Nissan LEAF Battery Swap • 3 years ago

Hello Everyone, I am not affiliated with the companies on this website, I don't know pricing, I am not selling batteries, I'm just a LEAF owner who wants to
help my other fellow LEAF owners around the world to find battery installers since Nissan doesn't want to help us.

Click the map, zoom into the area where you live and contact the companies in that location. Ask them what their services are and how much do they cost.

If you can't find a location close-by then unfortunately you'll just need to do your own research to find one, If you do find one that's not on the map please let us know.

If you want to discus your situation, either do that here, on FaceBook, or one of the other Social Media sites. The Facebook one is very popular.
If you don't do Facebook then either comment here, check out the other links or send me an email. If you know another garage/mechanic who is doing installs
then please send me an email with their contact information.
Thanks! Sal Cameli

Thanks for doing this Sal. It's Dale Paredes in Mississauga (Toronto). Always keeping an eye for a battery replacement solution for my 2012 Leaf. Hope one pops up soon near the big city. Regards!

Just FYI: Green Tech in Charlotte NC does not have our batteries. They are considering it for the future.

Is there any shop in Sacramento California that does Leaf battery replacement?

Nissan LEAF Battery Swap • 3 years ago

All I know of are on the map. I would ship my car to EV Rides LLC in Portland OR, they’ve done almost 20 swaps so far.

barbarastuckelidso • 1 year ago

Sharing for awareness and to update your maps. I spoke to the shop in Salem and they are no longer replacing EV batteries. The shop in Portland does not replace batteries in the 2011-12 models.

Truong • 3 years ago

Do you know the cost to ship it? how do I even ship it?

#Dandanthedrivingman • 3 years ago

Prices are based on the number of miles and weight of what you are having shipped.

#Dandanthedrivingman • 3 years ago

Many car carrier companies. Just google 1 ask 4 a bid. Like ROAD RUNNER. that is all they do. There was a tv show for years about how to do this shipping of anything. Competitive bids solicited.

Nissan LEAF Battery Swap • 3 years ago

Call EV Rides tomorrow. They’ve worked on cars that were shipped to them. They can help you set it up.

Derekisastro • 3 years ago

Did you do this yet? Interested to understand what process you went through. Thank you.

EVHOLE • 3 years ago

Most people said it costs from $600 to $1500 round trip depending how far you are away.

Rene • 2 years ago

You can do it yourself with a Uhaul car trailer. If you can't tow it then also rent a truck.

Hello everyone. I am new to Facebook and all social media, so please forgive me if I do anything wrong. I am a long time Leaf owner who has decided to share my knowledge and some services to other owners. I am not ready for business yet, but want to start by joining the conversation. I have done a battery swap on one of my 2013 Nissan Leafs and will be doing a 62kWh battery pack upgrade soon to my other one. Right now I can offer a service of checking your 2013 or newer Leaf Battery Pack in or out of the car. I am in Sandy Valley, Nevada, about 45 miles southwest of Las Vegas.

Nicolas Zane • 2 years ago

Hi Kevin,

Read your thread. I was just curious: Are you in business yet?

Nick

barbarastuckelidso • 1 year ago

Why do you not offer replacement on 2011-12?

Kevin McMahan • 1 year ago

Hello Barbra I am not offering anything right now . I would love to offer services for older Leafs and will when parts become available.

Edward R. Arnold • 2 years ago

Sal: I don't do Fakebook so am posting here. Thank you for your efforts to map Leaf battery shops. We still don't have a single Leaf shop in the AZ-CO-NM-UT area. Supposedly there is a company in Loveland that was thinking about doing battery replacement, but they have never come through. I have no idea of whether there is a source for Leaf batteries in CO, other than Nissan dealers. Just FYI: I have a 2016 with the 30kwh "Lettuce Pack" battery, which lost two bars at about 35K miles. I have discovered that this car, even if the battery were 100%, would not meet my needs such as a DEN-Boulder roundtrip. So, I took it to Schomp Nissan in Littleton, CO and asked them what they would charge to put a 40kwh battery in it. The answer was: $13500. $377/kwh, installed, seems a bit much. I don't want to ship this car as far as the coasts. Have you had positive feedback on either of the shops in Mesquite, TX or Madison, WI?

Edward, this may be too late for you, but I recently shipped my 2012 Leaf from CO to NewLeafEVs in GA, had them put a slightly used 40 kWh battery in, and shipped it home for a total of $13k. My local Nissan dealer would only put a 24 kWh battery in and charge ~$15k, so the choice was clear to me. The car's range is now ~150 miles and everything seems to be working fine. Those batteries are getting more expensive, and the shipping can vary, but I think it's worth looking into.

NAY2GAS • 2 years ago

Edward, The place in WI is brand new for us. I just added them to the map. I don’t know of them at all. The place in Texas is run by a guy named Dex Tan and I’m hearing only good things so far.

Jerry P Concha • 3 years ago

I got sick of waiting for Fenix to install a battery in my LEAF, so I went to a company in Stanton, Caifornia (near Disneyland: I live in Los Angeles) and got a replacement. I paid about $6K total, and didn't mind because I gifted the car to my son. Also: from now on when a single cell goes bad, they will replace only the bad cell to restore capacity, which is honestly in the low 80's, more if you take it easy (ECO mode, 55 on the freeway, no leadfoot). I still love this little car!!! And NO refund or reply from Fenix...

Chris Brown • 2 years ago

I just called Ace Hybrid in Stanton CA and they do not have any replacement batteries available - at all. You can sign up on their website and get on a waiting list, but the fellow that answered the phone could not or would not say what any kind of projected lead time might be.
I cannot believe no one has come up with a replacement cell program to re-load a degraded pack. I would buy an older Leaf if it was cheap enough, and rebuild the battery. Does not seem viable at this time. Maybe just buy a new one, or a Tesla, eh???

Bryan Tu • 2 years ago

maybe you can consider doing it yourself, doesn't seem to be that difficult, look for a car with low miles in the junk yard through https://www.car-part.com/ and look up couple youtube. This one seems to be good https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Nissan LEAF Battery Swap • 3 years ago

Jerry, How is the battery working out?, Have any before/after pics you can share?

Jerry P Concha • 3 years ago

No pics, but it is like new. I bought my car used, but got a free battery under warranty 3 years later. Battery was $4500, reprogramming the computer was an extra $1200, which I only did so it would be like new when I gifted it to my son. $6100 total, worth it.

Nissan LEAF Battery Swap • 3 years ago

Thanks for the update!

Roy Herren • 3 years ago

Why did the computer need to be reprogrammed?

Siam • 2 years ago

Each battery has a software transmitter that speaks to the car. So in order for you to be able to swap out the battery for a different one (specifically if you get a larger capacity battery as a replacement) you'll need a communication cable and small dongle that will translate the new battery data to your "not originally installed" car. That way, the odometer will show the correct mileage but also it helps track system warnings and a bunch of other things that we (as consumers don't generally see).

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks!

Edward R. Arnold • 2 years ago

In addition to not contributing to the emissions problem in cities, an EV (on average) generates about 1/3 the emissions of an ICE car. Take a look at evtool.ucsusa.org. One of the reasons for this is that a large amount of electricity is needed to extract and refine fossil fuels, so one may as well just put the electricity in an EV.

If you want a Battery replacement Mechanic in your state then call your local garage and ask them if they want to make more money.

The job is not that difficult to do.

There’s 3 things you need: A supply of 2018 through current year Salvaged LEAF battery packs,

A Car Lift and a Can-Bus to translate the new pack info to the old car.

Daniel Öster has ones he sells: https://youtu.be/-gLMUeE2mXo & EVsEnhanced: https://youtu.be/AlxzlQgovUA

uYilo in S Africa do not do Leaf battery swops.

Nissan LEAF Battery Swap • 2 years ago

Yep, they do whatever they do. It's like a school or something.

Alan Cargill • 2 years ago

They do whatever they do, but it is not Nissan Leaf battery swopping, so why are they on the map?

The 5th Amigo • 2 years ago

Hi everyone, im looking at purchasing a 2011 Leaf that the owner states will drive less than 40 miles on a full charge. The price for the car is $3500. I am looking for just something to zip around town in, I have a Chevy Bolt for long trips. My question is, will this battery degrade further than this so that the car would be unusable? As long as it can do 20 mile trips, I would be happy. Thank you for any help

Nissan LEAF Battery Swap • 2 years ago

It will degrade more. But if you learn how to charge it up correctly it could last another 10 years. You never want to charge it to 100% and let it sit at 100% and cool down on it's own. Drive it, then park it and don't plug in, drive it again the next day and do the same. If tomorrow you know you need 20 miles then charge it to 100% 5 minutes before you're leaving. If you know you're leaving at 8Am then start to charge it when you wake up ion the morning. You'll need to figure out how long it takes you to charge from zero % to 100%. I guess you have 6 to 8 bars left?. 40 miles total range with a 30 amp level 2 EVSE will take you 2 hours to fill up. Maybe even 90 minutes. for an empty battery start the charge at 6:00am and leave when it hits 100%., Sorry, I know it sound crazy, but the LEAF battery will degrade very fast if it is charged to 100% and left there all night. worst thing you can do to it.

The 5th Amigo • 2 years ago

Awesome, that was excellent and just what I was looking for. I will be back to this site after I purchase the Leaf. Thank you!

Michael Waldbillig • 2 years ago

Hi. Appreciate your site. We just purchased a 2012 Leaf. It will only charge up to a total of 5 bars, (two of them red) on a 120v charge. It shows a range of about 37 miles. I'm assuming I need a new battery, right? Is it even worth going over to the Nissan dealer to see if their charging station will do any better? Also, I hear there's an app I can put on my phone that will measure the battery life if connected to the OBII. Is that legit? Appreciate your help.

Drew • 2 years ago

Mine's hit 3 bars a few months ago while it was still warm. Now for range during winter.....⚰️

NAY2GAS • 2 years ago

Michael, Other chargers won’t give you more range. LEAFSPY is the app. You will also need a $30 “LELink Bluetooth Low Energy BLE OBD-II OBD2 Car Diagnostic Tool”

Hopefully you didn’t pay more than $2500 for the car. A New pack from Nissan will cost you $8500 - They don’t want you to buy it. They want you to buy a new car.

Check my map on this site. There are places that swap battery packs. Most of them are using salvaged packs from wrecked LEAFs.

The prices range from $3500 to $13,000 - The $13,000 pack will give you 225 miles per charge or more.

QC Charge in Southern CA can purchase brand new packs from Nissan.

There are 3 shops I’d recommend, EV Ridles LLC in Portland OR, QC Charge and Dex Tan’s shop in Texas.

Good luck. For me I could not convince myself to spend $7500 or more on an 8 year old car. So, I bought a new car, A Tesla Model Y. Best decision I ever made. Search Google for NAY 2 GAS to see my new car.
