Well this sure saves a few faces at RV. Any truth to the rumour that one GR former deputy at RNSW is the replacement?

Grahame Coleman • 5 years ago

change for the better best for him and his family and vic racing good luck

sontag • 5 years ago

Many people will be pleased to see him gone. Any ill feelings people have against him has been caused by his apparent arrogant attitude

xp • 5 years ago

Probably a good move for everyone. A clean start with someone who has no history with others in the Racing Industry will do Victorian racing no harm.

Being Chief Steward in any race code, and anywhere , is not a popularity contest - it is a challenging role & never a picnic. Mr Bailey has done a very good job in testing circumstances. Full marks to him for having the courage to make difficult decisions and prosecute wrongdoers. Bravo Mr Bailey.

Plus had to deal in the twitter sphere era. But sailed a pretty straight ship in an era of rogue jockeys and other partisipants, where every detail is questioned.

Axed • 5 years ago

Let's hope we get a chief steward who just doesn't accept crazy form turnarounds like Ozi Choice on Saturday. Never at any stage put into the race at it's previous start, but on Saturday, off the map, right on the speed and bolts in.

Sparta • 5 years ago

Got that 1 rite on the money "Corrector".Well said.

Anaratta Detour. • 5 years ago

Ozi Choice. Last five wins all at 1400m.Has never won down the straight at Flemington.

Sparta • 5 years ago

What you on about.Missed the start yes marginally, could have went through some gaps, didnt, then got sqeezed behind in the middle ,then went back slid across the tail of the field, got going to get home.Yeah, looked liked he was trying to win that race.Doesnt matter if his last 5 wins have been at 1400m,where talking about the race mentioned.Either your blind, or you dont know how to read a race, otherwise just say nothing at all.

Crow • 5 years ago

He overaced the first 600m last start and never saw a clear run until late, against a much stronger field than he faced yesterday. You obviously would of had a good win if you followed it. The stable were very open that it was their best winning chance for the day.

Kilis • 5 years ago

You mustn't have backed it??? Look at its form Corrector...performs average 1st and 2nd up previously, but has great record 3rd up and was well weighted in an average race. No form turnaround, just this horse's profile!

knuckles • 5 years ago

Ozi Choice missed the start in its previous start and after that was stuck behind a wall of horses. It's normal pattern is to race on pace. The horse has been around for a long time. Sometimes you need to look back further than a horses last start.

Gerry52 • 5 years ago

Very good move wish him well
Victorian racing needs a fresh face to move forward from a disastrous decade of controversies.

rajor12 • 5 years ago

Wonder if D Nickolic will be granted a license to ride in Vic now.

Kilis • 5 years ago

Why would he??All of the Nikolics have found trouble with stewards. I think they are not the type of persons to improve the image of racing!! It wouldn'tmatter which Steward is in charge,Nikolic will still find trouble.

Rimfire • 5 years ago

The Old Bailey? Terry did puplically threaten that if Danny Nikolic was allowed return to race riding in Vic, he would leave the state. Does this mean Danny will be granted his licence back to ply his trade now that Bailey is gone?

BookieBreederPunter • 5 years ago

Wonder if Peter Moody will get itchy feet for a comeback now ;)

Crow • 5 years ago

Only if the new chief steward wants his house shot up aswell

Hanko • 5 years ago

I still can't believe the animosity people feel for Terry Bailey. Terry has done an amazing job!! People talk about the controversies that have happened during his occupation as Chief Steward but he didn't present his horses with excessive levels of cobalt or bicarbonate or back horses he didn't ride in a race or swindle money off owners by suggesting they sell their horses as if they were no good when they knew they were good. All you hear is empathy and forgiveness for those parties but it's all Terry Bailey's fault. I once heard a friend say they enjoy turbulence when on a plane as they felt things were operating correctly. I have the same feeling about horse racing. The more controversies I hear about horse racing, the more I gain confidence that the sport is finally being cleaned up. Good luck Terry in the future.

Protectionist • 5 years ago

Well said Hanko - I fully agree.

Milkybar Kid • 5 years ago

Well said.

Aramis • 5 years ago

Totally agree with you Hanko. The guiltily people hate him,I wonder why?

Gg • 5 years ago

As head of integrity Bailey made many mistakes but his loudest critics are mostly those who engage in or condone the shonky treatment of horses, other participants, and of course punters. Some claim he was heavy handed but those who follow racing know he barely scratched the surface of industry malpractice. I hope the next chief is even tougher than Bailey because the sooner racing is totally rid of these deplorable delinquents the better.

Laura • 5 years ago

I doubt you'll find anyone in the industry sad to see him go....

slim • 5 years ago

Good luck Terry Bailey, you did your job without fear or favor and it takes a real man to do that and as an old jockey I tilt my hat to you and best of luck in Singapore, I hope you enjoy the heat for I could never get used to it...

Ironclad • 5 years ago

Not many will be sorry I think. As much harm done as any good.Too heavy handed all the time.Fresh approach needed. That's all I'll say.

Peter • 5 years ago

He is/was no where near Gleesons judgememts on close races, good ridance ! Have fun in Boogin Strazza, Mr Bailey

Peter • 5 years ago

Singa's loss, Aussie's gain.

Kilis • 5 years ago

I wonder if the ex Aquanita riders who ran to Singapore will be worried,Bailey is going over there..??

Rimfire • 5 years ago

Worst Kept Secret In Racing! Despite the denials, most people in racing had a fair idea he was leaving. Some will remember Mr Bailey for his running public feud with D. Nikolic, the drawn out cobalt saga, feather duster policing of whip rule breaches and weightgate, the Australian Cup protest that was controversially upheld. Tough job obviously so credit must be given for finally catching the Aquinita 8 but still no word from Mr Bailey's team on what will happen to the additional non-Aquinita trainers caught up in the doping scandal.

wingedfoot • 5 years ago

Well at least I can say bon voyage! A strong disciplinary of the racing rules ! And stuck around long enough to make sure cleaned up scandal in training ranks and smart enough to GTF out of the country and move on ! That’s my view

Al Jamieson • 5 years ago

I hope Moods comes back now!

Murray • 5 years ago

Terry Bailey did nothing unless it meant he was in the black. He has an opinion and that is law. He speaks up on a Saturday or if Danny Nicolic is in town.
I watch a lot of races that are not on Saturdays and am constantly astounded of the results and betting. Where are stewards during the week?
