Cool :)
Your parents must be amazing if they allow you to work on personal projects, personally its very hard to convince mine to allow me to anything, if they see I am not studying but doing sth else, they WILL scold me about how these things don't matter and that my focus should be on JEE, was wondering how did you convince them to allow you to give time to work on personal projects, have part time job and well, give you money to hosts these servers and if you have any advice regarding the same.
Thanks
Let's say don't actively try to stop pursuing my interests. They know that I have been doing things like this for a long time and it's hard to completely stop.
That being said, they don't really know how much time I spend on these things or they'd have been mad :P
I generally study just *enough* to prevent them blaming me. And about that job, it was a temporary contract based thing and it's over now.
About money, I mostly started with old things (old family laptop etc.) and haven't used that much of my parent's money to buy things. I ask them to not buy me clothes for my birthday and I also use the money given by relatives as a gift to buy things. I also got a significant amount from donations. The costs that my parents bear is mostly internet/electricity.
My one piece of advise will be to remain curious and have a tendency to learn things, if you show that maybe the attitude of your parents towards you will change. Just make sure you do *atleast* the bare minimum to keep them happy. If you achieve something, that will make them happy and they won't scold you (for some days)
Indian parents are generally emotional and quite "reactive" but they have your best interests in heart.
Hope this helps!

Amazing, I've read some of your posts for some time. Found all of them so nice insightful and interesting. I am 18 and I couldn't have ever guessed you were just one year younger than me :D regardless, happy for you and your paths and finding what you want to truly do. And yeah, don't let our stupid education systems declare what you like to do please :)
Thanks :)
Hello, firstly you need a lot of storage space (minimum 1TB) and it needs to be reliable. And you need to define "decent here".
You would also need reliable electricity, i.e UPS backup.
And, I wouldn't recommend using Cloudflare Tunnels for hosting a mirror because of the following reasons:
1. Poor routing to Indian ASNs.
2. Additional over-head due to tunneling + encryption
3. Privacy concerns with Cloudflare being able to MiTM
The mirroring process is mentioned in the documentation of the respective distro.
The basic outline is the same: A webserver and something to sync from the tier1 mirrors (rsync)
Also, I think you don't "get" the concept of what a mirror is/does because you added a word "distributed" without knowing what it means.
You cannot have a "distributed system" with a single server / location. I have nodes in three cities as of now.
Hope this clarifies things,
Thanks,

how you get money to host the mirror? :P
Initially my father gave me money to buy storage drives etc. and I have received a significant amount via donation too.
I also do a part time job now and will get money from that.
Hope this clarifies things.
Thanks
