For people who don't have sky TV or not listening to the rugby on the radio can people not mention the rugby as people might be watching the delayed coverage on Prime at 7.30am.

LabTested • 4 years ago

Rugby !! Who is playing?

I am seriously out of touch. Its Saturday night and the place a couple valleys over has been having their... all the meat you can eat .. for $16 night. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

I managed a couple of plates of the best smoked meats you can imagine. During this time there was a dog who quietly lay under our table. She regularly tapped my leg to remind me she was there.

So of course I had to go fetch a few more plates of meat to feed to the dog. Those people didn't make any profit from me. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Anyway. Rugby. Who is playing and what's the score?

Actually dont tell the score..

ABs vs Pumas in Buenos Aires. All over, but mum's the word.

I would have never known. Another case of you heard it here first at WO.

From Fox News - coming to a town near you.
Interesting article - here’s some of it:

From sanctuary cities to brutally high taxes, California is the undisputed center of gravity for today’s far-left. If you want to see how liberal policies would look on a national level, you don’t have to imagine it. You can just look at the thousands fleeing the once-great state.

In the latest chapter of California’s descent into liberal madness, the city of Berkeley – a hotbed of radical liberalism – became the first city in America to ban natural gas from new homes and businesses, including restaurants that use natural gas for stoves.

Environmentalists are reportedly hailing this development as a major victory, and it might not be an isolated incident. More than 50 other cities in California are considering following Berkeley’s lead.
While it’s unsurprising that Berkeley – a city that’s already banned plastic straws – would ban natural gas, that’s little consolation to the citizens who have not yet fled.

The logic behind the Berkeley ban seems to be this: we can help the planet and reduce carbon emissions by eliminating natural gas and switching to electric heating and cooking. This is completely warped: the electric grid is powered predominantly by fossil fuels. The state prides itself on having very little coal, but it imports electricity from neighboring states like Utah and Arizona where it is generated by coal. Somehow displacing the emissions from California to another state, and charging the taxpayers more, fulfills the criteria for being "green."

An insight into NZ Green Party thinking with a complicit Labour Party tagging along. Heaven help us if the nutjobs get back 2020.

Brian Dingwall • 4 years ago

Quite.

A long way from natural gas in Ca, but we have the same disease here.

Some Governments would nuture and support agriculture, our most important industry, ensuring we maintain our comparative advantage with respect to other countries. Ditto mining, ditto exploring for gas, oil, condensates.

Even Green governments, noting our environmental advantages over other countries, would do their best to encourage that industry to increase its productivity to the advantage of NZ and the whole planet.

This Government, however, prefers to burden it with compliance taxes, the ETS, and manifold costs not shared by our international competitors.
And discourage it from increasing its production......

The attitude seems to be we've done our bit, NZ emissions will go down, globally they'll track up, nevermind, we're Ok jack.

Some would ask what they did with their brains.......?

The old saying while lining up they thought they said Trains and missed theirs.

Sir Cullen's Sidekick • 4 years ago

Unfortunately yes xbolt. It will be a Labour-Green government for sure in 2023. Even God wishes, he cannot change it. So get used to this nightmare scenario.

On top of that they have banned 40 "gender specific" words with gender neutral words to be more inclusive. That means "manpower'' will become "human effort'' or "workforce,'' while masculine and feminine pronouns like "she,'' "her,'' "he'' and "him'' will be replaced by "they'' and "them.'' A manhole is now a "maintenance hole'' instead!!

KatB • 4 years ago

I'm not happy with "human effort" being an approved phrase. The word human, still has man in it. Not acceptable!!

who'stoblame • 4 years ago

Please don't give them ideas

WIC • 4 years ago

Also we have Woman. Now what happens?

KatB • 4 years ago

Yip, that's got to go too. And person as well. And Manifesto, manifold, manipulate, manners, mangle, to name a few. The list will be very unmanageable, whoops can't have that word either.

Second time around • 4 years ago

The irony is that women are often physically better suited to going down manholes than men, who tend to be too large to pass comfortably.

xbolt • 4 years ago

I really do believe the Police are getting worried with the Confiscation Circus results so far. Yet another "what a success feel good" article on Newshub this am with gems like,

"Police hope firearm owners who have had a positive experience with the buyback scheme will spread the word to others. He said having a barbeque cranking and hot drinks on offer helped."

To get the required number of banned guns they need 2,600 (approx) per days events. They'd be lucky to have that many after a week and the number goes up exponentially per day they don't get their total.

Davo42 • 4 years ago

How long until they are forced to use the "big stick" method to get the numbers up? It will be hand in your guns or else soon enough........

xbolt • 4 years ago

Nash & Ardern squealing they will be breaking the Law already but once all the Registered ex E-Cats (15,000) are in they are in the dark. Remembering Police estimated 300,000 now banned A-Cat Semi-auto's alone and on the numbers get a projected 60 - 100,000 guns that is a lot of doors to kick in. And in an election year. My thinking is more threats and an extended Amnesty. The Ship of Fools are too worried about votes as Simon's Mob will be too.

Pete • 4 years ago

Minister Nash and Prime Minister Ardern trampled on and abused democratic process to pass the legislation. Act in haste repent at leisure, an old expression, comes to mind.

Hammering otherwise law abiding New Zealanders with the force of law in these circumstances will not be easily accepted.

Saggy • 4 years ago

When you purchase from a store they record your details, and I think they're obliged to keep the records for five years. Happy to be corrected. So these folk will be on the radar too.

Spiker • 4 years ago

That's correct. I hope dealers are erasing transactions from 5 years ago on a daily basis.

Liz Pennell • 4 years ago

Well I can see that a 'BBQ cranked up and some hot drinks' would be the decider for most gun owners. How stupid are they in the organisation for collection, for God's sake? BBQ and hot drinks? Makes me feel ill with worry if this is the mentality of them. If I had a gun that is the last thing I would be thinking about. I think I could afford my own BBQ and hot drink, definitely not needing to hand my gun in for

xbolt • 4 years ago

With a complicit Police HQ writing the Legislation as well it is downright scary to be honest also remembering the Police Arsenal has also just had a large influx of new weaponry (most lilkely due to increased numbers) but it does beg the question as to timing.

Spiker • 4 years ago

When I went in of Friday the last thing I wanted to do was eat.

Ben Waimata • 4 years ago

How did it go for you? My local one is scheduled for next week, not sure what I'm doing yet. The E cat I want to keep is staying in the safe until last minute as I'll be applying for pest control exemption, but I've got a couple of useless POS firearms I was going to get rid of anyway, I'm torn between taking the money (always short for me!) now, and doing the one finger salute to the whole concept by not attending.

Spiker • 4 years ago

The process itself was easy enough. The cops were going all out to be nice and friendly. I only took a box of Bren mags to suss it all out. My main lot they will come and pick up later on.

Ben Waimata • 4 years ago

Is there any issue with taking some now, some later? At one time they were saying it was all or nothing.

Spiker • 4 years ago

Nope. They said come in as often as you like if you find other stuff later. I didn't register online before hand either. The other thing they said there's no limit on the number of mags they will take. There was rumours that they would not pay over a set number of mags due to Nash making comments about not rewarding hoarders. Cop I delt with said if I rocked up with a pellet full they would pay for them all. I'm thinking of going back this morning with some ex army Styer mags to see what the reaction is.

xbolt • 4 years ago

Keep us informed please Spiker. Hokitika yesterday, I'm looking forward to this afternoon at the local club for comments/reactions. Will post tonight.

Spiker • 4 years ago

Will do. I feel kind of bad not holding out but I figure I'm in the group that has no option being a former E cat person who did the right thing & registered the lot.

xbolt • 4 years ago

Ditto, still weighing up options but new P and can't shoot them. Yeah/Na. A pump action AR platform in .308 is looking mighty appealing given the ammo I've got stored away.

Spiker • 4 years ago

The only reason I'd apply for an unobtainium P would be as a place holder for my main competition service rife in case of a competition exemption is negotiated later on down the track. On order for a Troy PAR 223 & will get the 308 later on.

xbolt • 4 years ago

I'm not too familiar with the AR platform/s so will pick your brains at some point no doubt.

Craig M. • 4 years ago

Don't feel bad Spiker, you are going through enough already. Even though you could have waited as long as possible, you are at least giving honest valuable information at what is happening at these events. There are a so many people out there (mainly on Facebook) who are just not getting any answers (i.e magazine numbers paid for that are handed in).

Nutta • 4 years ago

Did you feel safe there with all the gang members/criminals handing in their illegal firearms at the same time?

Spiker • 4 years ago

The only gang there was wearing blue uniforms.

SouthernSheepMan • 4 years ago

And provide their own meat for the BBQ

Gasaxe • 4 years ago

I guess they won't be offering any onions...safety first.

deja vu • 4 years ago

They obviously haven't thought of adding a bouncy castle. That would do the trick.

Salami Warning • 4 years ago

One bloke told me that he was unaffected by the "buy back" because he had an E Cat license. Good on him but good luck too!

Spiker • 4 years ago

He's in for a rude surprise. Some peoples ignorance is astounding.

Salami Warning • 4 years ago

I will pass on the advice.

shoehorn • 4 years ago

talking to a gun dealer...

did you know, the dealers do not get compensation for having banned guns?
They are resort to giving it to private owners (or selling for $1) who will then collect the conpensation, (and give money to dealer but keep $100 for his trouble)

but also..most owners have no intention of surrender their guns...

Spiker • 4 years ago

They're in a tough spot. Even supplying friends to hand in on behalf is illegal. Most will be taking a class action I would expect.

Ferris Bueller • 4 years ago

Newstalk ZB described the day as "family friendly". Right up there with a Wiggles concert or half an hour in the ball pit at Chipmonks.

Nutta • 4 years ago

Is a family friendly day appropriate for an event where potential murdering gun owning future criminals are forced by a totalitarian government to accumulate dozens of heinous tools of death in a single location?

Gasaxe • 4 years ago

Checked a new-shub article today, as the heading picture looked a bit sus...it looked like more firearms than we have collected in total in one place...I figured it must be a picture from overseas?
Watched the video inside the article to try and spot the context for the heading pic....nope, not in the video, only close ups of the small crate from the very first *event*....why do I feel I'm being lied to?

shoehorn • 4 years ago

".why do I feel I'm being lied to?"

with this govt.....i know they are lies!

Craig M. • 4 years ago

I've said it before, and i'll keep saying it:
The numbers just don't add up. When the police have been questioned by the public as to what amount has been surrendered, they refer the people the the Medias numbers.

Why do they need to do that? They are the ones that must keep the correct talley, not the media. And the media are presenting different numbers. So the media and or police are lying about this. Hopefully COLFO's legal action can bring this to light.

xbolt • 4 years ago

Headline from Breitbart News this am.
Australia has no intention of stopping the deportation of convicted Kiwi criminals to their homeland, despite a personal plea from New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for the practice to end.
