I guess the alternative is they don't suffer pollution and the herbivores get fed to the carnivores, and the carnivores get turned into pelts, when the zoo goes bankrupt.
The alternative is they get sent to sanctuaries, where they can live their lives peacefully without being the object of our entertainment.

So Gov. Brown is promoting public health by not letting people walk through Zoo Lights, where they might have burned some calories, and now instead they are spewing CO2 into the air. I thought we were trying to fight global warming! And what about "equity"? Now those without cars can't participate (unless they can hitch a ride). Normally, public transit is all one needs to get to the zoo.
The pollution from the vehicles will be terrible for the animals. Already the recent construction has resulted in the deaths of both the tiger and the leopard and possibly the source of cancer for some of the primates.
Once again the management of the Oregon Zoo, and by extension Metro, demonstrate money as their priority rather than the well-being of all.
I'll wait in traffic to keep the zoo open, if that's what it takes.

Great, so now in addition to the light pollution and the noise pollution the zoo animals are subjected to during the winter months, they have to deal with the air pollution from the gas & diesel fumes too?
