Thank you Helen for your post. That is excellent information. Indeed, when I lived and worked in the ME I knew of one Mufti like mr. Tawhidi. There was no way however he could speak out for the same reasons you mention - in the ME he wouldn't live a single day. There is zero tolerance whatsoever in Islam for any critical noises. But there are some genuine intellectuals here and there with good intentions.

The 'funny' part is that truly progressive characters like mr. Tawhidi and some I know are, in the eyes of most Muslims the actual, real extremists, and the terrorists and slaughterers are just pious Muslims, nothing radical about it in their eyes. Something the West and certainly "progressive" politicians will never understand. As usual, we got it all backwards and make all the wrong choices for all the wrong reasons.

I know Tommy well and followed him closely while in Europe. He is a very nice and decent person, a Patriot, and, indeed, he has been treated worse than anybody can imagine, and most people wouldn't believe it. Very few would have endured it without surrendering.
