So is it illegal or unregulated?

Scotsman Hosie • 6 years ago

Yes.

Dave Larsen • 6 years ago

No, Doctor's prescribe oil for patients more and more. I would assume, as it prescribed by a Physician; it would be expected to be regulated as well! If not, there would be no way of even the Doctor knowing what they are giving patients.

Getreal • 6 years ago

Doctors don't know about CBD unless your going to a naturoapath

Dave Larsen • 6 years ago

Nuriolgist for any patient that fits the criteria for the medication. It’s not what kind of Doctor you are; it’s for what your treating!! Epiliptoligist use this medication for out of control “Untreatable” seizures. The amazing thing is that C.B.D. (Or Marijuana) has driven the amount of daily seizures faced by these people dramaticly. This is the only reason it was approved for Doctors to Prescribe! Would there be any difference if only a “Nuropathy” could prescribe this?? Even if this restriction was in place; would it still then be legal, and regulated? If not, are Nuropathy Doctors allowed to prescribe illegal, unregulated medicines to patients?

Getreal • 6 years ago

CBD OIL IS JUST AN OIL FROM THE PLANT NO THC IN IT. THE ONE PRESCRIBED BY DOCTORS HAS THC IN IT AS IT'S POT, THIS IS NOT THE SAME. THAT IS LIKE ASKING YOUR DOCTOR TO PRESCRIBE OLIVE OIL FOR YOU! MARIIJUANA CURRENTLY IN THIS BACKWARDS STATE IS ON A VERY LIMITED BASES PRESCRIBED FOR CHICLDREN ONLY FOR SEIZURES. IT HELPS MORE THAN JUST SEIZURES! NATUROPATHIC DOCS DON'T PRESCRIBE, WHAT THEY DO KNOW IS NATURAL WAYS TO HEAL THE BODY OTHER THAN TOXIC BIG PHARMA DRUGS.

Dave Larsen • 6 years ago

Well, that depends who you ask. It is not illegal, or unregulated for patients that it's prescribed! As a matter of fact; I believe just the fact that it is able to be prescribed would indicate it being regulated. If not, how could any parent depend on the prescription from the child's Doctor to not be tainted? This a rather large "Rabbit Hole" the State is going down! Are they going to not allow us to buy or own "Hemp" Clothing? How about rope made of Hemp? Are Doctor's prescribing unregulated products to their (Children) patients?

Regardless, of the State's "Major Investigation" into something that has never been known to cause any physical harm, the illegal sales will continue. People are becoming much more reasonable concerning the use of Marijuana, because they have seen it work. It helps Epilepsy, Cancer patients get the "Munchies's" and eat. All good things. Yet, we allow the profits and Taxes to go to the Cartel, or other States! This is the way my Doctor explained it to me; "Marijuana is not legal to prescribe to anyone. However, if it was your kid it helped stopped having seizures, what would you do"? Would you make a Monthly trip to Colorado to pick-up a supply of "Eatables" so your child could go to school without wearing a helmet? How about if he/she was able to play like "Normal Kids"? I don't know about you; however, it wouldn't take much to make my mind up!

Getreal • 6 years ago

I know a doctor that goes to Colorado to get it for her mothers Parkinson.

Dave Larsen • 6 years ago

I’m sure her mother is not her patient for a severe seizure disorder. However, if she is a Doctor they generally believe in medications (Or cures they have seen work). Therefore, it seems that she sees some benefit to this type of treatment medication. I doubt she would supply her Mother with something “not regulated”, and risk further harm.

SeanM62 • 6 years ago

Where is Senator Hatch and his crusade for unregulated medical supplements? Not getting enough bribes from the CBD industries? Or just another Rethuglican grinch?

Getreal • 6 years ago

It's legal in all 50 States this is a bunch of bs. CBD oil has no THC in it and it sounds like an illegal seizure to me. Good ole Utah still in the 1800's

Alan Lerwick • 6 years ago

FYI Marijuana and Hemp were legal in Utah in the 1800s.

Frogman812 • 6 years ago

It should be sold in pharmacies as well as the gift shop of the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, where my brother and others could snag a bottle on the way out the door.

Stephen • 6 years ago

It should be sold in grocery stores.

chuckufarley50 • 6 years ago

The State would be fine if it were sold in liquor stores. The DABC gotta get a piece of the action. It's not so bad driving to our neighboring states. After all, you can grab a lotto ticket or two.

Maynard K • 6 years ago

It was being sold in Target for a minute, but they got flack and withdrew it.

SeanM62 • 6 years ago

Too bad!!

netpilot • 6 years ago

They arrest someone for this but Orrin remains free without any tar or feathers. It makes no sense.

plainview2 • 6 years ago

Sure it does
Politics/money. Legal
People.Illegal

BLedbetter • 6 years ago

Poor choice of words, headline writer.

armchair naturalist • 6 years ago

I find it to be a great choice

BLedbetter • 6 years ago

Lol! Thank you.

Dave Larsen • 6 years ago

Why? Does it tarnish the Superior image of the States ridiculous laws? Raiding a businessman's property and taking products without having a solid law preventing this, is not all right. Utah is so backwards in fact; someone can possess up to 100 lbs of Marijuana and only be charge with a class "B" offence. Yet, for some oil they are wasting money with a "Serious Investigation" into the matter! Trust me; D.P.S. does not investigate anything "Seriously" (Especially in Heber City)! Use that same money to collect more overtime arresting (And releasing) the homeless. That's what one year of legal sales could accomplish in this State. Hundreds of social worker's (And beds for addiction) could be opened and funded.

Lastly, where does everyone believe "Prescribed" C.B.D. Oil comes from? That's right, the Hugh pharmaceutical Company's invested in Marijuana company's throughout the Country. They were not going to miss out on that gravy train!

BLedbetter • 6 years ago

No, the use of the word seizure is incoherent. The headline may be read as the sale of CBD oil has caused a person to have a seizure due to its association with epilepsy. Your rant has merit but is not related to my comment.

altaskier • 6 years ago

The key word here is opioids. This helps people get off opioids. Big pharma will fight this harmless plant and line the pockets of good ol Hatch.

Non_Mbr • 6 years ago

Utah is changing at an alarming rate, so much so the church can't even control it. The walls are closing in, soon we will be a normal state.

Richardv W • 6 years ago

One can only hope. But the "Farce" is strong in the Religious Reich that controls Utah!

Dave Larsen • 6 years ago

That’s because they have a direct line to God through their “Prophets”. This is an amazing advantage to have the direct ear of God! But, I suppose God likes to play around a bit with us Humans. After all; God also told them that “Blacks” could NEVER have that chance. God forbid a Gay person is in the “Ward”, and women are not allowed this privlidge as well.

So basically, the Mormons believe that Blacks and women are less than men? This appears to be the very defintion of discrimination! But, at the same time, they are not a “Business” as well, right? L.O.L. Got to get those tax benefits.

hermanuno • 6 years ago

I have been praying for just that.

SaltLakeTrib • 6 years ago

This Article reminds me of the Story of a Boy who tried to hold back the Tide. In the End, it didn't work out too well for the Boy.

4strings4ever • 6 years ago

Legalization of MJ in every state around Utah has resulted in lower street prices, better quality and a larger variety of products.

Richardv W • 6 years ago

Let's not forget the Tax windfall, something that's good for tax paying citizens. Of course Utah Politicians would rather tax their constituents to death rather than ask the 'Church" for permission!

TrueU • 6 years ago

And reduced usage of prescription opiates for pain management = reduced deaths due to opiates.

The bright mind • 6 years ago

Just like all herbal remedies, some might help some people, some might not and some might cause allergic reactions. We need to be careful before opening the flood gates.

4strings4ever • 6 years ago

They need to pay Orrin so it can be classified as a dietary supplement.

The bright mind • 6 years ago

Interesting.

TrueU • 6 years ago

Malcomkyle my man. Well done

plainview2 • 6 years ago

Should have done that with opioides.

Link • 6 years ago

As a responsible and educated adult I don't need a religious nanny state dictating herbal or non-herbal remedies.

The bright mind • 6 years ago

Ok

Avsfan2119 • 6 years ago

Some people are allergic to milk, so they don't drink it or consume dairy products. This can be the same way. I agree it should be regulated, but only so people aren't being sold bad products.

Maynard K • 6 years ago

Properly grown, processed and packaged CBD is already well researched to be one of the safest, least toxic pharmaceuticals (or neutraceuticals if you will) in all of history (although less generally legal whole spectrum medical cannabis plants are a superior source).

What we need with recognition that they're legal is rational regulation that ensures they're as labeled and don't contain contaminants like heavy metals, fungicides, synthetic cannabinoids (e.g., "spice"), etc. You should have the same confidence in buying these products as you do when you pick up a bottle of tylenol from Harman's or Smith's.

And more in fact, since too much tylenol can kill you.

Getreal • 6 years ago

Have never seen or bought a bottle that wasn't pure CBD oil. They add anything to it.

2timertheGOD • 6 years ago

Big Pharm will NEVER allow us to heal ourselves, or better yet, realize we were never sick in the first place.... Organ Hatch will allow us our non narcotic drugs once these ne'er do well uppity out of state manufacturers pay their tithing!

rodnchance • 6 years ago

Likewise the DEA. The DEA got 3 billion dollars in 2016 and will naturally obtain an increase in 2017 and every year thereafter. That is a lot of jobs that depend upon marijuana remaining illegal, that doesn't even count the private prisons & prison guard industry, along with Border Patrol and a myriad of other tax dollar dependent law enforcement entities. Oh yeah, the drug cartels in Mexico, lands further south, Russian oligarchs and European agencies also vie to keep all drugs illegal, hmmm, it's almost as it their lives depend upon the status quo.

Dave Larsen • 6 years ago

I have to say that I also agree with your comment, as the D.E.A. (I suppose) does not have enough to do to stop the influx of Meth and Opiates in the State. I was under the impression that was what the nation wide crisis was focused on. These people are dying and homeless; yet, let take down someone selling oil that have never had any notable overdoses or deaths?? But, it is ironic how Jeff Sessions is so adamantly opposed to Leglizing Marijuana; but, the State he works from (America’s Capitol), is one of the States (Distict of Columbia) that openly sells recreational Marijuana! The real point it that the Federal Government could completely stop any further Federal Grants to Legalized States. The Billions in revenue would more than make up for this money.

Trump is a businessman before anything else Political. He understands this issue is not about the drug, it’s all about the money. I also don’t believe the greedy Politicans on the hill are willing to pass this up as well. Therefore, the State is positioning itself to be able to strip the business owners of rights to licensing. The Billions in taxes would not be enough for them. Although opening shops would employ Hundreds of people (And tremendously stimulate the economy), they want the profits as well! This puts the State in a bad position, as any profits would have to be reported to the Feds by the State. They may be Mormon; but, they are very good at keeping control of this potential Boom to the economy.

Richardv W • 6 years ago

“It’s not legal,” said Lt. Todd Royce, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety”

Real Meaning:
It's not legal until the Legislature get's the nod from the Church! Never mind it contains no THC and no more lethal than Olive oil!

Link • 6 years ago

The church and their corporate masters in the pharmaceutical industry. $$$$ speak as loud as religion in this state.

Getreal • 6 years ago

There was a company making it and selling it here. Guess who owned it?
