Just give him Ian Gouveia’s CT spot

Undergunned • 8 months ago

I put his odds as better than Kolohe to requalify but equal to Jordy for winning a title/event

Selfentitledcoolykid • 8 months ago

He’s a way more well rounded surfer than Jordy and I fucking love Jordy

Undergunned • 8 months ago

I agree Julez is more well rounded but I would say Jordy is better in rights that have some juice and that there are a bunch of those on tour he has a chance. Both will need a lot of luck to go their way.

KongsGlove • 8 months ago

I reckon he's a better chance than Jordy simply because of the waves on tour. Snapper, GOAT pool and I assume Trestles will be back on the rotation... all play to his strengths. Plus he's a Pipemaster, he can perform in the big stuff too.
It will be interesting to see if he can still mix it up with the youth.
If he can qualify again he wont be back on till the '26 season... he'll be nearing 40 I think?

Undergunned • 8 months ago

If he qualifies via the CS next year he will be 37 when he is back on the tour...the same age Mick and Joel were when they retired.

Chicken Joe • 8 months ago

I'm commenting here because I couldn't find a recent STAB article about the Abu Dhabi wave pool but I thought it would be interesting to share. Just had a chat with a surfer who's a flight attendant for Emirates and she told me that one of the big reasons it's taken to long for it to open to the public is because of problems with the water temperature - apparently it's (been) too hot ! IF it's true, surely someone had seen this coming ???? The relentless desert sun heating up the pool every day...

I love JW, but every comp appearance since his CT retirement has been lacklustre. He’s been shown up by younger and hungrier grinders who are more savvy to the system.
Ideally he’d be dripped straight back onto the CT but there isn’t a chance that will happen so I dare say we will never see him again in a jersey at the most elite level.
Brutal I know.

Undergunned • 8 months ago

I can see him coming in somewhere between 7th-10th on through the changas and then not making the MYC.

Nor-easterly • 8 months ago

He should also hit up the 2025 Longboard world tour

(unsure if I'm joking or not, he does shred a longboard)

Erik Bogan • 8 months ago

Jules could still win a world title. Onya Joycey!

BIG DICK POWER SURFER • 8 months ago

Imagine if they give the wildcard he wants to Slater instead

Benji Weatherly • 8 months ago

need to see him, Slater, and Frederico Morais (spiritually bald) in a heat together.

Jerome • 8 months ago

I dont see this happening, JW rips but I don't see 100 percent focus from him with everything else he has going on.........

El sebas • 8 months ago

Give him the wild card - would have broken his soul not to be with kids during covid.

Hope you are better Julz - go win the CT

Mik • 8 months ago

Age is relative to lifestyle... Go full-on Jules and let Nature decide. Hope they give the opportunity!

G Patterson • 8 months ago

Why is Shane Dorian the featured image for this article?

Joe the average • 8 months ago

As someone else pointed out, more chances of requalification than Kolohe, but not enough. A pity.

Lord Humongous • 8 months ago

Hell yeah! Deserves a lash at the changas. Still ripping and knows how to win comps. Just take one of the spots from the brazzos that qualified for the changas and give it to Jules. Problem solved.

Jim • 8 months ago

So stoked for this! I’ll never forget that WCT comp at D-bah where he was packing solid barrels with only one working arm due to a biking accident! Takes some grit!

Big Mack • 8 months ago

it was at kirra

Kama'aina • 8 months ago

Would be cooler if he grew the thinning scalp out instead of shaving it.

Undergunned • 8 months ago

Channel some Owen Wright for the comeback energy?

Kama'aina • 8 months ago

That's what I'm saying. Long and thin for the win.

Yeah I've never heard of/seen a single person wearing Rivvia, but then again I'm in the USA so not sure if the Aussies are into it or not.

ThunderfromDownunder • 8 months ago

Where do you live? I've heard Jacks @ HB is burning through Rivvia prod at the moment

SeaGremlin • 8 months ago

Good to hear. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so pretty far off from having a finger on the pulse of new trends

Undergunned • 8 months ago

Do you think the new sleek look will improve his surfing? Less resistance, faster spins, more down the line speed?

Do you think the woz will extort him to sponsor an event to get a WC spot on the tour?

Guest • 8 months ago
Undergunned • 8 months ago

He is probably hemmoraging money with Rivvia. The more I look at it the more I am convinced he is very broke and needs to bring money in. Unless he and Ash are going to start an OF this is his probably the only thing in his skill set he can take to the bank.

Leewilsonstopbutton • 8 months ago

Should surely have to qualify through regional like everyone else. If he can't get through that way then he probably should be in the challengers. Il still be watching regardless though

Jimmy Slade • 8 months ago

He’s definitely earned a WC.
Still ripping harder than most.

Undergunned • 8 months ago

considering where we are the cycle of the CS, he should just be doing the regional QS events. In theory he could win and get second in the final 2 events and make it this year, but might as well go get warmed up and have some heats so he isn't working his way in from the opening round next year.
