Just how many people with Down Syndrome do the writers of this article know. It seems in my experience of having known several that there is no strong relationship between Down Syndrome and intelligence. The looks of the person and the way they may pronounce some words, etc. may indicate that they are not just like you; but that has nothing to do with their abilities to use their brains. Unfortunately many people in the past chalked up their inability to do things the same way you or others do doesn't mean that they are not as "smart." That was in the past before we learned decades ago that these people are simply different from the rest of us. I went to a dinner last night and once the plates of food were brought to the table, I had to excuse myself, take a flexpen, and go take a shot. Okay, right, I'm diabetic. Does that hamper my intelligence and ability to have had enjoyable dinner time conversation with my tablemates? I don't think so. The same is true in this case.
