Thanks a lot for your sweet comment Cat Lin. You are absolutely right about the necessity of sustainable travel. I think it's vital to preserve our planet for future generations as well and the way we travel has a large impact on this.
Congratulations on the nomination. Very true. Sustainable travel in necessity, esp to prevent various places becoming dump yards due to tourism! Best of luck for you to win it too!
Saludos y abrazos
Ohhh I hope you win! Even though you dont (but you will) I belive it still a big honour to be nominated!
My husband is an engineer in the energy solar and he is soo against weekends trip here and there with planes, if we can take the public transportation we take it ect. Sometimes it makes me boil of anger when I find a very cheap last minute ticket to a place and he is like NO...but at the end I know that he is right!
Oh that really is a tricky situation.... as you have on one side your wanderlust and on the other hand, your awareness for the environment. I avoid weekend trips by flight, instead I like to travel by car sharing or I do long hikes. It will also satisfy your wanderlust in a way.
Congratulations on your nomination! Sustainable travel is so important--you're right, it's downright necessary. I remember your boat hitchhiking post, because I was so impressed! Fingers crossed for you at the awards. :-)
Dear Kate, thanks a lot for your kind words and your support. It's indeed while crossing the Atlantic by boat hitchhiking that we realized the advantages of slow and sustainable traveling: time to interact and get to know people, time to think of the process of traveling, respecting resources and local communities and much more.
Congrats for the nomination. 🎉 is to winning. Your style of traveling is different and unique and sustainability oriented, so you deserve the award! It's from your blog I picked up the idea of traveling slow and steady and so far, I've win the race. I think Mother Nature will be happy with everyone of we are all conscious of our environment and do all in our best to preserve them. I think Mother Nature will have a gift for promoting such a reasonable idea. Congrats again
Dear Lydia, thanks a million for your kind words! I really hope that the focus of the contest "sustainable travel" will help to sensitize about this form of traveling. Our generation is kind of privileged of being able to catch a plane every weekend, ticking of our bucket lists without caring much on the foot print we leave. If we want that future generations can enjoy the beauty of our planet as well, we need to re-think the way we travel. As traveling is for me a way of intercultural communication and fosters mutual respect, we need to make sure that future generations will be able to travel as well.
I am so glad that you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone, and it paid off! Congratulations. I haven't heard of this award before but it sounds elusive! Your content definitely deserved the awesome nomination!
Dear Bailey, many thanks for your support. I thought, when it comes to sustainable travel, you need to get out of your comfort zone and do everything you can in order to promote this way of traveling.
Congratulations on your nomination! I totally support your bid, particularly because you're serious about sustainable travel. I also love that you were able to do so in my home country (Trinidad and Tobago). I really hope you get the award!
Many thanks Suzanne for your sweet comment. Indeed being shortlisted was quite a surprise, thus I can't wait to see the final result. I think I would never have discovered a destination like Trinidad & Tobago if it weren't for following the idea of slow and sustainable travel. It was by pure chance that we ended up there and it became such a remember-worthy experience as we mostly traveled slowly: by hiking, interacting with the local communities etc.The best was probably when we were invited to a steeldrum competition. Have to get back there soon :)
Congratulations on the nomination! I agree that sustainable travel is so important and each of us (bloggers or not) should try to practice it whenever we can. We've done some sustainable activities in our recent travel to Costa Rica -
and loved them! Best of luck to you for winning the award!
