I've finally managed to get mine working. Thanks for the tutorial. An issue I had was that Ubunutu could not detect my nvme drive. I had to perform a manual update on the drive to upgrade the firmware. Find it on Dell Support. After that it appeared.

Hi Mark, thanks for excellent guide , helped me to install Mojave on my XPS 13 9360 i5-7200U ! all seem to work accept Bluetooth on DW1560 card , I am copying Broadcom kexts to Library/Extentions - no go .. copy them to Clover/kexts/Other ..still no Bluetooth .. but wifi works. any ideas?

mark • 4 years ago

i wonder how u got a copy of mojave since it's been a bit dated, but my tutorial should (in theory) resolve any issues you'd come across.

but as of today, im not sure if the repo maintainers (like darkvoid) are updating the kexts to still support mojave

jazznerd69 • 4 years ago

I've downloaded Mojave from Apple on my old MacBook Pro from 2010 and made a USB installer . Mojave is still available on Apple servers. I've updated all the kexts to new once . but can't get Blootooth to work. now due to all those attempt to reinstall kexts from Clover/kexts/Other to Library/Extentions and back to Clover ... I've lost brightness and sound volume controls .. even though I never edited config file. how to get it back .. any ideas? and thanks again for reply Mark!

Hello Mark, great tutorial. Could you point me in the right direction to create the bootable macOS from windows? I believe the clover configurator is macOS only

mark • 5 years ago

i would recommend running macOS on a virtual machine at the very least, since clover has specific configurations.

this video tutorial still seems relevant on installing macOS in vmware: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Robert Mouncer • 5 years ago

Okay thank you - I was looking at this last night. Have a VM setup now.

One more question - Darkvoid mentions about CPU undervoltaging but I don't see anything about this in your guide. Have you seen any issues with this?

mark • 5 years ago

i never undervolted, but i dont recommended it since he states that it could result in the laptop being unusable.

Hi mark, I have an 9360 with an 7th gen i7. (2017 XPS13), and when macOS is "Setting it self up it kernel panics and reboots. In verbose mode it says. Has failed to return ME. and in one of your previous questions you said "Its a memory issue", so I did the hack BIOS variables and it does the same thing over and over again. Also My SSD doesn't support 4k sectors and its brand new, in your previous question you said, it was OK. And my screen is 4k does that effect anything?
Thanks:)
Great tutorial

mark • 5 years ago

1. if ur screen is 4k, make sure to allocate more video memory:
setup_var 0x785 0x06

2. for the SSD, like i said in a previous comment to another person, any issues u come across might be ones im unable to troubleshoot. i dont have great experience with a hackintosh thats not using the 4k byte sector (i dont know its behavior)

Shayan • 5 years ago

Yeah, I'm trying different stratergies, and after the computer reboots, it kernel panics, any news about that

Edit: It says something about gfx memory in the panic, is it important?

mark • 5 years ago

ur using the 9360 model, so the tutorial should definitely be reproducible on ur laptop (darkvoid has been updating his repo recently; yesterday that is)

i personally have never seen a GFX memory issue in verbose mode. did u set it in GRUB?

since it sounds like u have done all of the steps correctly, try a few reboots and reattempt the same steps (the hackintosh installation is usually finicky).

If that doesnt work, it's always best to retrace your steps, and see what went wrong

Shayan • 5 years ago

in verbose mode it says Hash data from ME never retuned

Shayan • 5 years ago

still doing the kernel panic

Shayan • 5 years ago

I booted into installer and wiped ssd

Shayan • 5 years ago

Update: Now I can't boot into the installer.
Help

Shayan • 5 years ago

Hi mark, I have a 9360 with a 7th gen cpu 2017 model, and like Div, My ssd don't support 4k sectors. After I install MacOS and it is "Setting it self up" it restarts and gives me a kernel panic. Oh, and I have a 4k display on my XPS13, does that change anything? on darkvoids Github it says to incrase to 192M which is 0x06.
Please Reply ASAP
Thanks ;)
Edit :i left voodoohda kext in the usb

div kapoor • 5 years ago

Hi mark. Great tutorial. I was wondering whether I can use this tutorial if my ssd doesn't support 4k sectors? I don't want to shell out extra money on a new ssd... Also, tutorials for other laptops didn't mention anything about converting it to 4k sectors.

mark • 5 years ago

yeah, it's possible, but im just not sure how it will function in the long term.
if youd like to venture, try it out (shouldnt honestly affect anything)

div kapoor • 5 years ago

cool. I'll try it out...

Maanav Khurana • 5 years ago

Will it work for the XPS 13 9380? Specs: 8th gen i5 Quad Core 8265U, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB SSD, and Killer 1535 (Not upgradable)

mark • 5 years ago

sorry, im not too familiar with this laptop.
also, i think darkvoid's repo is not tailored for it specifically as well.

Major R • 5 years ago

Hi Mark,

I have tried your guide but the second boot up to complete the installation fails everytime. Below is the error I get when it boots up.
Appreciate if you can help
https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

mark • 5 years ago

it looks like a memory issue.
did u allocate a sufficient amount of video memory from the GRUB menu?

usually, once done, a few reboots will get rid of this screen.

Major R • 5 years ago

I have done it as your video showed.

Means that, I have to reboot few times before proceeding with installation or reboot after this error appears?

mark • 5 years ago

reboot if u see the error, just in general

Major R • 5 years ago

I see. Noted Mark. I will try this again then.

I know you are not using Hackintosh anymore but your help is much appreciated!

Shayan • 5 years ago

Hi, do you still, have this issue, and if not can you tell me how you fixed it Thanks

Major R • 5 years ago

Great tutorial there Mark! I'm just starting with the project and was wondering if I can use any other Linux distro for the USB? I have Elementary OS, will it be suitable for this?

mark • 5 years ago

since it's a Ubuntu derivative, then yes.

Major R • 5 years ago

Thanks Mark! Appreciate it.

Trojjanhorse • 5 years ago

thank you Mark! Great tutorial. Thank you for taking a whole day to make that video. I wanted to ask you if HDMI or video out works? Would it work on a 4K monitor? thank you

mark • 5 years ago

Yes, back when I used this, it worked through HDMI on a 1080p monitor (when I closed the lid when it was connected, it switched to single-display mode).

I'm not sure about 4k though.

Lo • 5 years ago

Hi. What if I have a 4K screen, what needs to change?

mark • 5 years ago

According to Darkvoid, nothing.

Applying the 0x06 value should support displays up to QHD+ ("+" meaning to 1440p and up):

Ari Widodo • 6 years ago

This is great, just try it and confirm working on Catalina too,. Mine is xps 9360 i5 7300u. Thank you for the great work!

mark • 6 years ago

thanks for letting me know

Ari Widodo • 6 years ago

Everything good so far, but one question, I know that you're not using Hackintosh anymore, but any idea on how to preserve battery? battery are drain quite fast on my machine.

mark • 6 years ago

hmm, macOS by default is very conservative.

After applying the recommended patches from the following two sections, your battery should be set:
Update: Make sleep work
Update: Optimize the system entirely

Once that's done, just make sure to not have too many apps running in the background.

Checking out intel power gadget will give you an accurate measurement of power usage.

Ari Widodo • 6 years ago

Thank you for pointing out, will try the patches you've mention.

GioF • 6 years ago

Where can I find the VoodooHDA.kext ? I'm stuck to that point, it may be a silly question but I can't find it in the links given.

mark • 6 years ago

It's not needed anymore. It was a kext I recommended by mistake.

On the section Update: Make sleep work, it gets replaced by AppleALC.kext.

GioF • 6 years ago

oh okay, thanks a lot for your help

Ivyalcuiza • 6 years ago

will this be updated for Catalina, or the installation process is basically the same? this doesn't seem like it will change.

ohayoubaka • 6 years ago

The installation instructions are mostly the same for Catalina, although I've had to replace UVC2FaceTimeHD.kext with https://github.com/syscl/XP..., and use headkaze's BrcmPatchRAM (BrcmBluetoothInjector, BrcmFirmwareData, BrcmPatchRAM3).

mark • 6 years ago

Thanks for the heads up. I'd suggest anyone wanting to install Catalina to wait until Darkvoid updates his repo to support the latest OS.

theo_baum • 6 years ago

Now that Darkvoid has updated the repo to support Catalina, what should I do differently when following your guide to install Catalina rather than Mojave? Thanks for the support.

mark • 6 years ago

I think it's still the same thing .
There's probably new kexts inside Darkvoid's folder.

Just delete the VoodooHDA kext.

theo_baum • 6 years ago

Okay, thanks very much.

ohayoubaka • 6 years ago

And by using Hackintool, you can install kexts to /Library/Extensions (which is normally restricted by Catalina). So you can use BrcmFirmwareRepo instead of BrcmFirmwareData.
