Tragic news. There has been so much sad news lately. RIP Champion
This is why good colts are retired young, they are only around for a very limited time and the great sires are as rare as hens teeth
A cervical fracture has nothing to do with the longevity of collective stallions’ life span!
I didn't say it was.
They are retired young for money, nothing else.
Really sad news. His influence on the breed has been and will continue to be enormous.
This comes on the heels of Sea The Class' death of colic last week and right on top of Roaring Lion being in dire straights following colic surgery in the Southern Hemisphere. He's out of breeding down there right now. Such sad news. They had taken Deep Impact out of the breeding lineup after her only bred 20 or so mares because of severe neck pain. This is just so sad to lose such a magnificent horse still so young.
still in shock. I flew to Japan in '06 just to see him in action and he didn't disappoint (typical this is the one day I can't find it on youtube). I actually wore one of the shirts I got at the track just the other day. this sucks
.
this should give you a fix though. I zero idea twitter but managed to open it without needing login. hope it works.

at 1min 30secs was Kyoto where I was. 50 lengths on any other racing atmosphere I've experienced and I've seen plenty. mate and I basically only anglos there and doing photos/bear hugs with randoms before and after race. form guides start flying from the 100m.
finally found link- my Japanese isn't flash...…….

Huge. Great commentary.
Delta Blues only gets beaten 15 lengths. and people always said why wouldn't he go the melb cup haha. 68kg anyone?
Deep Impact was a pretty good horse and a wonderful stallion. Delta Blues obviously ran below his best that day. The horse Delta Blues beat in the Melbourne Cup giving 3kgs, Pop Rock, was beaten 3 lengths by Deep Impact at his very next start in the Arima Kinen at level weights. Deep Impact would have got 58 - 59kgs in Melbourne Cup and that would have been plenty
and he beat Eye Popper by 9 lengths in above race.
and the Arima Kinen was NOT his next start it was 4 runs/8 months later/different distance his last start and he never fully recovered from the Arc trip where he got sick but still gave DB another belting just after he won the MC..
58-59kgs is absolutely hilarious- he would've been highest rated horse to turn up here for a handicap by a mile. my 68kg was an obvious exaggeration but 58kg is ridiculous.
58-59 is closer to the mark, your suggestion is as usual, miles from reality.
Bear in mind Deep Impact was disqualified from the Arc for testing positive to Ipratropium, a banned substance which enhances breathing. A horse doesn't get 68 kilos for 1 win at 3200 and a disqualifcation from the Arc. Eye Popper was beaten more than 6 lengths in the Melbourne Cup carrying only 54.5 kilos which is significantly under WFA. And no Deep Impact wouldn't be the highest rated horse to turn up here for a handicap because our own horses have started in the race with higher ratings. Kingston Town was rated at 137, significantly higher than the essentially 1 season wonder Deep Impact. Deep Impact would have got about 59 kilos and probably not run a place... or maybe a place if he brought his inhaler.
even the handicapper said he would get more than 60kgs at the time. you have zero idea you and ur lapdog. the Arc disq he was sick and the japs didn't know the med was banned there as wasn't banned locally. tell me a better stayer than Deep Impact you myth
So you are saying the Japanese who cross more tees and dot more i's than any race didn't know the breathing enhancer was banned??????
What did they need a breathing enhancer for???.... to beat 7 other runners....???? So what you are saying is he got disqualified from the Arc because he had the flu......??????????????
Myth = you
You're 100% correct in your assessment.
oh and re Eye Popper- he gapped Makybe Diva but never got near Deep Impact. I think she won 3 MCs too. that's a bit embarrassing for aus racing...……….ye we can all find selective formlines.
by the way one season wonder??? 3 group 1s one season into 4 group 1s next season. I don't know what is more disturbing- that you believe ur own lies or that ur groupies do.
Are you sure he gapped Makybe Diva?????? My understanding he got quite a hiding from Makybe Diva carrying less than WFA,???????????????
I don't know what is more disturbing, you or your lack of groupies??????
Vegas Showgirl the dam of Winx is in foal to him to southern hemisphere time. Due to foal around October.
They had talked about it last year, but didn't know she'd actually gone. Thanks racinggal1. Did they bring her straight back after they learned she was in foal, or leave her there for a second mating?
Just checked Stud Book. Exported to Japan on 27 July 2018 and return to Aus on 30 November 2018 so I imagine she would have been certified in foal and past any danger stage.
Thanks racinggal1. Let's hope she delivers safely. As if the foal wasn't going to be anticipated enough as it was! It will be big news in every jurisdiction.
Complete waste of money. There pedigrees don't match up.
Street Cry's did with her.
I would be surprised if a colt foal did not bring 2 million or more. There will be huge in international interest.
If i was going to spend 2 million on a horse i would like to think; actually like to know if it was a good joining. this one is not...
There is a Deep Impact having his first start in Sydney today. It is a wonderful joining & a chance of being a Stakes horse which is better than a chance of being a provincial horse.
Bit disappointing as a sire he was the 2nd best horse I've seen in my lifetime behind Frankel and he also hasn't aimed up in the barn to his racetrack ability.
disappointing as a sire? leading sire forever and 500k a pop he must've been going terribly haha
Well that one takes the cake. And that is saying something. Champion stallion eight years in a row with 40 Group One winners. Seriously GK, give yourself a severe uppercut.
I can't believe i am going to bother with this. Deep Impact has a 1 Stakes winner every 7 winners. How many can you claim to be better in the last 10 years ? I mean that's better figures than Fastnet Rocks. So your not going to get many better other than Redoute's.
Bit disappointed ur comments. Frankel no way near to him . As much I like Frankel he was better race horse than sire
You sure you haven't got the other way 'round? Deep Impact was a champion sire and may turn out to be a real breed shaper. Poor old Frankel has had the best mares and is producing plodders and hurdlers.
This could be the dumbest comment ever made on this website...and that is some achievement.
He was disappointing in one respect...he did not produce a horse anywhere near as good as he was. Then again, not many do.
exactly;
They could never replicate in he barn what they did. Throwing 10-15% stakes-winners that aren't freaks doesn't make them flops. It still makes them breed-shapers. They themselves, Frankel and co, come along every 20 odd years and it won't ever change.
Equal to his great parental line descendant -Sunday Silence. What a legacy and it won’t fade for generations.
I may be wrong but I think you may have misinterpreted GKB who was referring to Frankel as a disappointment.
specsavers must have a store near you
No actually RJJ I think Deep Impact is disappointing as well and where I'm coming from is compared to his ability. I wouldn't pay 500k to use him in a fit he's done wonderful things as a sire but he had full books of the best available for 10 years straight. Some of these people just count all the G1 winners but fail to compare them to his ability he has never thrown a horse that would get near him in a race. Poor old Frankel is a lot more disappointing though. Have a look at Redoute's Choice and Zabeels race records compared to the horses they have thrown and then you will see where I'm coming from.
A sad loss for the racing world
Terribly sad to read. Deepest condolences to all connections.
Very sad as most have said. But I’m sure I read he had a neurological problem.
That's big news, wow! Very sad.
What is the connection to Redoute’s Choice, other than being a champion sire? Strange link I would have thought?
Wondered the same then saw the Arrowfield story about them having a DI horse racing today as I note you have too. Seems to be a free plug for Arrowfield or a tenuous connection leading into the next Arrowfield story about the unraced horse. Either way, the tacking on of the 2 lines at the end of this story is completely irrelevant to the passing of D I.
Incredibly sad day for worldwide racing, saw him many times in Japan and he was a freak. My Ozzie mate who rode 3rd to him confirmed it and I loaded up on the Arc at $8, would have blitzed them if they could have kept those corrupt with needles away. RIP Champ, 😢
He was just about the greatest stayer I have ever seen...simply a class above his opposition.
Sad news for the breed
