It puts me in mind of the old expression "when you lie with dogs you get fleas"
Crikey it looks a bit shonky for what is self acclaimed as "the Most Honest and Open Gummint Eva"

This reeks to high heaven and Ardern appears to be donkey deep in it.
No wonder she has left the country but she must realise this will not go away.
This mamby pamby view of criminals and going easy on crime and the new fangled fairness (?) budget being dictated by this government is going to bite us and them in the backside

Pam • 5 years ago

Has she left for Davos? I haven't seen any mention. Did she wave bye bye? Did she go commercial or Air Force? Has she simply disappeared? Any family gone with her?

Sun Tzu Fu • 5 years ago

"Arms Length", Is that new Leftie Speak for, "arms around hugging and cuddling crims". Better check up that one with Kelvin, Yeah Right.

pak • 5 years ago

Statement sent out Thursday the hanger on/baby staying home. G. Robertson will be her plus one at Davos. Also posted on Facebook Friday showing a couple of briefcases with comment "tidying a few things away tonight before I head off for Europe tomorrow". She is such a poseur. Was probably sitting there in her slippers and realised time for another virtue signal to be sent out to her adoring country men and women, or as she would say it "woman"..

(Attention Mod- Legal perusal required)

If you look at the historical makeup of the Activist movement in New Zealand you basically find a bunch of hard knocking Ferals, except this bunch has an Agenda.
Scratch the surface and you find our PM was politically associating or rubbing shoulders with these activists types over a long period of time, then dial in her partner, he has been on the fringe of the Party - Playboy - TV media Set for some time, a group of rough and ready opportunists that seem to intermingle with the recreational drug user group of that locale, so that it is difficult to distinguish who is in and who is not. Let us not forget that there is precedent, Helen Clark's little gaggle of active supporters, political activists and recreational Chardonnay imbibers, hung out in the greater Ponsonby/GreyLynn area, particularly in the early days, having all the appearances of much the same crowd, as detailed in Hallett's book, "New Zealand a Blackmailers Guide". With that historical background and political grouping, is it any wonder that a candidate that has canvased on the very active Youth Conference Scene would have made contact with persons that have the background of a Swney or a Stoubeck. And just as logical that in times of trouble such Ferals would reach out to the only person possessing such power as could possibly save them, and reach out by any means available.

In our Court of Law a prosecutor would rightly argue that if it "Looks like a duck", and "Quacks like a duck", then the measure of "Reasonable Probability" has been satisfied, and we can assume, "It is a Duck", unless evidence emerges to show otherwise. Our PM is an MP derived from a youth activist background, I think we can assume these Feral lowlifes did take the opportunity to have had contact.
The issue is not that contact was made, but that a first name relationship was there.
This matter did not then or subsequently go down formal authorized channels, no, the written email evidence suggests the persons had a sufficiently familiar relationship that the matter was handled by some discreet calls, Captains Calls, a personal influence was extended, and by definition, the Office of PM was applied.
This brings us to consider, since the Ponsonby/Greylynn Party-Playboy TV media scene is not so very large, it would be reasonable to think that Stoubeck and the PM's partner were present on the same scene, how probable they were acquainted, Dont all connected Playboys have such acquaintances. So was the familiarity based on a deeper connection with the Partner. Have the Police looked into a supply connection. That question certainly needs to be eliminated.

What we Voters have to decide is, does the evidence point to the extension of personal influence by the PM as a "Reasonable Probability".

Politics in not an exacting science, we dont have to rely on the absolute proof of "beyond all doubt", if our Nations Administration is compromised to the extent of unrightly favoring an illegal immigrant who knowingly imports 5kg of death and agony intended for distribution to our youth, Yes then influence peddled at the highest level can be tested by the Voting Public on the basis of "Reasonable Probability".

So what, People, is your judgement.

My judgement is very plainly to observe, "Too stupid for words", Clark would have had a minion earn a brownie point and do it for her, not this one, "Gullible" comes to mind. Pictures of Baby on the cover of the magazines fade when you consider that Here lies the potential for the Top Office to be aiding and abetting a conscienceless peddler of death and agony to our youth, to have the opportunity to reside here among our children and very likely do it all over again. That favor influenced by our Top Office. Probable?? If it looks like a smoking gun.

Is this the integrity we want of our Leadership,
"Probability is High", too high to allow our Nation to be Led by one with so little acumen and so little conscience.
No whitewash wanted here, this matter is already judged in the court of public opinion, what is needed now is an Independent Commission with full Police Co-operation and we need an Independent Commissioner, one outside of politics or the UN. someone Internationally esteemed in law and of unassailable integrity.
The stature of our Prime Ministerial Office demands no less.

anniem • 5 years ago

What an excellent piece of writing. No more need be said except it is high time someone joined the dots over the PM's partner. Good to see that I am not the only one smelling fish. Keep up the good work.

No matter what authority is devoted to this..let's hope the digging continues...

Pam • 5 years ago

Do you think it is possible that these dodgy people are being entertained in our Government House and on our dime?

XCIA • 5 years ago

Alex Swney is a calculating fraudster and there is no real justice in this country. This mongrel stole more than $2.5M of public money and in addition owed the tax department a further $2M for tax fraud. He was sentenced to 5 years 7 months, but helping with yoga and literacy classes saw him released 3 years 6 months early. Did he pull the wool over the parole board, or did someone higher up the food chain pull rank on the parole board?

Something is very rotten in this whole saga and it on the governments watch, and side of the house.

But but but, she is now going to Europe to talk about "well being" - what deals is she going to do while away, moreover, what captain's calls will she make.... even moreso, how much more of NZ is she going to sell down the road? Maybe these questions should be directed at the charlatan shyster Peters.

Mick Ie • 5 years ago

I can hear her speech in my mind.

“Key aura
My name is Jacinda Ardern and I am the Capdin of New Zeelund.
To day I wanna talk to all of you about my “well being” budget.
Well, being udderly useless and not knowing about GDP, GST and some other maths stuff I don’t wanna learn, Michael Cullen has decided we’re just gunna put up the taxes of less people so we can give more money to our voters who think they need it more.
Thanks for listening.
Key-a car-ha”

Seachange • 5 years ago

Now that Swney has mentioned emailing the PM, does that mean that an OIA request for said email and responses can be reqested?

shoehorn • 5 years ago

"giving him another chance"

so how many law abiding people, who had jobs and contributing to NZ were deported.
were they giving a second chance...or was it "deep down they really bad people"?

I guess all criminals "deep down" are really a nice people.
why Labour wants to set them all free......?

Malcolm • 5 years ago

Have all those people who have or may in the future lost or lose their jobs courtesy of Jacinda Ardern's captains call on banning future Oil and Gas exploration going to be "given another chance'?

kehua • 5 years ago

Birds of a feather, always will be built into Left Wing DNA never has been as obvious in NZ as Australia but Labour and it`s affiliates have long had dodgy acquaintances.

I am looking forward to the new Nicky Hager book on Scroubeks Sweny and Arderns dealings exposed for all to read.

Mick Ie • 5 years ago

How about Ian Wishart? Isn’t he an investigative journalist and doesn’t he write books actually based on genuine investigations and real facts?

Jane • 5 years ago

He will not do that - he so far to left he may fall off the edge.

jonno1 • 5 years ago

He would regain a lot of credibility if he did just that. Not holding my breath.

Waydownsouth • 5 years ago

Really ILG had a very tough decision to make over Sroubek. He either had to do the right thing or do what "Team Jacinda" wanted.

Barnacles2 • 5 years ago

I am trying to recall if there was a similar 'scandal' for John Key to deal with. The only thing that pops into my recollection was the appointment of a school friends brother to a GCSB role.

I was looking to compare the media reporting to National and Labour. Again, my recall was the constant hounding by the media, digging into Key's history and the man appointed to the role. Questions in the house, and by the media directly. Compare that to Hanley and the failed CTO appointment, and the level of coverage and intrusive reporting. Then this blatant obfuscation and bordering corruption immigaration debacle comes to light and the media can't run away fast enough. If this was Key's government, they would be camped outside his house (here and Hawaii) looking for any comment to trip him up.

The media have failed in their primary job, and as a result the vacuum they have left gives opportunity for implication and conjecture to be raised, with all the corresponding 'reading between the lines' to occur. Until the media do their job, this will continue.

Jane • 5 years ago

A major difference between Ardern and Key is that Key and his parliamentary colleagues were elected - Ardern and her motley crew were annointed by Winnie.

rantykiwi • 5 years ago

Random impertinent question. Was Swney a client of Sroubek's?

rantykiwi • 5 years ago

Jacinda is more corrupt than even Winston. She needs to go.

NZDirect • 5 years ago

I understand that one word comments are not favoured however there is only one word for the current NZ PM and this issue - “Corruption”

It is now synonymous with her name.

Crooked Cindy

Wibble • 5 years ago

Is there any criminal in this country that isn't a friend of our prime minister?

Frank N Furter • 5 years ago

Is her phone number scratched onto the toilet walls in the jails?

Wibble • 5 years ago

Funny you should say that, I just made a cartoon of that.

Smoke & Mirrors • 5 years ago

Swney and Cindy actually have a lot in common.. Swney helps himself to taxpayer's & ratepayer's money without ever feeling the need to account for it.

So does she.

MrHippo • 5 years ago

Wasn’t this chap also the promoter of the Skypath (cycle track across the Auckland Harbour Bridge) that sucked up millions in rate and taxpayer dollars before being taken over by the NZTA?

Win • 5 years ago

The close familial relationship between the PM and Swney goes a long way to explaining why a small group of Auckland cycling lobbyists, which Swney was heavily involved with, have so much influence on this COL's car hating transport policies. This is quite a story and needs focused media and political exposure.

Guest • 5 years ago
Sally • 5 years ago

I would say she definitely knew that bit of information. Her cousin married a Swney whose family also came from Morrinsville.
However that is beside the point being made - a convicted criminal has the PM's number and can text and email her with no uproar from the media but when Cam did it was headline news for weeks.
Double standards.

Mighty1 • 5 years ago

NZTA will never approve attaching Skypath to the bridge. It will never happe. Politically NZTA won’t outwardly say it but when the occupation licence is asked for it will be refused likely on engineering grounds. NZTA hoping the Skypath gets dumped before they have to say no.
