I want to send an email to contact@the-sz.com attaching the video, but it failed...
What's the correct email?

this is the correct email address, is the video too large? can you upload it to a one-click-hoster?

I have encountered an issue with its compatibility on a 4K screen.
When I selected 1920*1080 in Carroll, it will set 1280*768 on my screen.
Does anyone have the same problem?

the sz development • 2 months ago

Can you please send me a mail? I can send you a debug version.

Hello! You have created a great utility! Good job!

Are you planning to make a 64-bit version? Carroll is indispensable in Windows PE-based OS, but it is impossible to run a 32-bit application in a 64-bit version of Windows PE. To do this, I need to integrate support for 32-bit applications (WoW64) into 64-bit Windows PE, and this is quite a serious job and in most cases not advisable.

I've an Problem with my Dual 4k Monitor Setting. Secend monitor (Monitor 1) will not change resolution if i select native resolution 3480x2160@60Hz, works perfect if i set this resulution in Windows settings. Similar problem with second user where resulution 1920x1080@60Hz works not for second monitor. Resolution ist set automatically to 1920x1440 when i switch to 1920x1080 in carroll, windows setting works as expected.
If i set my prefered resolution by hand in Carroll registry the second monitor is not touched by carroll an keeps resolution from previous user.

the sz development • 11 months ago

Try to check in the options (wrench) "Show all Resolutions with all Refresh Rates", maybe 59Hz instead of 60Hz is working. Further you can try to change the scaling mode "Default Screen Mode" to/from "Center on Screen".

Hi, nice tool! I have some questions though.

1. How can I disable one of monitors? I have monitor + tv setup and I do not need tv most of times, but Carroll always enables it on the user logon. I tried to set - disabled - as a startup option for the tv but it works only on selection and after logon it enables tv with some low resolution anyway.
2. Is there any way to start the resolution adjustment on logon earlier in the sequence? Many applications starting before adjustment and and dpi switching after application started is not handled well in most cases.

the sz development • 1 year ago

1. Unfortunately I can't reproduce this issue. Can you try Carroll.exe /OnlySet /Resolution "0x0 32 60" /OnlyMonitor x from the command line? "0x0" should indicate a disabled monitor. Set x to the number of your tv card. You can also contact me at contact@the-sz.com

2. The setup places Carroll into the user startup folder and starting "Carroll.exe /OnlySet". You could try to start it earlier by placing Carroll into one of the mentioned registry locations here: https://superuser.com/a/138... For example HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

How i can remove settings? Pls.. I cant open my windows.

the sz development • 2 years ago

What do you mean with "remove settings" and "can't open my windows"?

To open the settings window of Carroll to change the resolution, just start Carroll from the start menu.

To remove Carroll: Uninstall Carroll via Settings->App or using the start menu entry.

To change the current screen resolution, make a right click onto the desktop and select "Display Settings". However, on the next Windows start, Carroll will set the resolution back to your in Carroll selected resolution.

Jerry Schliephake • 2 years ago

Is there an easy method to set this for individual users on the computer? I'm an admin and being able to set this selectively would be great.

the sz development • 2 years ago

The settings are stored in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Compsoft\Carroll\ 32 bit DWORD:
BPP, Width, Height and Frequency. If more than one monitor is present, there are subkeys "Monitor x" and the same values again.

If you need more details, you can contact me at contact@the-sz.com

Hi, I am using 1.27 version and I would like to set which corner(edge) of display will be used for non-filling resolutions. Right now it is just upper left corner. I would like to have it at bottom. Would it be possible to do this update?

the sz development • 2 years ago

In the Carroll options dialog you can setup whether non-filling resolutions should be centered or stretched. Windows defines only these two options. See https://docs.microsoft.com/... -> dmDisplayFixedOutput
Maybe it's somehow dependent what the display driver is doing with these settings.

Yon Dough • 2 years ago

Hi Admin/Dev,
Any idea if we'll be able to use a portable version of this tool anytime soon?

Thanks,
Anon.

the sz development • 2 years ago

Currently I only provide a setup since the application must be started when the user logs in.

If you want to setup this by yourself, install once Carroll, copy Carroll.exe and uninstall Carroll. So you have the 'portable' Carroll.exe

Using Carroll 1.26 .. Seems to work well but still have a small problem.. There are 2 users on my windows 7 computers.. one (A) using 2560 x 1440 and one (B) using 1600 x 1200.. when switching from A to B, the resolution changes accordingly but the display stretchs instead of keeping 4/3 proportion.. Seems I had not that issue with 1.23 version..

the sz development • 2 years ago

Please use new version 1.27. In the options dialog you can choose between stretch and center.

Laurent Gignoux • 2 years ago

Wokks fine with this new version .. Exactly what I wished .. Very fast and efficient support .. Thanks a lot

the sz development • 2 years ago

The stretching was needed for another user. Seems I have to add an option for that... I will need 1 or 2 days...

Can you please send me a mail: contact@the-sz.com So I can send you a test version...

Hi
I have 4 monitors in a square , For work all set to 2560 px wide
This is too high a resolution for games
To play games I want to set them to lower res. say 1680 px wide and stretch to fill the screen.
screen shot attached of edit window. several resolutions are highlighted and any single one can not be selected
https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

the sz development • 3 years ago

The first resolution (2560x1600) is selected. When you press one one of the links at the bottom ("Change screen resolution...") the resolution should be changed.

BTW: Which windows version are you using?

Can you please conact me at contact@the-sz.com ?

If Carroll is used on a slower device (weak older AMD cpu) and has many displays connected with high resolutions (mix of 1440p and 4K). The startup and the selection cause the tool not to show it's gui or update it's gui for a very long time (about 30 seconds in my setup). Please make the application to show it's gui first on startup and make the getting the list of resolutions a async process so that the gui stays active and responsive. The time of not responsiveness is determined by cpu power and how long the total list of possible resolutions is. The list of possible resolutions most of the time is a lot longer on higher resolution displays.

the sz development • 3 years ago

Please use new version 1.26. This version hides even more uncommon screen resolutions.

There is still the option to show all possible resolutions.

the sz development • 3 years ago

Can you please send a mail: contact@the-sz.com

I would like to give you a debug version to see where the 30 seconds are spend.

Hi there.

Thank you for the App

I have just a problem with my Digital Monitor. Everytime when i try to set the Resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x900 i get the fallowing message "Cant get desired video mode". With the analog Monitor works everything fine.

Thanx for your help

the sz development • 3 years ago

Can you set the 1600x900 resolution by hand in WIndows successfully?

Does Carol change the resolution successfully but shows wrongly the error message?

Hi there.
I have three accounts on a windows 10 pro. 2 accounts need to be on 1080p 60Hz and 1 account on 720p 120 Hz.
For some reason the settings don't stick when I switch from account to account. Is there any specific settings (security, access control) that might be disabled and preventing Caroll from keeping the change?
Thanks for you help.

the sz development • 4 years ago

Did you click "Change screen resolution and restore with every logon for current user" in every user account?

You can check the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CompSoft\Carroll -> Frequency and Height. Every user should have these settings.

On every user account, Carroll.exe should be running in the background.

juloni • 4 years ago

Nice tool, but you should add an option for scaling/zooming. When i raise my resolution, I also need to zoom in otherwise elements suchs as icons, texts are too small

the sz development • 4 years ago

Unfortunately Microsoft did not document how to switch dpi settings. There is a hack available, but I'm not sure whether this is really stable working. Further, in case of dpi change, you must log out and log in again to update all applications. Currently I don't see a way to implement this.

DenkIn Worten • 4 years ago

hey, how can i add a specific resoultion to the list if it not available?

the sz development • 4 years ago

Carroll should display all supported resolutions. They are reported from the graphic driver. Why do you want to request a not supported resolution?
Can you please contact me at contact@the-sz.com

My OS is Win2012R2
GPU is Matrox G200e
I use Carroll 1.24 to lock screen but when set "Change screen resolution and restore with every logon for current user" or "Change screen resolution only" button, Desktop ICON will move backwards.
Plz fix this problem, thanks

Can you please contact me at contact@the-sz.com ? Did you uncheck "Save & Restore Icon Positions" in the Options?

The app appears to work well for changing the resolution, I had no problems getting that to work. It does that very well.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to work well with scaling. It changes the resolution and then changes the scaling back to whatever the setting was but most applications aren't affected by the scaling until you logout and log back in to windows (windows 10 64 bit). Which of course carroll then changes the resolution again, causing a repeat issue.

I have a 4k display on a 14" laptop screen so the 4k is a little bit to small for the popups that appear and thats why I needs scaling set to ~125-150%. I let the girlfriend game on the laptop and I don't want her to burnout my laptop trying to play games at 4k resolution so I force her down to 1080p.

Devs, if it's possible to add it so no changes are made if you are already at the desired resolution when you login, that would probably fix the issue!

the sz development • 6 years ago

Please use the new version 1.24, if no change in resolution is required, nothing will be done

Azure • 7 years ago

So, this program has screwed up my display. I had 1980x1280 on 125% scaling and I tried to set 1366x768 for the second user. The lower resolution displays with black bars around it, instead of stretching. The worst part is that it stays even after I've uninstalled Carroll and tried to set 1366 via Nvidia control panel or control panel, it STILL stays with black bars. Even a complete driver reinstall has not helped. GTX 660, win 7, help would be greatly appreciated.

the sz development • 7 years ago

When you select in the control panel 1366x768 you say that there are also black bars. So the control panel does the exact same thing than Carroll. Is your computer a laptop? Why do you think that there should be no black bars? Was this working before?

Can you please check in the nvdia control panel whether your can enable some kind of stretching?

How do I stop Carroll from opening every time I log onto my computer?

the sz development • 7 years ago

If Carroll opens, it was not able to set your selected resolution. Use the "Change screen resolution only" link to test the resolution, click "Change screen resolution and restore with every logon for current user" to set and store this setting.

Right , after many tries , I cannot get this program to work properly. Each time it extends the desktop to the TV also. It will set the resolution (for me: 1920x1080, for my wife 1024x768, BUT I cannot stop it from extending to the TV. I give up.
