The Answer is simple.
To compete as a 'no frills carrier' you need to reduce overheads.
Getting payment weeks / months in advance gives you 'capital funding', i.e. you can spend money that you have not currently earned, based on the fact that (pre covid 19) 98% plus passengers WILL travel on the days they booked.
Making 'no frills' work via BSP will only mean that their prices will increase a lot.
Can you imagine 'Ryanair' (other carriers exist) offering a Stansted to Alicante one way for 300 quid off peak ?
