I've used literally none of the information I learned in college, except the art of the feast (Human Societies) which I use once a year on Thanksgiving. Otherwise, the various factoids I learned are of no use whatsoever in the real world. Has it affected my career at all: No, but it does make you wonder if it was worth 200K.

REVISED VERSION

Onward STEM majors
Marching as to war
With the flag of Data
Going.on before.

Yale the royal master
Does the word proclaim
"Down with Bloom and Shakespeare
Humanities go in shame"

Onward giga-soldiers
Crowns and thrones must go;
Let the flag of Data
From the Cloud above us
Ever wave and flow.

I just can't begin to sum up everything terribly wrong with this column.

merope • 9 years ago

So it seems. Have a go, though.

STEM is vocational school or rather vocational college.

Goldie '08 • 9 years ago

C'mon PK - you're better than that.

Shreyas Tirumala • 9 years ago

I respectfully disagree. Much of modern scientific learning has no practical value; everything from theoretical physics to theoretical computer science is worth studying.

Marching as to war
With the flag of Data
Going on before.

Yale the royal master
Leads against the foe.
Forward in to battle:
Humanities must go.

Down with Bloom and Shakespeare
Crowns and thrones laid low.
But the flag of Data
From the Cloud doth blow.
