I've known vets who used full auto guns. For the most part you are right. It takes training, and a certain amount of physical strength, to make it reliable in combat. Even then, there are other simpler means to accomplish the task a full auto gun can do.

My Father used full auto rifles when he was in the Army. He and his Uncle, who also served in the Army, were the first to tell me that. They were not the last. Of those two, only my Great Uncle saw combat. He was stationed in Korea during that conflict.

The guys who could really use those full auto guns did some impressive things in Korea and Vietnam. They made good use of the tools they had on hand.
