Hey I've asked this at various places but haven't received an answer
yet. I receive a "Connection Failed" message every time I attempt to
establish a connection. No on else seems to be having this problem. I've
tried all the available servers. Can you please help me as to why this
might be happening. The installation was completed without any errors.

mark • 6 years ago

yeah this might be the laptop itself perhaps, not the VPN.
did u install the new protonvpn-cli implementation, or r u using the old one from my vid?

the new implementation should work better, but if u still have connectivity issues:
- update and upgrade general software ( sudo apt up... )
- try rebooting the laptop or use a 2.4ghz wifi connection (this has worked for me better than 5.0ghz)

also, this might be because of a huge userbase on the free plan (which is something I cannot solve ๐Ÿ˜‚)

How o connect normally to the vpn?

mark • 6 years ago

yes possible.
u can setup the vpn through network manager (just read Option A):
https://protonvpn.com/suppo...

I just don't know how it would look like in the new ubuntu gnome gui

Hi, i get this message after chose one of
the 3 countries and select UDP "Connection timed out after 45 Seconds"

mark • 6 years ago

r u using a stable connection?
sometimes, this could also be due to an amount of usage from the free plan (since recently a lot of users are causing the server to overload).

so try again within a few hours.

Hi, i get this message after the auth password a the end "Connection timed out after 45 Seconds"

mark • 6 years ago

is your wifi chip disconnecting frequently?
seems like it is, try to check your internet box.

also, is this happening with the protonvpn-cli?
usually, this would not be the case.

I keep getting the error message: "Error in opening configuration file." How do I fix this?

mark • 6 years ago

Did you enter your credentials correctly?
Did you install the 2 packages?

I've never seen this error before. Try to also check if your ovpn file is intact.

Any way to make the vpn start every time I turn on the computer?

mark • 6 years ago

you can try putting the commands in your .bashrc file, but I am not sure how to automate the username and password inputs.

how come I cannot download a bittorrent file?

mark • 6 years ago

Unfortunately, the free plan does not let users torrent any files.

But switching to the Basic Plan will let you use any BitTorrent client.
