In Germany you can buy a castel for 1€ but you are required to maintain an historic castle. Maintenance is the real cost. And it's not pretty. Besides you are not allowed to make improvements. If it's cold in winter you are not allowed to modernize because that destroy the historical structure. That's why no one buys them.

If he needs electricity he has a portable diesel engine.
