He has already destroyed the party when they willingly sold their souls to him even though they all knew what a lying scum sucking pig he is. I just can not figure out what it is about him that makes these people grovel in front of him. He's not attractive by any stretch of the imagination and has no redeeming qualities at all. Dumb as dirt and just reeks of McD's and KFC

Trump is going to ruin the Republican party. Trump is in free-fall. Trump's downfall is imminent. It's all BS; Trump is raking in big bucks from donors and will be home free from impeachment. If he wants to run in 2024 he will get the nomination with no problems at all and Republicans will continue to kiss his ass daily even though he's no longer in office. The Republican party is still Trump's party, and will be that way for a long time to come.

"I think, we're solidly into a big Republican vote on this that goes against the Democrats." -David Gergen on the Impeachment Trial's outcome.

"Goes against the Democrats?" I am not a Democrat, and if the Republicans vote to acquit Trump, barring any unlikely and unforeseen evidence that exonerates him, they won't be going against a political party, they will be going against accountability, the rule of law, democracy, and the USA.

Lazy comments like this one made by David Gergen damage whatever shreds of a shared common destiny remain for us as country.

If there was ever a time to put America first, this is it.

Republicans act like Charlie Brown being convinced over and over that Lucy (Trump) won't pull back the football. He will create a new party for himself after using the threat to persuade Republicans to vote against impeachment. When they do he will pull away the football from real Republicans, split the party, and go after anyone who crosses him. Essentially the same BS the majority of Americans voted to go away. Far away.

And democrats act like Charlie Brown when it comes to the Republicans. Allowing the filibuster to continue is giving Lucy the football. Should the dems give in to the smaller bill proposed by those wanting a compromise. No, no, no. We've been here before. Take the ball and run with it. You will be greatly rewarded. Its time for Lucy to be treated in the way she has treated the Charlie Browns of this world. And it's time to give Charlie Browns everywhere a chance to kick the ball.

...destroy it- hell, it was extirpated in 2016 .. Romney, Cheney, Murkowski, Sasse, Collins and Toomey need to create a 'New Reformed Conservative Party' (NRCP), as they have more nationwide support than they think .. the basic god, country and apple pie conservatives are still the bulk of the voters and Do Not embrace the insurrection thug mob bent on overthrowing our country, institutions and laws .. these voters are pulling away from the 'Loony GOP' and switching party affiliation to Dem. or Ind.

JMO, If he gets up there and starts carrying on about a rigged election he should be told to sit down, shut up, and keep his comments relevant to the charges at hand, Incitement of Insurrection.

The constitutionality of the trial is not the issue in any way shape or form and should not be a point used to decide if he is guilty or not of what he's been impeached over which is Incitement of Insurrection. The argument over the constitutionality of the trial is not for congress to decide, I would think it an issue for the courts to decide.

"And maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but ten or 15 years from now when we look back on what people chose to do when they were in office this will be a stain on their careers and legacies."

They do not care about their legacies. They care about the here and now and how much they can grift. They really don't care what people think of them after they're dead. They don't care if the human race goes extinct after they're dead. One key trait of many criminals is the lack of a future sense. Republicans prove that every single day. They don't care and history and legacy are for suckers because in their world it doesn't matter if it goes to shit AFTER you're on the other side of grass.

That's if we still have a democracy, and history that isn't so scrubbed no one will know what happened 10-15 yrs. from now.

I really think the most important outcome of this trial will be the enormous evidence against dt that will now be made public and he will die, along with the GOP, from the public hearing the evidence. It really doesn't matter if he's convicted, even if it would be nice and a whole lot better for the future of the GOP. However, I'm good with dt and gop being tried in the court of public opinion....it will change minds and hearts of every rational GOP voter, if there are indeed any left!

Chelonia Testudines • 3 years ago

So tRump's defense is that it is OK to attack the Capitol and murder police because he believes he won the election? He is justifying insurrection, assault, vandalism, murder, and riot - he is justifying a gallows and "Hang Mike Pence" - by saying he HAD to do it because his fee-fees have been hurt?

We already know that Republicans--we just don't know how many--will vote to acquit. The only way Trump can lose (maybe) is say, "I did it! So what?" After the pre-ordained vote Trump will be out there saying no body else could defeat the "nasty and evil" Democrats except me. Not only am I the greatest or second greatest President, but I would have been one of the greatest lawyers ever. Many people have told me that.

Correction: Trump HAS destroyed the Republican party. Irrevocably.

Granted they were already well on their way to implosion since the day they allowed Rush Limbaugh to speak on their behalf. But this time, they know damn well there is no way in hell they will ever live this Q-Crazy down. They're bonded to it. They can never be taken seriously ever again. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

I dont see how "stolen election" ever justifies "violent insurrection"

Trump had his chance to prove his bogus charges in recounts, audits and in many courts cases, and failed at all of them.

If you lose in court you are never justified to take the law into your own hands later on.

Das Boon-Ka • 3 years ago

If Dems could control events (and they can't), I think they need to let Trump continue to do more damage while Trump completes fracturing the (R)ubes and the Lia(R)s, rendering both into an insignificant minority status, in order to strip Power from the corpo(R)atists who were able to wield Power because of the Lie of that unholy alliance.

In the interim, (D)z have to govern as best they can in the absence of a rational partner ...

Former Deputy Attorney General Elliot Willims told CNN that the problem
with Trump not wanting to use the constitutionality defense is that it
will force all Republicans who ensure Trump's innocence will be forced
to wear the "stolen election" narrative for the rest of their careers.

It'll all burn down soon enough. Too many people want that. Every cohort believes "All we have to do is get rid of (fill in the blank)" and everything will suddenly be aOK. Give them all what they want, the reality that comes will be like none of them expect.

shivabeach • 3 years ago

The sad part is, I dont think they care about the rest of their careers. I think they think the trumpism will last for their careers. The older ones know better, they are just all afraid and thinking they are more important than the country

It is MY opinion the impeachment is 100% constitutional and there is NO defense to prove it is not. A past case has shown this to be fact.
I "think" what happens now is to SHOW that the republicanTs are making this POLITICAL which is NOT why he's impeached AGAIN! We SAW what happened at the Capitol and the months, weeks, days leading up to it!
And IF the republicanTs do NOT convict trump with ALL the evidence to be presented, THEN it becomes UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
The USA needs to take a hard firm stance on THIS trial!
The EVIDENCE proves trump's guilt! There is no getting away from conviction UNLESS its POLITICAL since it is NOT UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!
Can you imagine this being presented in a common courtroom and the defendant NOT be found guilty?! https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Carli Webb • 3 years ago

It's not even a matter of opinion. There is historical precedent.
