I'd love to take another stab at getting together this weekend. My last email didn't reach anyone due to some kind of dog-ate-my-email event.

Going to set up another zoom for Sunday AM - maybe west-coasters can join over coffee, UK folks can chat before dinner?

Chris Greacen • 1 month ago

I sent an email - maybe this one will reach you?

Ray Toler • 1 month ago

No email here, either.

Chris Dodsworth • 1 month ago

No email for me either for some reason :(

Esme • 1 month ago

I have no email, I only noticed as you liked my comment, so I came over to the page to check.

Chris Greacen • 1 month ago

Drat! I'll see if I can fix this for good.

Aeion Solar Here's the Michel Columbier 1971 album "Wings" I mentioned checking out: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Well that was weird I’m singing the chorus full throated to “how about we go” the first time I’m ever hearing that song…

Nice

@Chris Greacen

Chris Greacen • 2 months ago

Thank you Jonny - I want that one to be a big singalong.

Chris Greacen • 2 months ago

Well heck- so much good music! Thank you to everyone who shared a song. It was great to hear some new voices, the long-timers, and have some other folks who came back after a little break. No matter how many songs you ended up with, if you wrote and shared 1, you have something to be proud of.

I'd love to have a little wrap party or acknowledgement that this thing happened this year - thinking Saturday afternoon (PT) 3/16. If you're in the SF Bay area and want to meet in person, I'd be happy to host it at my place in Oakland.

For remote folks. I'd be happy to set up a zoom for you to join from home. I'll email everyone with more details.

Thank you for sharing your voice, your brilliance, your music!

Apologies, I was playing a gig, otherwise I would have! Enjoyed catching up with your last day splurge btw.

Chris Greacen • 1 month ago

I want to take another stab at a get-together. Thinking next sunday AM PT - hopefully at a time that's a little more feasible for the UK folks...

Esme • 1 month ago

Just seen, would love a chat, don't mind what time, as happy to stay up late x

Chris Dodsworth • 1 month ago

Hey Chris, is there a link for the Zoom chat for tomorrow please? We've not seen anything on email yet

Chris Greacen • 1 month ago

Ok- I sent an email with a link to the zoom and a cal (which also has a link to the zoom). I hop this one gets to you.

Chris Greacen • 1 month ago

Know what? google ate my email - let's try that again...

Ray Toler • 2 months ago

The afternoon of the 16th is the one day/time that I won't be able to attend. I'll be on a plane. ☹️

Chris Greacen • 1 month ago

I'll set another one for this weekend - maybe sunday am? something more feasible for the UK folks to join too.

Ray Toler • 1 month ago

That would be great!

Chris Greacen • 1 month ago

I sent an email - hoping this one hits the mark...

We have an ASMAC (American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers) event on Visiting with Nadia Boulanger at noon PST on Saturday, 16 March 2024. We often go for 2–3 hours. A few have gone for 4 hours. Hopefully, it'll be after that. Here are our events: https://asmac.org/calendar/...

I'll probably have join via Zoom.

Richard Awdry • 2 months ago

Thanks folks, this part of the year is really one of my favourite times these days. Zero time for the first half of the month and still got the last 4 days songs to listen to! Have loved it though, would be great to ctach up in a few weeks once the dust settles a bit (I'm still recovering sleep...).

Chris Greacen • 2 months ago

Thank YOU for everything you shared. It was great to hear your music this year!

Derek Greenberg • 2 months ago

Esme I got the translation for the title of your lovely piano piece 'Dúirt mé leat go raibh mé breoite' from the Irish Gaelic. I'd love to know more about your relationship with this language and why you chose to use it for your song title.

Esme • 2 months ago

It is the epitaph on Spike Milligan's (from the Goon Shows) grave "I told you I was ill" I have no relationship with the language, but when I was younger my go to phrase in panic attacks was "I won't be ill will I" so my parents used to say that "I told you I was ill" should also be on my gravestone. I was poking fun at myself and my anxieties.

Derek Greenberg • 2 months ago

Chris Greacen Can you restore the links to all tracks from 2008 and 2009? All tracks from 2010 and later can be accessed.

Chris Greacen • 1 month ago

Ok- know what? I fixed another thing - these golden oldies should all work now. When I put my engineer hat on and went into the mine, I had to say out loud - and you know... "I don't see how this could have ever worked".

Chris Greacen • 2 months ago

I was just looking at those things and noticed they're all BROKEN. I'll fix.

Derek Greenberg • 2 months ago

Thanks Chris Greacen s. To help you fix this, I submitted the following Jira ticket:
Issue ID: 1
Description: Broken links on Song A Day website
Tech Stack: CF
How to reproduce: I clicked da link
Detailed Analysis: I clicked da link

Chris Greacen • 2 months ago

HA- hope that one makes it through triage.

Fwiw, those links are in the database as "songs.netscrap.com/29/..." and for some reason that name doesn't point to the right server anymore. My internet people will restore that and they'll start working again (hopefully). Will drop a note here when that happens.

Derek Greenberg • 2 months ago

Chris Greacen they fixed the 2008 links! Only the 2019 links are still broken.

Chris Greacen • 2 months ago

Oooo- I think they work for me. Which song is broken?

Chris Greacen Tuned to You is another rocking hit song, with an unexpected dynamic shift at the end from loud and aggressive to a quieter, tender mood. And that makes the lyrics even more powerful.

Thank you for banging out 5 catchy, beautifully written and performed songs on the last day of Song A Day. The production is frickin' AWESOME! I love the sounds, especially the powerful drums. I think the biggest factor in drum recordings is how the drummer plays. It's more important than the room, the mics, and even how the drums are tuned. Please pass my kudos and appreciation along to Mark Miraflor. He's the kind of drummer I aspire to be one day.

Chris Greacen • 2 months ago

Thank you Derek! I have a small bushel of other tracks from that session with Mark - all song-a-day worthy that just need a few little things (like wings and propellers) to lift off. I ran out of steam before I could pull a real Berkman.

100% agree that Mark's performance is the biggest part of getting a something good into a recording. I'm lucky to be able to pull him into a stunt like this. I hope you get to meet Mark sometime- he's a sweetheart.

Chris Greacen • 2 months ago

All of the original Song-A-Day 2008 aka 29 Songs are back now.

Derek Greenberg • 2 months ago

Esme "My Dad's Birthday Card" is a lovely improv, especially the lines about trying to find a birthday card with a message that isn't crap, and the way you poured your heart into the lyric, which is the real birthday card.

Esme • 2 months ago

thank you

Derek Greenberg • 2 months ago

Mitzy and Panx Loved your Feb 29 songs. Here's a great line from "See ya!": "If I was coming back in another life I'd be a February every
time See ya! "

Darin Wilson • 2 months ago

Dang! Leap year day has turned into an epic playlist, thanks to some of you celebrating by pulling a Berkman*. I've got some listening to catch up on! 🎉

* Song-A-Day terminology: Daniel Berkman would often try to make up for lost time by posting multiple songs on the last day. I think the record was...I dunno...10 or 12 or something like that? Anyway, since then we've referred to multiple song posts in one day as "pulling a Berkman" 😂

Chris Greacen • 2 months ago

We can all aim high, but only Berkman can pull a Berkman!

Jeff Kellem • 2 months ago

That was my hope toward the end, but couldn't muster the energy.

Seela • 2 months ago

I’m sorry I only showed up for a week. But it was fun. You guys kicked ass.

Mitzy and Panx • 2 months ago

Your songs were super enjoyable and Mitzy and I can't stop singing The Boss of Me and The Gift, The Sea. Hope to hear you again!

Derek Greenberg • 2 months ago

Seela That was a week's worth of great songs!

I'll always be grateful to you for encouraging me to sing, way back when I started participating in Song A Day. At that time, I was very reluctant to sing, but was in awe of your voice. You gave me the support and encouragement I needed to continue to sing. And many, many years later, I still think of your encouragement.

Darin Wilson • 2 months ago

I'm just happy we got you at all - it's been way too long. Hope to see you in '25!

Ray Toler • 2 months ago

You posted some beautiful work, Seela! I'm still planning on trying a cover of Skittish Pony. I ran out of time on the 22nd.

Seela • 2 months ago

@markm
Thanks for the wonderful cover of The Gift, The Sea!

Esme • 2 months ago

Chris Greacen wonderful to have all those songs from you to listen to today, missed you around here.
