There is the rumor that, in the Russian security, army and government, above a certain level, confidential information is on paper only. Not digital.

Eol Awki • 5 years ago

Yes, my understanding is that they use typewriters at that level, esp where national security is a concerned.

after 15 years of tasting disgrace throughout my adult life, i could probably write many pages on that feeling. monkey off my back by any means would probably best sum it up. and maybe it will prevent the rest of the world from invading and killing us all. anything is better than having to watch evil operate

But it isn't going to change Moscow's plans in and of itself. What would is global unified condemnation, but that's been limited.
The commander of Ukraine's joint operation, Sergei Naev, told CNN: "I think that the American leader must say to our enemy to stops his aggression and stop it now."
With 24 sailors still in Russian prisons and a vital sea route now seized, it seems,

Kiev has found itself much more isolated than in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea. The US has not led the world in further sanctions against Moscow, and instead President Donald Trump has, until his last-minute cancellation of their G20 meeting,
entertained a chummy one-on-one with Vladimir Putin.
Ukraine has, if you discount the countless rhetoric of "grave concern" echoing around European capitals, been left to go it alone.

Lol, aufwiedersehen Poroshenko

Robert Mcconnell • 5 years ago

Excuse me but, 'annexation?' is that the correct term for referendum?

Franklin Wisman • 5 years ago

Secession is correct.

franz kafka • 5 years ago

Referendum followed by Accession is the correct term, I believe.

Franklin Wisman • 5 years ago

Perhaps better. The referendum was a secession and an a cession wasn't it? Anyway it sure wasn't annexation as keeps being said.

Robert Mcconnell • 5 years ago

Thanks FW, I was looking for a word but vocabulary dries up with age.

Franklin Wisman • 5 years ago

We keep trying. Crimea has long tried to ally with Russia.

Emelia Einarsson • 5 years ago

you have to get this book of translations, you know where for example spreading democracy means invasions. Where sanctions by USA, for decades, on some country, gives the POTUS reason to conclude that the leader of the sanctioned country is starving it's own people and therefore justifies further massmurdering, this time with automatic veapons and chemical attacks.

franz kafka • 5 years ago

It is the preferred CIANN term.

Latest news seems to be that Germany, France, Austria even Stoltenberg/NATO want some sort of proof that porky is truthful!! some hope!

Emelia Einarsson • 5 years ago

So MH17 was not enough proof they mean? But sanctions were all right, based on......................what proof?

rosemerry • 5 years ago

Yes, I recall a couple of months ago Russian investigators found plane parts with markings showing they were Ukrainian, sent all the evidence to the court (The Hague???not sure) and soon after that , very conveniently, a huge fire engulfed the factories in Ukraine where the evidence could be found.
No mention of this in the "Western free press".

Emelia Einarsson • 5 years ago

Typical west

franz kafka • 5 years ago

Liars like that want an even bigger to prove he is truthful?

They cannot mean it.

Trauma2000 • 5 years ago

Correction: Annexations needs to be changed to: 'acted on the verified wish of people of Crimea to RE-join Russian Federation after ILLEGAL ANNEXATION in the 1950's to Ukraine.

The 1956? 'annexation' of Crimea from The Russian Federation to the Ukraine was ILLEGAL under Soviet and the Russian law with no referendum by the people of Crimea to authorise the joining of Russian Crimea to the Ukraine.

The Crimeans CORRECTED a historical mistake, and asserted the legal authority over their region to RE-Join the Russian Federation. There were international observers there to certify the referendum and it was certified LEGAL.

Roger Dixon • 5 years ago

Russia did not annex Crimea. How many more times do we have to correct this parrot-talk here on RI?

Jack Hamilton • 5 years ago

Deprogramming the dumbed--down, brainwashed morons is a never-ending exercise in futility, it seems!

Kjell • 5 years ago

- when Russia annexed Crimea.

It should be "annexed" Crimea
Sometimes RI is the same junk as MSM, as annexed has been repeated a 100 times.

Jim Prendergast • 5 years ago

You mean when Kiev tried and failed to annex Crimea. Ask any Crimean if they have been annexed. Ask them in Russian.

Helga Fellay • 5 years ago

exactly.

Kjell • 5 years ago

There was no annexation of Crimea. When you read MSM media on that matter, you read junk. Kissinger tells the truth. He has studied international law for a lifetime, 100 times more than myself and 10,000 more than the average RI facebooker
To discuss international law with an RI'er is like discussing international law with an oak tree. There was some professional laywer here, and I could talk with him. He soon admitted what was de facto law was murky

When you ask some US career soldiers, loving Country and Western, hating jews, now "Russian patriots" ... you get the answer you deserve

Jack Hamilton • 5 years ago

Let's hear your take on the ILLEGAL occupation of the Golan Heights by the TERROR state of Israel! The very formation of Israel violated international law but, my guess is that you are going to find some warped thinking that only you believe to be logical! C'mon Hymie, we're waiting!

andrei platonov • 5 years ago

Verbal diarrhea.

Kjell • 5 years ago

The average RI'er will not know the difference between international law, humans rights and animals rights. They mixed it together into
- I don't support it
Then they will tell "public opinion" is the judge .. and take it for granted it will be American public opinion ... in the same way as the most popular music on RI is Country and Western. F**k Russian music ? ... Putin should work for independence for South States and so on, and throw FED out of US.

How did they manage to put "Russia" into this site? Editor is living in US.

Semantics. Accepted the popular vote. Reclaimed strategic territory never logically or legally a part of Ukraine, especially given current realities. Not to mention the legitimate reaction to the criminal Coup in the West. Even without Crimea now, a truly national fair election nationwide in Ukraine would return a much more Russia friendly government.

Pantpurlais • 5 years ago

In 1991, the population of Ukraine was just over 52 million (including the Donbass and Crimea). It has now declined to around 35 million people in the area controlled by the Poroshenko government. Those who could do so have already left, and tens of thousands continue to leave. Poroshenko apparently has an approval rating of under 9% so chances are he'll be leaving too. Presidential candidate Yulia Tymoshenko has increasing support in the polls over the period of June to October 2018 and she has seemed to be more of a friend than a foe of Russia's, at least, most of the time over the past dozen or more years.
https://warsawinstitute.org...
http://www.intellinews.com/...

From the Intellinews link: "No viable alternative leader has emerged from this morass. Ukrainian voters dislike all their political leaders. Even Tymoshenko’s lead in the polls is sullied: not only does she have the most support, she is also second only to Poroshenko in the “never support under any circumstances” category. That is the paradox of Ukrainian politics: Tymoshenko is at the same time the most popular and the second most hated politician in the country."

It would definitely be good to see Ukraine "return a much more Russia friendly government", but I can't see the US/UK/Nato "allowing" that to happen.

Stephan Williams • 5 years ago

Yulia Tymoshenko advocated for a nuclear strike on Donbass a few years back. So much for your claim that "...she has seemed to be more of a friend than a foe of Russia's."

Some friend of Russia's...

che guevera • 5 years ago

I just gleaned that "possibility" re Russia relations from the 2 articles posted above, I would not vote for her even if she personally promised me sex, LOL., plus any government derived from such blatant foreign intrigues as the Coup ? How can it ever be considered legitimate ? The U.S. seeks to capitalize from the Chaos, so everything is going according to ( their ) plan.

Jack Hamilton • 5 years ago

Yes, you are correct, and this was a huge factor in the eastern oblast's refusing to recognize the ILLEGAL Kiev junta plus, Odessa's peaceful protesters on May 2, 2014 we're brutally attacked and more than 200 massacred, although the MSM reported "only" 45-50 deaths resulted, which served as a message to any unwilling to be subjected to the US-backed criminals in Kiev! This statement by the batshit crazy Gas Queen certainly helped to precipitate the ethnic Russians' concerns in Donbass and Crimea. And yet, the US government that hypocritically claims that all people have the right to self-determination, call the people of Donbass terrorists and refuse to recognize the people of Crimea's, overwhelming decision to return to the Mother land!

Emelia Einarsson • 5 years ago

apparently the Chernobyl Trauma is still hunting the population, but to repeat the (nuclear) trauma won't release/solve it.
