Unfortunately the Safe Harbor doesn't protect against continuing lawsuits such as the one filed today by Ken Paxton (already indicted for fraud) in Texas.

So the clown show will probably continue.

"‘Safe harbor’ provision secures Joe Biden’s Electoral College win"

Because Republicans honor and follow rules.

Thinking Republicans will honor our laws, our ideals, and our Constitution is dangerously delusional. They worship power, not ideals.

Have to correct you...they worship money it means more than their kids.

Jimcima • 3 years ago

The Supreme Court shut down the state of Florida’s court-ordered recount because the safe harbor deadline was approaching.

Why, it's almost like the conservative members of the Supreme Court in 2000 didn't know what the legal concept of "safe harbor" meant.

Now, instruct the current House of Reps to file Articles of Impeachment on the turd in office to tie his hands under Article ll, Section 2 of the Constitution which curtails the power of a president while under impeachment. If the House plays its cards right, the Senate will never get to vote before the inauguration. He will be forced to resign.

I watched the Biden Team introduce themselves today. Biden was sweating and coughing, he tried to hide his limp but couldn't. It was reported he refused to wear a "boot" cast, he ought to get one on and leave it on. Getting old is hard enough without daring broken bones to keep carrying weight.
The team is already working on the clean up, everyone seems smart and confident.
Telling myself by April things will start to look more normal.

Donald Trump needs to be indicted for trying to circumvent the election he lost by staging a coup in having state republicans over turn the election results and making Trump President. Trump needs to go to prison for this and for all his other crimes he has committed.

The House will accept the votes and it is only Senate that could cause a problem.
Texas also filed a last minute case but I don't see it going anywhere.

They don't have standing and states all determine how elections are conducted and how electors are chosen. No other state can tell them how it has to be done.

Brent Brambleton • 3 years ago
Brooks would need to object in writing and be joined by at least one senator. If that were to happen, both chambers would debate the objections and vote on whether to sustain them.

I think the possibility of this happening is now quite likely.

You have opportunists like Cruz, Graham, and a slew of others whole wish to wield the power of the Trumpites to fulfill their twisted aspirations, and they've already shown that they will stoop to any depth to get there, even if that means throwing the nation into further chaos.

They want to make a grand show of it, with the nation riveted to every word. Someone like Cruz can cement themselves as the inheritor of Trumpism all while delegitimizing Biden's presidency. Putin could not have done a better job of it.

The unwillingness of Trump and his supporters to concede is “dangerous because in an electoral competition, one side wins, one side loses and it’s essential that the losing side accepts the winner’s victory. What is really being challenged right now is our capacity to play by those rules,” Foley said.

ETTD. Now it’s our electoral norms.

Chelonia Testudines • 3 years ago

"Republican Mo Brooks of Alabama, has said he will challenge the electoral votes for Biden on January 6."

Hey! Mo Ron Brooks - if the election was fraudulent then you are not a Representative. So shut your mouth, get up off your knees and wipe that orange stuff from your lips.

Butch1 • 3 years ago

There are always going to be Republican losers who will continue to try and mess up this election in any way they can to try and destroy an obvious blowout win by the Democrats. These losers should be charged "IF" they cannot come up with any LEGITAMATE reason to hold up the process. If it can be proven they are doing this to only cause problems and just being typical jerks that they are, then there needs to be a special crime charged against them of contempt.

TiredOldVet • 3 years ago

It ain't over until January 6th when Congress certifies the election.

Then, it ain't over until January 20th when President-Elect Uncle Joe takes the oath of office.

Then, it ain't over because The Donald and his tRumpTards say it ain't over!

MsPithy • 3 years ago

I think it will be over at noon on Jan.20th. Either Joe Biden or Nancy Pelosi becomes the president automatically, they don't have to take the oath.

John Walzer • 3 years ago

Our election system is insane. We're a damned laughingstock: alone of all civilized nations, we vote for a candidate on election day - but we don't really vote for the candidate, we vote for a bunch of people who are nominally committed to vote for that candidate - a month later - unless they don't feel like it, in which case they can vote for Chief Screaming Eagle or Barbra Streisand or whoever they feel like.

And along the way, legislatures can interfere and politicians can subvert in every direction and courts can tie things up and legislators can object and although we long ago tallied all the votes, no one's really sure who won for 2 1/2 months after election day.

I'd like to kick the founding fathers right in the mouth for bequeathing us this creaky, unworkable, byzantine disaster of a system. It's come close to collapse in 1876, 2000, 2020 - it's inevitable that it will fail us entirely one day.

GI Jane • 3 years ago

I find the lag between the election and the swearing in to be unnerving, wasteful of time and tax dollars and generally undemocratic. Even without the shit show that is Trump, as soon as a leader is elected, the people should be served by that leader and no other.

Amy Susan Fisher • 3 years ago

It failed us in 2016. The electoral college was created to prevent the Donald Trumps of the country from seizing power, and the GOP fixed the election to make it happen. Then we had faithless electors who ignored the popular vote to vote for Captain Bankruptcy, and the rest is history. How many people in this country are holding their collective breath because they’re not 100% certain that all the usual mechanisms to ensure Joe Biden gets sworn in on January 20 will function as expected?

YonYone • 3 years ago

And now it's time to prosecute the sitting (fake) president for election interference.
Calling state officials and pressuring them to overturn the election is a crime, no matter who you are!

TiredOldVet • 3 years ago

The 'conventional wisdom' among the elites in the media is that it would set a horrible example to prosecute an ex-president for crimes committed while in office.

These are the same 'wise elders' who supported the 'conventional wisdom' that the Little George - Darth Cheney administration needed to invade Iraq to defeat ISIS.

At Breitbart they're touting a new lawsuit from Texas to the SCOTUS. Texas is claiming that four battleground states changed their election procedures without the changes coming from the state legislatures in those states, as the Constitution mandates. They're all congratulating their on-line Constitutional guru, a native Briton who goes by the pseudonym of "Schrodinger's Cat," who predicted weeks ago that Trump will be declared the winner based on a determination by SCOTUS.

PyrpylKyrtynz • 3 years ago
