other passengers lives in the car, but if this guy continues to drive he is going to kill innocent people on the street which they do not deserve.Please call the cops if he resists, restraining so he doesnt become a threat on the road,in this aspect do not consider are,color,sex,position A DRUNK IS A DRUNK.

I wanted to congratulate and to thank you on your episode on Alcohol Abuse.  I am a counsellor in Canada who works with Indian men affected by alcohole abuse.  Often these men will tell me that alcohol is only a problem in Canada because it is more accessible.  However your show shed light on the fact that alcohol is very much a problem in India.  Your show was so powerful, and its message and content so well researched and accurate that I assign viewing this particular episode to the men as a homework assignment.  I have found that when they see the reality of alcohol in their homeland and in their mother tongue it has a bigger more positive impact than my teachings alone.  It becomes more of a reality and more personal; to the point that they begin to understand the error of their ways.  I cannot thank you enough for this.  I think you started this series to shed light on issues that you believed were important in modern Indian.  However, I don't think you had any idea of the positive impact you would (and do) have on individuals living thousands of miles away...in another part of the world.  You have had a profound impact and will continue to as I will continue to recommend your episode on alcohol abuse as mandatory viewing.  Once again thank you!

Aamir sir i waant you to showcase the problems from its roots laws are made but are not followed by people. People watch your show so that they can express their sadness about the problem but people won't take a step to improve the situation. This the main problem of our country and this is the root cause of all the problems.

The first step for action is awareness. There are some passionate people, perhaps like yourself, who will follow through with this. Education and realizing that 'YES, this is actually a REAL problem' is he first step.

Jai Ho satymev jayate, you are doing an amazing job our country needs it badly and you will see the results that a lot of people will surrender which will benefit them and their families who are the victims of this bad situation.  The minute we as adults realise that we have a problem and which has to be rectified rather than blaming others see how we can improve this will change the world. Life is to short and just do the right thing and see the heaven on earth. We all are in Melbourne Australia and we all love watching satymev jayate. It was shocking to know that alcoholism is not a habit but disease. I wish that people will understand it and get rid of this disease soon.
It seems many people drink to relax or to take out their frustation and anger or forget about unpleasant part of their life. But this is not the right solution. There are many productive way to resolve personal issues e.g. meditation, yoga etc.

Best part was the last message by Aamir i.e. "Drink responsibly". And always think how best this money can be used which you are spending on alcohol.

alcohol is a problem worldwide. im from New Zealand aur main satyamev jayate ka koi bhi episode miss nahi karti. ek baat mujhe bahut buri lagti hai k youtube pr jitna bhi episode ya koi bhi videos maine dekha hai us k niche jo comments hote hai, koi bhi topic ho beech me islam, terrorist ya ye kah lo ke religious criticism q aa jata hai. hala k topic ka religion se koi lena dena nahi hota.

hi i am from usa.. i loved ur each and every episode.. alcohol should be ban to teenager who are younger than 21 years old. and if they go to buy alcohol from market there they should ask for ID on which there birthday is written. secondly, parents should talk to there youngsters about cons of consuming alcohol. thirdly there should be  awareness against alcohol in which they will tell why not to consume alcohol, related damages physically and emotionally and all other related to this esp. drunk driving..if they are addict to alcohol, they should go for treatment.

One solution for drinking and driving cases. This is something practised in West.  One of the person in the group voluntarily accepts to become "Designated Driver". He will not drink and will be responsible to dropping others in his group to their homes. The pub rewards him by giving free non alcoholic drinks etc.

Drinking problem can only be solved by the drinker himself and the society support , I wish people in India start wearing seat belts even in the passenger seats drinking alone wasn't the only cause of death in the story no seat belt flipped them out of the car So sad hope and pray this bad practice of alcoholism will some day gets out of our lives.

First of all I will say that bring some level of honest in your program because on one hand you talk about Alcohol but on the other end you do advertisement for Cold drinks which is equally dangerous as pointed out in numerous scientific report and the height is latest report in which certain brand is supposed to have alcohol.So don't preach what you don't follow only for money for it is biggest sin.

very very true Viswas....THE STARS(BOLLYWOOD, HOLLYWOOD, CRICKET, FOOTBALL) should be FINED heavily for advertising brands which are harmful for children.....namely SOFTDRINKS . You rightly brought this point....Most of these stars themselves do NOT drink such harmful cold drinks nor do they give to their children.......but makes other children suffer.....

Rightly said @Mario and @Viswas because TV is very powerful media in establishing the belief of people and especially soft mind that of Kids so it would have been good if Amir can run a episode on personal honesty of Public figures.Till sometime back Amitabh used to ads of Honey and now Shilpa when there is already a report as how this honey sold in India contains Anti-biotics and are not good for kids but who cares till they are getting paid.Sachin may be a great cricketer but does it really translates him as good human being --- I think no because he has also done ads for Cold drinks which if sold in Europe with this quality as it is sold in India will attarct death punishment ---but who cares in India ---people are cattle ---this is very sad and still there is chance for Amir to improve on this

I must clarify one thing here that this is just straight talking as you expect more from Amir.The present serial about Alcohol was eye opener and very good and I wish that may lot of people benefit from it .
But at the same time I think that it should not remain just one face of coin and Amir should cover from all perspective if even it means for me to straightaway accept that his Cola Ad was wrong or something on similar line.He is in tight spot or at a place where everybody can see him so even a light dark spot will be visible and I understand that it should not be tough thing for him.
