I have had a Virtuo line for a couple of years now. I think the coffee is fresh tasting, but week. The crema makes up for it a bit by giving it that nice mouthful, but I just can't justify using it as my everyday coffee maker. The smaller pod prices for espresso are ridiculous. I've tried making my own pods with my own high quality grounds, but it never reproduces as much crema as the original.

My go-to pot is still a Keurig and If I want really good coffee I use a Press or a Bialetti.

Just produce the lid, we can fill it ourselves. Let me know when you have the first lids available, please?
Best Regards

That patent sucks, but I do like the Vertuo line because I can make a full cup of coffee. Which is what my girlfriend likes, while I prefer a double espresso. We can get both with one machine and save space. I'll probably end up getting these foil shields to reuse the pods, and refill them with good quality coffee. It would have been nice if they could have made pods and machines compatible with their original pods. It'll be interesting to see how long the line lasts, because it reminds me of Keurig after the patent for the original K-Cups expired, and they put out the new cups that I think went nowhere.

The pod format might be patented, but that shouldn't mean it's "impossible" to produce such pods. Interesting, because I've seen this being said in several articles, but Starbucks already has Vertuo pods, although from what I can tell still only available in the US and Canada. Usually this sort of deal involves some kind of agreement, license fee, or entering into a "programme", something along those lines.

I personally regret buying a Vertuo machine, mine broke after only 4 months. I live alone and drink between 0 and 1 coffee per day, so definitely not a big drinker. So obviously I looked up the issue I was having ("capsule not recognized"), and that's when I realized I was destined to fail. Various reddit posts explaining all the design failures of the current Vertuo machines, which gets worse and worse with each generation (Vertuo, Vertuo Plus, Vertuo Next). Obviously, I have the Next, which is the least reliable of all. After a week of "repair", Nespresso sent me a brand new replacement, which I put up on FB Marketplace immediately, but even at half the retail price, and with all the warranty, unboxed condition, etc. not a SINGLE person showed interest after a week. So I'll probably just go with it and use it until this one breaks too... and ask for another replacement lol.

Maybe Nespresso has been trying to be too fancy about it, TBH I'm not even sure what they were trying to solve with Vertuo (maybe the pods were too cheap? lol), but currently it's definitely not looking bright for it. I'm really curious what the future holds, but the moment Nespresso finally accepts my request to give me an original replacement instead of this Vertuo garbage, I'll take it in a heartbeat.
