i have a question for the great one , why did you not use the latest accounting programs for Guyana?

AlanPncrCanada • 4 years ago

Disappointing how Stabroek news not publishing my comments. Don't be a one sided media house.

Dr. Victor • 4 years ago

why should they not be one sided ????
it is their paper ,they have to protect from the one`s who will shut them down they have workers ,

AlanPncrCanada • 4 years ago

It does not matter when the election will be held. I will tell you that the APNU AFC government will win a major victory at the next elections because President Granger has huge support from coast to coast. That's it. The opposition PPPC cannot defeat the coalition government for probably the next 30 years. However at some point the two parties will likely share an enhanced agreement to work together closer for the best interest of the nation. At this moment the APNU AFC is the better party and they will win handily.

"According to Leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jagdeo, a merger of House to House registration (HtH) data with the National Register of Registrants Database will delay general elections until April, 2020."

SO WHAT !
I was expecting May 2020 to complete the 5 year run.

Pouderoyen Man • 4 years ago

JAGDEO said Elections will be held:--
March 21st 2019
June 18th 2019
September 18th 2019
In October 2019
But no date given.

"Now it's April 27th 2020"

It seems as if President
Granger don't have to wait
On Gecom advice
anymore for him to announce
a date for General Elections.

MrJagdeo is right about
ELECTIONS IN 2020,
I'M NOT SURE ABOUT
THE MONTH AND DATE
HE MENTION HERE.

Pouderoyen Man • 4 years ago

Why people from India Dude ?.
Y'all had "23 long years"
Look like you want A NONE STOP

The HtH is an obvious and devious ploy to thwart free and fair elections. it is amusing to see the WPA solidly behind the PNC.

The risks with Gecom are numerous. There are now doubts about the Chairman. It is no secret where the CEO, Deputy CEO and general staff allegiance lie. There is potential risks with adding illegitimate names including the Haitians and in removing legitimate voters. Then there are other logistical issues on elections day, then at tallying the votes, a process which should not take only a few hours but will take over a week because people are obviously backward at Gecom. I am all for supporting Gecom but I can't when there is such blatant bias within the organisation.

ABC needs to send in several strong observer teams including the Carter Center.

Jagan Burnham • 4 years ago

gecom is always subservient to d govt. in power

Pouderoyen Man • 4 years ago

Where wire you when the "WPA"
were behind the PPP Bannas ?
I guess in a CRABE HOLE..
Or you didn't see the LIGHT YET ?

Dr. Victor • 4 years ago

the chairman should extend the registration of all legal citizens for 2 extra weeks ,
I am in favor of fairness persons must not be used by politicians for their purpose only, the politicians said it is the wish of all Guyanese to see the present government be ousted then the people must be allowed to cast their displeasure by the ballot ,

Total Hogwash from the leader of the Opposition, everyday this fella finding some
fault with Gecom, he wants elections like yesterday, Gecom is never in a position
to call snap elections, even when the PPP was in office that could not happen,
this guy is looking for attention, if he is so positive about winning a landslide
victory, then he would allow the process to continue without hinderance...…..

Is it worthwhile to have citizens of Guyana at each other's throats so that a power hungry clique can have access to power six months earlier than usual? I don't think so. I remain amazed at the convenient citing of the need to respect the constitution by the different factions of the political divide. There is the power hungry group which wants obedience to Articles 106(6) and 106(7) and the other part of the divide claiming the Articles are in conflict with each other. The very power hungry group that at one time refused to participate in the referendum to ratify the said constitution but embraced it when elected to office in October, 1992. It then governed for almost 23 years only making the smallest of cosmetic changes. This group also accuses the coalition of previous rigging of elections but is now willing to have elections using an expired Voter's List filled with the names of dead people and non-residents and missing the names of newly qualified voters. Has there been any group more worthy of the descriptive "hypocrite"?

AlanPncrCanada • 4 years ago

The APNU AFC is the only credible group in the country. The likes of Chris Ram and others are just not compatible with the modern future that Guyana heading into. The coalition government is enjoying huge support and will easily win a comfortable majority in parliament that will be well beyond 3 seats. Mark my words.

Jagan Burnham • 4 years ago

the list should have been continously updated on a daily basis
only persons with valid id whose names appear on the voters list shall be allowed to vote
in this way, dead, migrated, moved to new address will be prevented from voting

Gokarran • 4 years ago

Apart from the Opposition boycott of the H2H, it seems from reports and photo evidence that the enumerators also deliberately by-passed a lot of homes. The list is therefore a lame horse at a Derby meet.
Nevertheless, I think the names on the H2H list should be published or at least examined bythe learned iron lady even if only to expose the incompetence (?), discrimination and possibly fraud, not to mention waste of money on the exercise.

Burch01 • 4 years ago

Disappointed!
I am now convinced that you guys are incapable of unbiased and objective discussion.
If you can make such a statement with a bold face ,after knowing what Freedumb House had publicly bullied its supporters to do when the enumerators turned up.........?

Jagan Burnham • 4 years ago

everyone and anyone who is legally entitled to vote must make sure their name is on the voters list

SonnyJ • 4 years ago

Do you have evidence that the Numerators purposely bypassed people's
homes, or you just creating parroting what you heard from the Opposition.....

Bolly • 4 years ago

He should also the numerous cases whereby many people refused to be registered because the fearless leader seh suh.

Amen-Ra • 4 years ago

If they bypass some people it's because those same people refused or loose their dogs on them.

There is something about this country that makes you want to ask if's in the water. They must be something at the source of the Essequibo Demerara and Berbice River that is responsible for this level insanity. Why we as a people keep doing the same thing over and over is truly mystifying.
How do a person like Jagdeo with such a track record still having a say in the day to day running of this country what is it about us that is accommodating faxpass.

When a N.C.M is passed and the govt/ becomes a handicap, balance power will go to the opposition leader that will give he/she the authority to make decisions, after all it's a caretaker govt.

Nah, the whole thing should be ready by January 2020, after the Christmas Holidays and just in time for Mash so that we can CELEBRATE THE GOOD LIFE, COME ON - Kool and The Gang, still early elections that Jagdeo wants. Just throw out that 90 days plot thing, that train left the station a very long time ago.

Carifta bhai so sorry that u lost that peace of mind from dec, 2018. Hope u pray and confess. God is watching.

With a software like SQL, it should take two weeks tops to merge the lists. The more time consuming part is entering the data. But that's not the point. The point is to demonstrate who has real power in Guyana. The PNC has succeeded in cutting the PPP's time in office twice in recent years, but PPP does not possess a credible strategy of destabilization when in opposition to force a cut in the PNC's term. Hoyte was able to extend his term from 1990 to 1992. Two weeks ago the GAWU thing was tried, but they can only succeed in punishing their base more. The PPP has to purchase some de facto power - but in doing so there is a trade off in which it has to ignore its base. Of course, the PPP never ignores its small group of elites. They were made extremely rich. So, yes. I am glad to see Mr Jagdeo realizing that election will be until next year. I had said March, but April is about right.

CleveM(Logie Boy) • 4 years ago

This strategic delay was not in the calculation when the Jagdeo/Charrandas NCV Conspiracy was birthed.

Tarron Khemraj • 4 years ago

One needs to have de facto power to exploit the loopholes embedded in the tinkered Burnham constitution.

CleveM(Logie Boy) • 4 years ago

Do you mean that "Burnham" constitution that the PPP embraced, cherished and held close to the bossom for 23 years?

Tarron Khemraj • 4 years ago

Yeah, the same one that was tinkered with during the Herdmanston Accord. The same Burnham-Shahabudeen constitution which was constructed on the Tanzanian one-party constitutional structure. Is that clear?

Buxton • 4 years ago

Yuh leff PNC Cleve clueless now

halley • 4 years ago

Updating an outdated database with an incomplete one can never yield reliable coverage. It is actually quite laughable. Better we don't use the data collected from the H2H registration, or complete the H2H registration and then update the old database.

BORAPORK • 4 years ago

The simple question to be answered is this. Does Guyana have a valid Voter's List at the moment and if the answer is no, how can a valid list be obtained and in how short a period of time? The last list expired in April, 2019. Any attempt to hold General and Regional elections with the old Voter's list must be challenged all the way to the C.C.J.

Carifta • 4 years ago

Eight to ninety present would be good enough to check against any anamolies and bring about a resolution in differences and that is why they are working overtime in the next couple of days.

Prof. One Luv • 4 years ago

Jagdeo you never cease to amazed me. the govt should have called elections based on the NCM. However, because of their (govt) desire to hold on to power and you (Jagdeo) longing to get your third term (power) through (MIA). They the govt has railroaded the constitution that both group of flawed political leaders see as a BIG problem when in Opposition. So this is all about delaying tactics by the govt and they seems to be doing very well, as some of your daily actions are enabling them to remain in office.
After the govt said it accept NCM vote and then back peddled that was where you were caught with your pants down and the delaying tactics grew stronger because of your daily antics (fighting words conference) in the various media.
The govt has failed to follow the constitution you should be seeking to have meetings with this administration that will bring about a level playing field for good governance allowing ALL Guyanese to be engaged in a meaningful way in administration of the country business(es).
From yesterday fighting words conference you told us that the merging of the names will see elections in months, you also questioned the integrity (you Jagdeo doesn't have any) of the entire process. Again I am saying you got caught with your pants down - when the H2H started you and your supporters were against it. Hence, none of your representatives were out there to scrutinize the process.
I fully understand the strongman fight that you are putting up to get back into power because the party that wins these elections will be the party that remains in power for a very time - all because of the meager wealth that will come from oil.
