A great reference book for the northwest coast is "Plants of Coastal British Columbia" by Pojar & MacKinnon

After much searching I have identified this plant: Vancouver Groundcone or also called Poque from the Kwakwaka'wakw name for this plant, p'ukw'es; scientific name is Boschniakia hookeri. It's an oddball as it is a parasitic herb that derives its nutrition from the roots of nearby plants. It is a root parasite of salal and probably other members of the heather family, such as kinnickinnick.

Thank you! I'll have to go look through my guidebooks now that I have this update.
