It is impossible to believe that jews can perpetrate such appalling act of profanation of holy scrolls ! But If it unfortunately happens to become proven, then the guilty one ( or ones) should get the hardest punishment ! It was God who chose the Jewish people “as a holy consecrated people unto Me.” In doing so, God gave them His Holy Book to treasure its wisdom, to protect it for humanity.
God never performed miracles for any other people. He never did so much for any other peoples. Why? Because he chose “the smallest” to represent His holiness and to be an example to mankind. And the entire 650,000 Jews who assembled at Mt. Sinai 5,000 years ago - heard his voice! And after witnessing his miracles for them, they promised to forever be His people and to honor him and his commandments! Dueteronomy is where Moses addresses the entire Jewish nation.
Judaism is our faith in honoring God and most of our holy days throughout the year are in remembrance of his mightiness.
The most holiest day even beyond Passover, Shavuot, Sukkot, and even Yom Kippur is the DAY that God commanded the Jews to rest, and to forever observe - the 7th day of Shabbat every Friday/Saturday. It is on this day of rest through his Jewish children, that holiness is felt and travels throughout the world. And by not working on this day and thinking of God, reading Torah, we return our love back to him.
And Christians can adopt this observance and feel its holiness too.

A Conservative Synagogue is best in my opinion. Women are not excluded to read from the Torah. A minyan does include women too.
The orthodox are a little extreme.
In either, you will see some of the most beautiful prayers ever written. A very personal connection to God in praise apart from scripture. More Christians need to attend Jewish service and open up these beautiful poetic prayer books. Guaranteed to fall in love with and a very different way to praise God.

This verse appears in this week's Torah reading, incidentally, and is one of the most misunderstood verses by most people. It is NOT meant to be literal (ie: if someone pokes out a person's eye, we poke out his eye in revenge). Absolutely horrific. The inference from the article that secular Jews committed this awful crime is difficult to absorb as it is so shocking to contemplate. If so it is comparatively much worse than if Muslim Arabs - the enemy broke into the synagogue and did the vandalism. Jews of every persuasion need to band together to confront Israel's enemies and not be divided and in conflict. The whole community needs to come together and a lot of soul searching needs to be done given if it is so antipathy within Israeli society apparently has come to this.
