Deuteronomy 8:17-18
You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”
But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

In chapter 8 of Deuteronomy, Moses is reminding the people of Israel that it is God who has provided for their needs such as manna from heaven to feed them, clothes that did not wear out for 40 years, and shoes that keep their feet safe while they were wandering in the wilderness.
In verses 6-20, Moses tells them that not only has God provided for their needs but that He was also going to give them more blessings by giving them the good land of Canaan, described in vs. 7-9. Moses was concerned that prosperity may lead to them forgetting just who was responsible for their wealth and in turn lead them down the path of disobedience to God.

Well this is so applicable for us today, isn’t it? When God blesses His children with money, we are always to remember where that money comes from and who that money belongs to, it is God’s not ours! I don’t care how much money we do or do not have, every dollar is God’s. We are to be good stewards of the money He has entrusted to us. We are to pray for wisdom on where we are to give His money, and what we are to buy with it. If we fail to do this, just as Moses warned his people, we may become self-reliant and feel we no longer need God, which leads to a life of disobedience and sinful practices. Every single blessing we have is from the hand of God, we did nothing to deserve it, it is all His love, mercy, and grace displayed to us!

Philippians 4:12-13
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or want. I can do all this through Christ who gives me strength.”

Father God, thank You for always meeting my needs and for the blessings You have given me in this life. But most of all Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die for my sins on the cross at Calvary. The pleasures of this life are nothing compared to eternity with You! I love You so Abba and pray that You give me wisdom in all that I do and say, for Your glory, Amen!

Amen Sister Mary. All wealth comes from God, it belongs to God, and we are to honor God with our tithes and offering.

When we realize that wealth is from God’s blessings, we pray and ask God for wisdom on how to manage our wealth Biblically, by honoring God with all we do and all He has to bless us with.

I have prayed for understanding on this “… we are to honor God with our tithes and offering.” Can you explain a bit further? Is it specifically in the Bible that designates a percentage of income a person should give?

Yes, Brian., I did some research: I came across these versus.:

Malachi chapter 3, verse 10. “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.”.

About tithing one-tenth of your income is found in Leviticus 27:30: “‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.” The 10% requirement specifically comes from the Hebrew translation of tithe, “עשר” or “ten”.

Other passages also talked about tithing, such as the following:

Numbers 18:26: “Speak to the Levites and say to them: ‘When you receive from the Israelites the tithe I give you as your inheritance, you must present a tenth of that tithe as the Lord’s offering.”

Deuteronomy 14:22: “Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.”
2 Chronicles 31:5: “As soon as the order went out, the Israelites generously gave the first fruits of their grain, new wine, olive oil and honey and all that the fields produced.
They brought a great amount, a tithe of everything.”".

The guideline for tithing and offering today is vastly different, but aptly explained by Paul. “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your ,heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthian 9:6-7)

Truly indeed, that if we fail to acknowledge that everything we are and we have comes from the Lord, we become self reliant, our relationship with Him becomes lukewarm, and little we know we are drifting away from His presence, which leads us to self destruction. We have to understand that God bless us because He wants to. He gives, but if we're not being careful of these gifts, it is imperative to remember, He can also take it away. Blessed be the name of the Lord forevermore.

We shall remember the Lord our God, for it is He who is giving us power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to our fathers, as it is this day.  What do we have that wasn't given to us, either by God's generous grace, unexpected blessing, disciplining hardship, providential opportunity, or our good health? And when we stand before the throne of judgment, what will our claim to grace be? Our claim on grace is based only on God's generous and loving gifts that have made us pure, holy, and whole! Nothing we possess, accomplish, or buy can give us such a claim. Only God's generosity, grace, and love can bring heaven's greatest gifts to us. We thank you, dear Father, for your wonderful and extravagant blessings. All that we have, all that we are, and all that we ever hope to be exists only because of the mercy and grace you have lavished upon us. Thank you, in Jesus' name. Amen.🙌🤲🙏

“Use your Spirit to forge in me a heart like Jesus' heart.” Amen Pastor Phil, amen!
Moses is giving the last instructions to the people of Israel. It is almost done his journey, and the people of Israel are so close to get into the Promised Land. It has been a very long journey, but the people to get into it is not the same that was delivered from Egyptian slavery. The promise that God gave to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is that their descendants are going to take possession of a land flowing with milk and honey, it is time that promise to be full filled.
The people of Israel that was walking with Moses, it wasn’t faithful with God, there were people who rebelled to God so many times. But God wants to bless them and to fulfill what He promised to their forefathers.
Short time after leaving Egypt, the Lord says to Moses: “Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people." (Exodus 33:3)
Bit the Lord is faithful, what He has promised, He is going to fulfill. That is the mercy and grace of the Lord. He said: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)
Like with the people of Israel, our God does with us too. His mercy, grace and compassion are with us, His faithfulness and blessings too.
The same way that He provides for the people of Israel, He does with us, He will do too. He never change, He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)
We don’t deserve His blessings but in His great love He lesses us, and He delights in doing so. Blessings of salvation, of forgiveness, of restoration, of healing, of provision, of prosperity, of peace, of strength, of long life, of good family, of righteousness, of His grace and favor. All these blessings make us rich, we do not lack anything, we have the Good Shepherd with us, and like David said: “The Lord is my Shepherd l shall not want.” We say the same.
We need to remember that we are blessed to bless others. We cannot keep the blessing just for us, for if it is not shared, we can loose it.
It is good that at all time say thanks to the Lord. Good times, bad times lets say thank you, Lord! Thank you Lord for all the blessings, thank you!
