There are many issues involved, some of which are being conflated and exploited by outside groups, Media and Politicians to successfully encourage violence.

In Jersey City, Brooklyn and upstate New York, for example, there is a background issue, not unique to the Jewish Community, of African American and other groups frustration with gentrification, a gentrification that is too often perceived to be pursued with extraordinary insensitivity. Where this frustration involves "Ultra Orthodox" Jews purchasing property in economically depressed areas (read African American communities) the frustration has been steered by outside influencers to express itself through acts of violence, now too often extreme. While gentrification is not the only issue driving the violence, it gives the outside agitators a point of entry through which to pit community against community in ways that are violent and blatantly antisemitic. The local politicians and community leaders should have addressed the obvious and well known frustrations long before they could be exploited by the antisemites. Instead, they put on (and continue to put on) a stupid act that diverts attention from the very things the antisemites exploit, things that could have and should have been addressed directly, privately, and peacefully long ago. This failure makes the politicians, community leaders (and Media) appear collusive in the violence. Maybe they intend to be. If not, they need to start to show some brain function and quickly.

Yes, there are plenty of issues to be addressed, but that does not excuse the behavior exhibited against the Jewish community.

My intention is not to excuse the behavior rather it is my intention to encourage the local leadership to be more proactive in addressing areas of known friction. It is also my intention to highlight the fact that outsiders along with some locals are openly exploiting local frictions for their own purposes. This is not to deny that there are also antisemitic elements encouraging violence exclusively because they are antisemitic - no other pretext needed. That too needs to be addressed and far more aggressively. Nonetheless, more effort should be, and should have been, invested by local leaders in proactively reducing, whenever and wherever possible, known sources of friction within the local communities. There should always be real local mechanisms other than violence for addressing areas of friction that arise within local communities. It should be standard practice. If these mechanisms exist, they do not seem to be working. If these mechanisms are being undermined by outsiders to the communities or undermined in or by The Media, that type of interference should be very publicly addressed with one voice by ALL members of the community.
