I believe we Catholic parishioners could force change in the church by demanding that the IRS revoke/strip/discontinue the tax exempt status (501.C.3) of the Roman Catholic Church in the USA; this could cost the RCC billions of dollars in property & income taxes. They would either change or go bankrupt!!!

Is BerGOGlio a homosexual? This is a question to be raised upfront! In any case, I left a complaint with his office and will follow up with a formal letter. My complaint is directly at Towey, NOT the university. Satan is way too smart to destroy from within.

Thank you for the contact information.

He may or may not be homosexual, but he is definitely covering up for the "Lavender Mafia" (homosexual) cardinals that have been controlling his decisions since they threw Pope Benedict out of the Papacy back in 2013.

The LILY of France • 5 years ago

I raised the question because I don't doubt it. I wrote "BerGOGlio" for an intended purpose. Hopefully, many have discerned well ---Gog and Magog.

In an earlier FB post, I called for Towey to resign. I make that call again, today. Towey is a CINO and needs to go. God bless you Fr. Echert for standing up!

Perhaps Mr. James Towey, President of Ave Maria, is feeling uncomfortable with Archbishop Carlo Viganò’s statement about cover-ups, because of his (Towey’s) own difficulties (with professors and board members at schools he has been in charge of). A basic online search reveals a questionable and heavy-handed administrative style.

Thank you, dear, courageous and honorable Father John Paul Echert, for standing up and speaking truth!

Your parishioners are very blessed to have you as their Shepherd!

I will keep you in my prayers.

President Towey by his statement has joined the roster of questionable Catholics along with his Board of Directors. Our remedy is to stop our contributions and recommendations of Ave Maria. Making this unnecessary statement was so dumb that it raises questions about why President Towey would have done such a thing.

Dear Father,
The church is a den of vipers with the likes of McCarrick and countless others in positions of trust and authority that have continued their lifestyle despite the resolutions from the disclosure of early 2000's. Your sentiments might have been appropriate in 2003 but the faithful are no longer going to tolerate perversion, lies, cover-ups. The Holy Father's comments and stonewalling on the issue, when he could just as easy deny any falsehoods contained in the document, speaks volumes. He has made himself a public figure, far beyond any predesessors, very open to dialog and impromptu commentary. Why then does he refuse to say a "single word" when asked in the very same open exchange format that he is so comfortable with normally? Secrets will no longer work--honesty and full disclosure is required if the Church is to heal and reform. Francis can no longer claim immunity from culpability due to his position. It's time to throw open the windows and let the fresh air of openness and truth fill the Church. Perhaps Pope John XXIII was thinking about what the church needed to do to avoid the position we find ourselves in when he made the similar proclamation back in the mid-sixties.
Respectfully,
Joe

Joe,
You ask why the Holy Father is reluctant to be drawn on this topic. I would like to suggest that he's beginning to see some value (belatedly and on the wrong topic, but beginning nevertheless) to the advice some have been giving him, unsolicited, since 2013: don't go off script on the airplane.

Did your boyfriend help you write this comment?

Did you read the comment from "guest" that I was responding to, you know, the one above that was deleted? If you did and found my response "infantile ' I suggest you remove the "warrior" part off your posting name and replace it with something more appropriately feminine.

This is satire, right Frank? Nobody could be this delusional...even a priest from Brooklyn.

While Towey’s letter, in isolation, is not enough to condemn the whole institution, it has led to many people learning about big changes there in recent years. Some of the articles talking about this have pointed out this is just one sign of a move away from Catholicism that includes eliminating on-campus prayer of the Angelus and driving away many of the orthodox Catholic faculty. According to these articles, Towey was brought in to raise funds, and he thinks that requires obscuring the Catholic identity.

I think it might be helpful to note that the campus (faculty, staff, and students) don't agree with President Towey's statement. One student wrote the following blog post: https://captivatedfreedom.w...

Just because Pres. Towey made a statement doesn't mean the university as a whole isn't 100% Catholic. The education you receive here is Catholic, and I wish people would remember that Pres. Towey doesn't speak for all of us.

Margaret Costello • 5 years ago

Yay! I too was saddened to see a supposed Catholic college support such evil. Does this President even know Church history? Does he know about the previous popes who were called out for their errors, heresies and corruption by bishops, cardinals etc? The Pope is not God. And conflating Pope Francis' heresy on marriage with the myth of "climate change" as open to conversations of dissent shows this president doesn't know Catholic teaching nor the concept of distinction.

We Catholics follow Truth, for at the end of the day, Truth is a Person: Jesus Christ. Let us pray that this blind president wake up to Truth, follow it, regardless of the cost, and reclaim his Catholic identity along with AMU's. Until this happens, I cannot in good conscience recommend this college that supports prelates that cover, protect and promote child predators.

God bless~

Man, do I love a good gut punch. Mr. H. James Towey, as fr as I am concerned is whitewashed beach wood.

ranger01 • 5 years ago

Simply another Catholic educator who cannot or will not speak to the core issue of this crisis: a network of sexually aggressive homosexual priests.
Until they can acknowledge that and speak those words nothing will change. Bet on it.

Thank you Fr. Echert...

UPON THIS ROCK

Weary, weary,
On this earth
Shielding souls
Beyond their worth.

Few are grateful
Some regress
Others proud
They won't confess

When the waves
Break on the shore
Warning them
What is before.

Established
You stand on this rock
'Gainst the gales
Fore those who mock

Facing squalls
They cannot see
But all behold
Your bended knee.

Few will follow
Some deny
Oblivious
They won't comply.

Then a blue moon
Saffron sun
Come together
Almost one.

Fingers blessed
With Holy Oil
You lift the Light…
Sun moon recoil.

Blinding many
Opening eyes
Contradiction
Most despise.

But on this rock
Eroded-rife
You stand your ground
Opposing strife.

Between the storms
And sheep you block
The tempest winds
That hurt the flock.

With outstretched arms
The daily crux
You nail the Truth
So not in flux

Never will lie
Only can free
Upon this rock
Catholicity!

God Bless you Father Echert. I'm so edified and encouraged by all you priests who are speaking out in defence of good and holy prelates. You will be in my prayers for priests.

Glen Stark • 5 years ago

Thank you Fr. Echert. It is very troubling that so many non traditional Catholics are quick to judge conservative and traditionalists. I know several non traditionalists that expect transparency and expect answers with regards to the latest scandal as well, therefore hopefully they will return to traditional values that we so much need. We have to pray for Archbishop Viganò for he courageously stood for what is just. He will receive an abundance of graces for boldly fighting for truth and justice.

James Sauve • 5 years ago

Thank you. I don't care what Vigano's motivations are. Period. There is never any justification for the molestation of minors, by clergy or anyone else. If the accusations are credible, they need to be taken seriously and investigated. Even if Vigano has a book deal waiting for him, that does not in any way make the violation of young people somehow "ok". People like Mr. Towey should be ashamed of themselves, and he should step down before he brings any more disgrace on AMU.

TMM M • 5 years ago

While any abuse of minors by clerics is reprehensible, of course, the wider issue is homosexual activity/influence-especially among the clerical hierarchy.
