The African Union is finally moving more towards a structure where the AU can sort problems out that arises in countries at risk. I don't think there is a possibility in the near future where the UN will change its Charter, as many countries would then say but they also want representation on the SC. I think Africa should rather focus on the African Union, get the organization to fulfill its duties without funding from the EU and the UN. Once the AU is capable of intervening with military force where necessary, the UNSC should not be allowed anymore to make decisions without the approval of the AU PSC first.

Once the manpower is in place for the intervention brigades and we sort out our funding problems then we can start moving towards this goal.

Africans governments remain worst dictators with there brutal adminstration. Falls democracy, dispute a presidential elections well experienced. Insignificant human rights respection in the coninenet
Such dictators shouldn't have a right to claims to be a member of UN security Council.
Other wise the security Council turn debuted in world face

Let's not start calling an entire continent out. Putin is described by some as a dictator, yet Russia has a permanent seat on the security council? So I guess there isn't a 'country is not run by a dictator' requirement. W. Bush as well as many other leaders of 'Western democracies' can also be labelled as war criminals - forces under their control who commit crimes against humanity. Hell, UN forces are in the news almost every day because of crimes they commit. What exactly is your point?

It's about representation. You cannot name yourself a democratic institution where the powerful decide who represents the less powerful. That's not how it works, even though that is what the US and other countries think it should work. Also, it's about representing an entire country - it doesn't matter who the leader of the country is, that is why Mugabe and the likes get to appear before the General Assembly as an equal - because he is representing HIS country, and who that country chooses is up to them, not to you or 'the West'. Even though I definitely do not like Mugabe nor what he has done to his country, it his Zimbabweans choice - not mine or anyone outside of that country.

and why should Africa get a veto vote? Africa has shown no reasonable ability to even sorting out the smallest of problems and has no military to back up its actions... maybe one day when Africa has the military and resources it can have a say, but until Africa fix its problems, i can not see it ever happening ...

maybe africa should focus on getting rid of people like robert mugabe and other dictators...

Because if an African country does not have a veto vote, a country such as the US along with NATO allies come in and wipe a government completely out (Libya), then the Islamic State becomes powerful and then those countries who took the decision just raise their shoulders as if they could not have anticipated such a reaction...

African countries, who gets the majority of attention from the UN, and with good reason, should be represented. South Africa along with a great deal of other African countries do have militaries to back up its actions. The majority of all UN operations on the African continent are staffed by African peacekeepers - including South African peacekeepers. So if if the UN uses our soldiers to achieve the goals they set themselves, without African representation, how would that be fair?

If we have African representation on the Security Council, African states will start cooperating more regarding security. If there is African representation, let's use an example such as South Africa, then we can veto stupid things such as the Libya intervention etc. If there is a problem, such as in the DRC, the CAR, we as a country have a say in how our peacekeepers are being used.

Representation is everything, and it's clear that you do not understand the concept, but representation is very important.

There was no need of specialized military force and big economy to defeat their specialized enemies in Africa. So African unity and solidarity is one of the best reasonable abilities of the Africans to fight terrorism and to have veto power on the council. Since World War2, everything had changed in the world except the number of permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. Why? Five(5) is not the other name of the God. I believe that it has to change with changes.
