I'M AN ELDERLY GRANDMA, KNOW NOTHING ABOUT COMPUTERS, ONLY USE TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH FAMILY. WHAT DO I DO ABOUT THIS, I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
I'm not a super techie either. Just be sure NEVER to click on an attachment or link in an email, even if you think it's from a reliable source. Go directly to a website through your browser if you need to check on whatever was in the email.
That is right. I have a friend who doesn't care and clicks on links and sends emails with links, I delete them without clicking any link. His email was hijacked and it sent out all kinds of junk to all his contacts.
I can email you with an attachment that can help you if you need! Just be sure to click "Enable Content" after opening it else you won't be protected.(This is a joke.)
The list of messages should show a partial email address of the sender or some information. Place the cursor over that without clicking and wait a couple seconds, an address or name should appear. If you do not know that name or address, delete that message. Simply stated, "If in doubt, throw it out." If it is and important message from a family member or friend they can always call you by phone.
From another old granny: Thank you for the instruction. A little or a lot, if given and received with a good spirit, can change the world.
As others said, to avoid most criminal email shenanigans, don't click ANY links in emails. For example, if an email says your PayPal account is compromised, don't click the link provided in the email. Instead, go to paypal.com in a browser and check it there. Make sure you're always running an updated copy of Malwarebytes on your computer.
Also, if someone emails you claiming to be a friend or family member and requests money or says they're in an emergency situation, call them directly on the phone or let one of your friends or family members help. My Grandpa got tricked out a bunch of money by crooks impersonating my brother, saying he was in jail and needed money for bail ASAP. Sickening.
