Sorry to say, even you Farida could not mention a name of a leader. Now the point remains that you went to other countries and saw leaders celebrated. They are leaders not rulers. You cannot equal the likes of Ghandi Mandela and Nkrumah with what we have in Nigeria. Legitimacy is a great mark of a leader. It is not forced, but earned. We are no fools here. The Mandela you know made the people his priority. The citizens of these countries you gave as examples enjoy social amenities far above what we have here. When I visited Ghana for one week, there was power supply throughout and even when there was power outage. It was announced and restored in 15 minutes. I mean 15 minutes in 168 hours.
Since I was born I have never had such an experience. In Ghana you could see happiness on the faces of the people when you hit the streets. The case is a reverse back home. It's obvious that those ruling us never see us as equals that's why they should live and have access to better lives than the citizenry. But there is God. If they saw us as equals they would treat us better and not create class. I remember when GSM came into Nigeria. The common man could not afford it. We were clearly made to see that it was meant for the rich. SIM cards were sold at cut throat prices making the network providers especially MTN enjoy abnormal profits. There was no recession. Who can believe same SIMs sold then for almost 35k would be sold at N100 today with preloaded credit.
Not until some Nigerians travelled out of the country and realised the pepper and tomato sellers in Benin Republic and Ghana use cell phones, that was when things started changing. Nigerians were unhappy and felt shortchanged. Are these the people you want us to celebrate. Yo just want us to celebrate people who are supposed to serve us and are dealing us death deals and blows?
Do you have an idea, the losses experienced by Nigerians because of these people of which it has grown worse since Buhari took over? From jobs to lives and properties to rights and dignity.
It hurts. Under this kind of condition, what is there to celebrate. If people celebrate you it's because you impacted them positively. Do not forget that element.
Like I said, you don't force it. Secondly I call them rulers in Nigeria not leaders and I know you understand the difference. Please also stop saying people don't bad mouth their president's elsewhere. We know what Trump is facing in America.

She is hustling for EFCC chair, nothing for her. How many arrest, jail, and recovery of funds did we see during her time as EFCC chief? People like this woman should not insult nigerians with advise. Madam, why are people not celebrating you?

joshua • 7 years ago

Very explicit and apt write up? GBU bro

Gaskiyatruth • 7 years ago

Good write-up. Moreover, those foreign leaders mentioned are unlike the rulers we have back home. The leaders pursued people-centred policies unlike the selfish, self-centered policies we have back home. You couldn't charge the foreign leaders with nepotism and religious bigotry.

Frank talk. Well done. But Nigeria woes did not start with this government. The last administration had all it entailed to take Nigeria out of the woods. But because of power The president allowed all manners of corruption. The Babanida and Abacha regimes set Nigeria back by 100 years! The Shehu Sagari government was nothing to write home about. It stagnated Nigeria for 10 years. I'm not saying Obasanjo's government is 50% but the GSM you talk about came to limelight during his government. EFCC, ICPC and others were formed during his government. I had expected Jonathan to tackle the power (though not a problem he caused but since he came on board it meant he agreed to solve the problems on ground) but he failed. Just look at the loot during his government. It is sad!

Emeka • 7 years ago

President Goodluck Jonathan achieved in power sector in various geographic zones more than any other in the history of power generation. Remember that he single handedly unbundled NEPA and came up with so many achievements among which are: Zungeru project in Niger State, 700MW, Gurara II project – Niger State,360MW
Gurara I Project Niger State -30MW. Completed transmission grids include - 330/132/32KV Ganmo SS (new), 300MVA, 330/132 KV Katampe SS (Ext), 150 MVA, 132KV DC Ganmo (Ilorin/Osogbo SC Turn in/ Turn out), 2km, 330KV DC Ganmo (Jebba/Osogbo SC turn in/ Turn out), 12km, 330 KV DC Ajaokuta-Lokoja-Gwagwalada, 222km, Jos – Kafanchan 132 KV D/C line, Plateau and Kaduna State, 80km of 132 KV transmission line. 2 x 30 MVA 132/33KV SS at Pankshin and makeri, Plateau state, 60MVA transformer capacity at 132kv level in Makeri and Pankshin towns in Plateau state. 2 x 60MVA, 132/33kv substation, FCT, 30MVA transformer capacity at 132kv level in Kwanar Dangora.

Before President Jonathan’s administration transmission and distribution was about 5,500MW. Statistics shows that transmission and distribution capacity has increased from about 5,500MW before the reforms to over 6,800 MW then. Distribution capacity has also increased from about 5,088 MW before the reforms to over 7,300MW then.

It is sadist like you and others in the SW and North who never saw anything good in him and orchestrated his exit through various dangerous means. In as much I do not wish Buhari dead, but our people use to say that he who gathers lizard infested firewood called lizards to come and feast. We also say that whatever anybody brought upon himself, let him carry it. In other words law of karma has caught up with Buhari and that is what he is facing today. My only prayer for him, is that God should have mercy on him and use his present predicament to teach him lesson.

Mercury • 7 years ago

Typical Igbo GEJ apologist. GEJ my foot.
We are talking of leaders in the mold of Mandela, Nyerere and their likes. You are here, writing imaginary trash about GEJ fake achievements in the power sector, as if you were the only one in Nigeria, when all the fake achievements were recorded. Please, give us a brake over GEJ, PMB trash talks. As far as I am concerned, we have had and still have rulers in Nigeria and not leaders. Even, the ethnic, northern and Islamic bigotry of Buhari, does not in any way, qualify him as a leader, as far as I am concerned

Olatubosun • 7 years ago

Jonathan ruined this country

Emeka • 7 years ago

Your hate made it look so. He did well and you ingrates harangued him out and brought a clueless and sick man who ruined everything till date.

joshua • 7 years ago

Continue blaming past government. "You no de shame?" What did bubu do when he was the C-I-C in 1984? why do you exonerate him? cant you read the write up above by Tiboxi? Guy be objective ok?

Foluso • 7 years ago

Who is to blame if past governments are not blamed? I ask you again, can you exonerate any past ruler for our present predicament? I'm not a party man I'm just an observer and it is sickening to see people praising a ruler from their tribe no matter how brutal or corrupt he or she is. You are not being objective yourself because you are referring to the past from just one man's angle. You should take everything holistically. I'm not supporting this government's policies either but to some extent the president is trying to fight corruption but corrupt people are working against him.

Olatubosun • 7 years ago

Past administration failed us in many things.
Thanks to buhari that deliver us from the deadly politicians

Mercury • 7 years ago

Buhari is not a leader, he is an ethnic and religious bigot, that cannot unite Nigeria. So, stop glorifying him here. This will make people like Farida Waziri, to be unnecessarily happy. PMB, as far as I am concerned is not deserving of such accolades, as at his age, he has failed to be a uniting force for the country and a has been more of a symbol of disunity.

adewale • 7 years ago

P. M.B IS A LEADER HE'S NOT CORRUPT THAT'S WHY HE IS FIGHTING CORRUPTION BADLY

Mercury • 7 years ago

Buhari cannot be said to be a leader, based only on his fight against corruption. His ability to unite Nigerians of all ethnic and religious background, create an economic architecture that will give hope and ultimately transform the lives of most Nigerians from poverty to comfort, among others, will qualify him as a leader. But as far as I am concerned, Buhari, as at today, will not go down, in the history of Nigeria as a leader, who unify Nigerians and brings prosperity to them.

arise_9ja • 7 years ago

In the 2017 budget proposal submitted by Buhari, Buhari will pay himself N556 million for sitting allowance. Out of 43 days of 2017, Buhari has been incapacitated for 24 days. Nigerians deserve what they are getting from Buhari administration because we were warned.

papred06 • 7 years ago

The 24 days is part of his annual leave.

Patrick • 7 years ago

How many days in total is his leave for the year? Standard leave is 40 days, if he has already used up 25...well.

Prosecutor and defendant government. Make una continue.

This is what you get when you keep recycling these stupid nigerian leaders.

Patrick • 7 years ago

You mean rulers not leaders. Leaders lead people to greatness, rulers on the other hand rule people and enrich themselves.
That being said if you take a look at the coming generation are they much better? I pray so.

Nigerian had no reason to celebrate any of our past and present leaders. President Buhari is no exception from the rest of the corruption infested regime. Babachir awarded hundreds millions of grass cutting contracts to himself.
The chief of staff of President Buhari was allegedly bribed by Sahara energy.
The head of Nigerian armed forces Buratai used weapon money to purchase houses in Dubai.
The list goes on.
Naira is trading in the black market at 500 to $1.
Nigerian are going to bed with empty stomach.
What's here to celebrate,

I am disappointed with Punch for giving this useless, corrupt woman this much space to insult Nigerians with her worthless sermon. Which Nigerian leader you want to celebrate or pray for? You must be one of the worst hypocrites seeking attention this time. Do you know how many innocent Nigerians this jihadist has supervised their ruthless killing in under 20 months of his rudderless administration? From the Shiites to Agatu in Benue, to Enugu to Southern Kaduna? They are over 3000 people, men, women, children, sick and old, protesters in the south east and this heartless murderer never paid any attention? Which of these peoples would you want to wish the murderer well, you stupid woman? His life is not worth discussing sef. It's God that rules. Man can only lead. When a man chooses to rule, he is challenging God and his end is near. Name one of those world leaders that supervised the wanton killing of their unarmed civilians by their military?

Madam waziri you deserve to be insulted for this lopsided trash of observation because you are one of the so called leaders.

Love, sincerity and good are generally reciprocal. Nigeria does not have leaders but rulers, oppressors, ethnic bigots, greedy and worthless individuals on top. If you are unfortunate to meet the convoy of a so called leader in traffic, you understand what I mean and this trend is replicated in every area of life.

How many unarmed people have died under buharis shameless military just for exercising their rights? How many died in elections? You kill and oppress people and still want to force them to wish you well and pray for your welfare - this mentality is why Nigeria has never moved forward this past 60yrs and will never move forward. Many worthless people bulldoze their way to power and start believing their life is worth more than every other person.

The only good news of this president medical leave, is that the VP has started to so something the president refuse to do. As a president governing in time of extreme hardship and insecurity. A very important job of the president is cheer leading, listening to people, standing with the people. The VP is less than two weeks has done a few things that should have being done. going to visit Niger delta, going to visit other regions, making statement on what is going on in Nigeria. cheering leading various policies.

DeMajority • 7 years ago

Did you say refused to do or could not do? Isn't it obvious that PMB lack political understanding and ability?

Patrick • 7 years ago

Almost a month without so much as a show from the president of a country. Imagine.

real • 7 years ago

What is the crazy woman talking about. go and read what those great leaders of those country have done. go and read what they gave up for their country, how they worked towards a better country. you don't get images of you or an airport named after you for poor economy and plunging the country into recession. you don't get hailed for ignoring the killing of Nigerian's in Nigeria. Nigeria current leaders have not done any thing to merit the people hailing them. we don't wish anyone death, but we reserve the right not to hail them for their lack of governing and possible destruction.

Mercury • 7 years ago

Mrs. Waziri is asking why Nigerians wish their leaders dead? The answer is not far fetched, it is because, the leaders care less, if the citizens they superintend die or live. Infact, many have died and or are presently dying, as a result of bad economic management, brazing stealing of common patrimony under their care etc.
Mrs. Waziri should be told that it takes a well taken care, well fed citizens, to go out of their way to be fasting and praying for their leaders.
However, for me, I will never pray or wish evil for any man. I sincerely wish and pray for the quick recovery of our President Buhari
