Hi. My name is Jim Kane. I always seen those pitch -in logos on trash cans every. It says Canada it started. Not true. When I was in high school our teacher Mr. Arlen Specter starter a street and neighbor clean up. This was back in 1973-74. We cleans up some metel drums, painted them yellow & green which was our schools colors. And on the side of the cans we put those stickers of the stick man with a trash can on them. I have I picture of the group of us that was in a neighbor new paper. So really it started in Philadelphia.

I designed yet another recycle symbol which is a simple grey outline with a green 'i' in the center for my website http://irecycle.us/

Thank for taking the time to collect these.

Are items recyclable only if they have the logo? I put all plastics in the public bin marked plastic. Is this correct or should I look for a logo?.q

Ralev • 14 years ago

Yeah, it's good to look at the logo. Although more of them are made of plastic - some have inside materials ( like some of the batteries ) and are NOT suitable for regular bin. But most of your daily plastic trash is :)

Thanks so much for your useful information
Are there any other recycle symbols ...(e.g: a hand press a box)..

Ralev • 14 years ago

I think there should be many more recycle symbols since new materials are being used and new recycle technologies are integrated. May be I'll try to cover more of the topic in the near future :)

The Green Dot means that the producer has paid a fee for recovering and recycling the package.

What EXACTLY does &#39the Green Dot&#39 signify? Recycle something, but what and where should it appear. I have seen it on packets that say &#39 this product is currently not recyclable&#39. So if it means recycle, it should not be on this packet.

Love this post. Doing some rethinking of the recycle logo.

Quick question: where did you find the logo near the bottom - the white recycle logo knocked out of a green circle of product (car, bottle, gear, book, etc)? I would really love to see a higher resolution version.

Thanks so much. Great work!
