What a crap answer. Linux Ubuntu has gone straight down to hell. The latest versions using the asinine .YAML files and NetworkManager are written by loser geeks who have nothing better to do than exercise their power by screwing up a once stellar OS. Now when I install Ubuntu server 20.04 from scratch, all NICS are left in a permanent "DOWN" state, not allowing you to install any "ifconfig" or "sytemctl" tools necessary for fixing the problem! So, you need tools to fix and re-enable your down NIC...that you can't install because networking is broken right out of the box. To all of the morons who've contributed to ruining this once solid OS, GTFO.

Thank you very much for this! I had the same issue and thought it might be because I was upgrading from 19.04 (which was already expired).

Wondering why all of those exceptions are required

```
[keyfile]
unmanaged-devices=*,except:type:wifi,except:type:gsm,except:type:cdma,except:type:ethernet
```

When it's just ethernet that's being difficult?

It doesn't, if you only need ethernet you can just use:

[keyfile]
unmanaged-devices=*,except:type:ethernet
