The ignorance illustrated by this column is starting. The pipeline has little to nothing to do with the notion of keeping fossil fuels in the ground. That decision is made by exploration and production companies that drill for it. The pipeline is an alternative to diesel power tanker trucks or rail and most would agree that a pipeline produces less greenhouse gases than the alternatives. The way to keep fossil fuels in the ground is through price.

All these protests aren't helping the environment either - the trash, the gas. Besides it's falling on deaf ears because of who's in the white house.
