"Such denunciations will have some readers cheering, but they will also fuel the narrative that has arisen in conservative circles and in much of the right-leaning media in the run-up to A Higher Loyalty's publication. In this view, Comey is an ego-driven false martyr, not only bitter and vengeful but downright corrupt — a sellout to the Democrats who have refused to accept their loss or Trump's triumph in 2016"

And what, if anything, has the media done to investigate the veracity of these claims? Media: "So-and-so says this, but conservative-leaning media says this, so there you are...See? Journalism!"
NO, IT ISN'T!!!

"He admits that he did it in part to dispel rumors, including within the FBI, that he was suppressing new evidence. He thought he needed to do it to prevent any cloud over Clinton's widely expected victory on Election Day."

So Comey admits he did it in part to dispel rumors - to influence the perception of how the investigation was being handled... His error was in his desire to control perception of the investigation, which allowed him to inject his bias into the election and rob the public of their ability to make an objective decision... Instead, Comey should have been controlling the reality of the investigation to make sure that it was being done properly and fairly in reality... and let the public be the judge - not Comey.

Even if Trump didn't win, Comey's efforts to try and control the perception would still not be appropriate.

What a surprise. An incompetent FBI chief--look at how he "handled" the Clinton email announcements during the election--is so bitter over being fired that he invents an "obstruction of justice" conversation, and then is so spineless that he has a "friend" leak it because he's too afraid to...

Now again attacks and covers his posterior in his new "exposé".

COMEY 2020!

It is sickening to hear " liberal " Democrats slobbering over the FBI , the sinister UNELECTED shadow government of the United States.
I would just laugh if Trump fired ALL of them . And I vote SOCIALIST .

tkent26 • 6 years ago

Yeah, we don't believe that you are a socialist for one second, whether or not you type it in ALL CAPS.

The FBI is the only government agency trying to hold any accountability to the Trump crime syndicate.

The elected bodies (Republicans in House & Senate) have abdicated their Constitutional responsibilities, and are protecting a criminally corrupt president from prosecution.

I am sure the FBI believes that I am a true SOCIALIST . I was a presidential elector for the Socialist Workers Party in Rhode Island in the very same year (1976 )that Bernie Sanders was an SWP presidential elector in Vermont.
Presently I am leaning towards a form of " Christian Socialism " - just as militant- but with a broader appeal to millions of Christian working class people. It is anti-Zionist but not anti-Semitic. It affirms modern science as does the Catholic Church.

The FBI is a big, dangerous dog--"communists" found that out in the 1950s; civil rights workers and war protestors in the '60s and '70s; and Randy Weaver and David Koresh in the 1990s.

First Clinton and now Trump found out what happens when you give the FBI's leash too much slack. I worry the rest of us of us will find out soon enough.

The American ruling class decided many years ago that they needed an " imperial president ", a Bully- in- Chief, to defend THEIR law and order inside the USA and abroad in the so called " free world ".
Unlike a mob boss THE PRESIDENT has control over drone missiles instead of vulgar unwashed hit men. He has the nukes and the troops, the ships and the tanks.
There is clearly a war within the American ruling class while they are like minded in their hostility to Russia and Vladimir Putin.
Why is not post-communist CAPITALIST Russia not included in the " free world " ? Their oligarchy is not as democratic as our plutocracy ? Their Gulag prison system is not as nice as our American Gulag ?
Will young Americans soon be making the world safe for " democracy " as they did in 1917 ? How moving . ( that Wilsonian blather ! ).

There's not much hope for you if you don't understand basic differences between the US (democracy at least in name, with free-ish elections a free press) and Russia - authoritarian state, no free elections, no free press.

Ron Ruggieri • 6 years ago

Post-communist Russia is now a CAPITALIST country. Where in the world does greedy, belligerent capitalism establish a perfect " democracy " that respects the popular thirst for social justice ?
The American plutocracy has no intention of losing ANY presidential election. It is hardly a cut above Russia's oligarchy in political morality.

Does he mention in his memoir why he helped get Trump elected?

downtown21 • 6 years ago

Because he'd lost control of his department, his agents were in open rebellion.

He had no choice but to announce that BS "reopening of the investigation" right before the election because if he didn't, the FBI's New York office was going to leak it anyway. They already had leaked it to Rudy Giuliani.

Class A • 6 years ago

Re: "Because he'd lost control of his department" Sounds like a total failure of his leadership in the FBI...and "It wasn't my fault!" wingeing.

Re: "He had no choice..." Ah, playing the victim card. He was Director of the FBI, not some hostage gagged and bound in a secret basement. Of course he had a choice.

Yup, and many old school conservatives now wonder what has become of their party. Not much point in winning and holding power if one doesn't know what they stand for anymore. Power for power's sake is fleeting.

downtown21 • 6 years ago

They stand against safe and legal abortions and for striking down any law that makes LGBT people a protected class.

And nothing else.

Their idiot voters stupidly believe this is all the Supreme Court does. Meanwhile, it’s destroying labor unions and stacking the deck further in favor of employers, bringing economic misery on these morons.

"Not much point in winning and holding power if one doesn't know what they stand for anymore."

"Power for power's sake is fleeting."

No, wrong on both counts. Unless you don't mind being stabbed in the back when you turn it.
