The multiple drivetrain route seems to be working fine for Hyundai/Kia with the Kona,Ioniq,Niro and Soul. I am sure it will work well for PSA and others.
PSA is introducing 7 BEVs by 2021/2022. So far we know of the 208,2008,Corsa,Mokka X and the DS3 Crossback. We are missing the ones from Citroen plus maybe some estates and the ones Dongfeng will produce for China

As Lexus is to Toyota, DS is the Citroen sub-brand for added pretentiousness.

Diego • 4 years ago

They are now developing their own cars based on PSA platforms. You can see that the DS3 Crossback is quite different than the equivalent Citroen.

"Peugeot says that, by 2023, every model it builds will be available with an electric motor and a plug."

Yep, 1 Windscreen wiper motor + 1 cigarette lighter socket :-)

Martin Lacey • 4 years ago

Give it another year, maybe two and we'll see the first sub £20,000 ($25,332) BEV with a little over 200 miles range :)

Diego • 4 years ago

I would say 3 or 4 years. As BEVs volumes increase and prices decrease we will see incentives go down stabilising on the road prices a bit longer.

"We at CleanTechnica are skeptical of vehicles that try to shoehorn an electric powertrain into a car built for internal combustion power."
You at CleanTechnica are skeptical of anything that's not a Tesla.

e-2008 (available 2020): 136 hp, 192 lb-ft
Chevy Volt (2012, electric motor specs): 149 hp, 273 lb-ft

Progress?

Diego • 4 years ago

Yes, this is a B-segment BEV and one of 7 BEVs that will be released by PSA by 2021/2022. If you want to compare PHEVs, PSA will also launch 8 of them in the same timeframe on the C and D segments.

John Norris • 4 years ago

Cool. I predict none of their 2021/2022 PHEVs will match the specs of the (essentially series hybrid) 2012 Volt.

Diego • 4 years ago

The Volt was no true series hybrid. It was a parallel-series hybrid like most PHEVs these days.

The PSA Hybrid4 AWD versions will have around 300HP combined from a 200HP petrol engine and 2 110HP electric motors. The Hybrid2 will come with 225HP combined from a 180HP petrol and only one of those electric motors.
Edit: first deliveries will start this year with the 3008 and Grandland X

Edit: replaced with comment above...

John Norris • 4 years ago

I'm so confused! 2 x 110 hp = 220 hp electric. Way better than the Volt. But combined with a 200 hp petrol engine is only 300 hp? Not 400 hp?

Diego • 4 years ago

A combination of different power curves between the engine/motor and how much the rest of the car can handle. They could eventually sell a more powerfull version by tweaking the drivetrain, suspension and chassis.

Chevrolet Volt weight: 1719 kg
Peugeot 2008 weight: slightly over 1400 kg.
Progress?
Americans sure do like their overweight cars.

Progress should be measured in affordability

"or a 100% electric variant without compromising on technology"

That's impossible.
