Everytime our politicians talk about anything, including Grant with inflation, they start off by rattling off the figures for other countries. Inflation in Australia is...., inflation in the UK is....., inflation in.... Then they imply it's not so bad in NZ as it's only 7.3% as opposed to 7.4% somewhere else so we really should be congratulating them and be more grateful instead of complaining.

Since I live in New Zealand and not somewhere else it doesn't matter a monkeys. The fact is that inflation is 7.3% and that's way more than 0%. With increased wages over the years and better management our economic position should have gotten better and we should have had deflation by now where living has gotten cheaper.

How have we gone from a minimum wage of $13.50 in 2012 to a minimum wage of $21.20 in 2022 and everyone is skint? $5.45 of this $7.70 increase has been on Labour's watch.

The argument that 'everyone is going backwards so we shouldn't worry that we are too' just cements my view that the only way Labour can artificially elevate themselves is to knock all those around them down.

Inflation in other countries may be marginally higher but their standard of living started off a lot higher than ours so they're more able to weather the storm. When we've already got a large proportion of people living below the breadline as the breadline moves ever higher it's never going to end well.

Let them eat cake?

Talk of a "windfall tax" are just spiteful versions of Labour's Michael Cullen hatred of "rich pricks" who were successful and likely created jobs for other people.

If the Reserve Bank and the government were genuinely of a mind to get inflation under control they could do so by rebalancing the size of bloated government spending as a proportion of the ever-diminishing private sector. They could even throw in large tax cuts to ease the pain. But if we are ever to recover our prosperity as a nation, then the waste that is welfare in many different forms, and the vanity projects, have to stop.

Proper measures, long-term planning, no chance. We're doomed I say, doomed.
This government is incapable of thinking past the weekend and in some cases the next free morning tea.
A friend ,& family, who is a very good maths teacher, heading off to Australia in a couple of weeks.
We are becoming a nation of losers, thanks robbo, oh & cindy & angry &, &, &.

State takeover of private land accelerates - Statement by Groundswell NZ
Anyone that owns, leases, or manages property or land in New Zealand, both urban and rural, should be very concerned about the latest developments on the West Coast. That is the message from Groundswell NZ, after over 1500 West Coast property owners received letters in the mail, out of the blue, stating that their properties had been zoned for takeover by state control and that restrictions would take immediate legal effect. There was no consultation with affected property owners and no compensation for loss of use or drop in property value. Property owners have been left in a state of shock and angry at the lack of respect and fair process.
This takeover of private land came about after the four West Coast councils released a combined district plan last week, called Te Tai o Poutini. The zonings include sites of significance to Maori, historic areas, outstanding natural landscapes, and significant natural areas (SNAs). Both urban and rural residents are impacted.
In taking this draconian action, the councils have now turned anything that has cultural, historic, or natural value into a liability. Would you want any of these features on your property if it would make you vulnerable to losing the use of your land and the resulting drop in the value of your property?
This state takeover of private land is accelerating throughout New Zealand, as local councils are being forced by Government directive to enforce unworkable regulations. The raft of ill-conceived regulations coming out of Wellington is causing considerable stress and anxiety for the thousands of people caught up by the legislation. This is the main reason Groundswell NZ started campaigning.
Groundswell NZ are calling for the West Coast councils to immediately withdraw the Te Tai o Poutini plan and to support their communities in lobbying the Government for workable legislation that focuses on achieving positive environmental outcomes, while working with and respecting the rights of people and communities.

I'm definately no economist, but I thought the OCR should have been kept at the same level or slowly increasing a few years back to cool things off a bit, not still lowering it through 2020. The crazy asset price increases over 20 and 21 might have been held back a bit.

Of course printing money for people to stay at home and keep businesses afloat didn't help at all either
