Thank you!
Do you use standard ubuntu font rendering or infinality?
It's the default Ubuntu font rendering in the screenshots.
Just a few days back i'm searched the web for something similar and found nothing. Thanks for saving the time of our lifes with this amazing tool!
very neat :) will it also work in ~/bin if I have that in my $PATH?
Sure. Or you can enter the full path to the script in the keyboard shortcut configuration.
Yay new content!
And it's great!
Thank you!
g8 post, thank you !
Hmm, i have problems with qnapi working selected files, can i adjust this solution here to work with qnapi?
Yes, I prefer YAD in most situations but here I didn't want to use YAD because it's not available in the official repositories and I basically wanted the scripts in the article to be used as examples, and extended by the readers :)
Welcome back, we've missed you
Am analizat mai intii comenzile, functioneaza in Debian, multumesc, te urmaresc de cind foloseam Ubuntu, esti unul dintre cei ce ma inspira.
cool.
This is not working for me but I can read this:
"Google Translate API is a paid service. For website translations, we encourage you to use the Google Website Translator gadget."
https://cloud.google.com/tr...
Somebody knows how get this service for didactical purpose?
It still works for me. Maybe you abused it a bit and that's why it stopped working? Anyway, I guess you can use some other service instead of Google, but I for one don't find any of them as reliable as Google.
Hmmm maybe, yes; I will try again, six days after BUT I have the same IP. I wish learn, THANKS!
Yes, it works! Thanks again!

THANKS! Is it possible to create new function like define a word for complicated english word?
How to disable "Original Text"?
chmod +x ~/notitrans
chmod: cannot access '/home/arshad/notitrans': No such file or directory
what can i do now? @ andrew
Hello!
There is also the useful Google-Chrome/Chromium's extension using Google Translate: "Translate Selected Text" https://chrome.google.com/w...
I use it each day for several years.
Sadly, it doesn't work very well in some Chromium derivatives.
my desired language not in it. sorry.
@arshad
what is your language?
bengali.
Strange! Bengali exists in Google Translate and "translate selected text" is based on Google Translate ...
look here.
Yes, I have seen... Perhaps try to ask the developer?
I have just reported the issue on the extension page
Otherwise, there is Google Translate extension. It does the job well too!
অন্যথা, সেখানে Google Translate এক্সটেনশান. তিনি ভাল খুব কাজ করে! :)
https://chrome.google.com/w...
Thanks!
The above method with Gtranslate doesn't work anymore
Using translate shell make everything easier:
https://www.soimort.org/tra...
#!/usr/bin/env bash
SEL=$(xsel -o)
T="$(/home/fra/bin/trans :it -b "$SEL")"
# notify-send "$T"
zenity --info --title="Translation" --text="$T"
Interesting this program called 'trans', but for me in Ubuntu 18.04, did not work 100% but it worked
coming from a windows environment I was looking for something that is similar to qtranslate , this is the closest I have come to but it doesn't pronounce words ?
Hello this looks very nice
can you make kde version of it ?
great! great! thanks so much!!
I have a problem with this script: whichever version I use, notify-send or zenity, it cannot display more than 6-7 lines of translated text. If I mark a larger portion it either shows the first 2-3 lines of the translation or no translated text at all. Is there a solution for this?
Helpful, thanks!
Very good.
If you want not to show the origin language reference after the translation, you can change the part "{print $2, $6}" for "{print $2}"
Thank You for good sample!
I use with changes
#!/usr/bin/env bash
xsel -o | python3 -c "import sys,urllib.request,json; r = json.loads(urllib.request.urlopen(urllib.request.Request('http://translate.googleapis... + urllib.parse.quote(sys.stdin.read().replace('\n',' ')), None, { 'User-Agent' : 'Mozilla/5.0' })).read().decode('utf-8')); [print(t[0], end='') for t in r[0]]; print('\n--==<<>>==--'); [print(t[1], end='') for t in r[0]];" | zenity --text-info --width=500 --height=500 --title="Translation"
Andrey,
I have one question about your code typed above: It functions for long parts of text, like 3 or 4 paragraphs?
Your code don't work here in my computer, it opens only a blank screen without text. Could you send me a correct copy it in a text editor set up for translate english to portuguese language?
My e-mail address is ricardom.cme@gmail.com
best wishes!
very useful thanks a lot
If I select multiple sentences, the entire translation is not displayed.
How to not display the original (selected text) in the translation window or increase the text field for translated text?
dude, very thanks!
Works like a charm! Thank you!
"autodetect language" is possible? now I am using two script with two differents hotkeys (eng to ita and ita to eng)... The ideal (for me) would be like in qtranslator. I have seting to have with a single hotkey: if text ISN'T in italian, translate to italian, if text is in italian, tranlate in english. thank you
nice! thx
I have a problem, it detects german as english so it doesnt translate it at all, so I had to change from sl=auto to sl=de. I pretty much only translate german, so its fine. But it should function in auto
