As a registered Democrat ( a Bernie Sanders " socialist ? ) I can only encourage our Senator Reed to support this treaty with Iran- if it at least avoids more horrible war in the Middle East.. But some sensible questions were not asked : Why did the United States not pressure Israel to dismantle its own nuclear arsenal ? Why is it morally acceptable for Israel to possess nuclear weapons and not Iran ? The whole world has a different opinion about Zionist Israel not also spreading " terrorism ".
And how can apartheid Israel possibly endear itself to democratic voters in the United States ? Who said that WE ( the mostly Christian working class ) have " a special relationship with Israel ". ?
More and more working class Christians identify with the poor , oppressed Palestinians. And Netanyahu 's arrogant -and meddling -speech before the fawning U.S. Congress did NOT win any new support for Israel - which has its own " race " problem ( too many Palestinian voters ? ).
Think about all this please, Senator Reed.

I think the headline is a bit misleading as Reed is mostly positive about the treaty as well he should be, as the alternative is much worse, Iran freer to proceed with nuclear development, a break with our allies, eroding sanctions, and eventually a likly choice between a nuclear armed Iran or a disastrous new war in the region. But the Senator is quite right to want to read the details before being totally supportive.

As for Israel, not a signatory to ther non-proliferation treaty, they are uniquely a country whose very existence is openly and repeatedly threatened, so I can understand why they feel a nuclear deterrence is needed. If they have such weapons, they certainly have not brandished them irresponsibly.
Also, it is astounding that a self-identified "socialist" would ally with the Arabs against Israel when the jihadis intending to eliminate Israel share no progressive or socialist values and if successful, would not only eliminate the Jews but threaten the rights of all religious minoriietc,es, women, gays, socialists, atheists, rights that are far far better in Israel than any of their neighbors.
