Well... it seems that the religious right is making big inroads (it seems that Bibi refused to promise to pass a law on drafting of Haredim to the army, and that collapsed the talks)... can ANYBODY imagine a modern Israel becoming a "ayatollah" state?
The ultra-Orthodox have way too many rights, they have separate schools, have a lot of kids (which is GOOD), but they don't teach them anything that has to do with real world - maths, physics, they decide who is a Jew or who isn't (converted Jews), they have the monopoly over marriage, burials, living (basically) apart, all while taking advantage of the modern society, modern health care, modern infrastructure and getting subsidized for their lifestyle.

I don't think those are the choices, Apache. If Divine Law, as you call it, could be implemented on one side of the Seam Line, it could be implemented on the other as well. But first let's see if any form of Israeli law can be implemented in the disputed territories.

What I posed was more of a rhetorical observation really. I know Israel cannot implement the sacrificial code as specified in Torah because there is no longer a Temple or sanctified place where the G-d of Abraham has placed his name and the laws regarding rest for the land are aimed at a farming community not a high-tech modern society. My comment was just to point out that while Bibi and others get all hot and bothered

about the suggestion that Israel could once again be governed in strict adherence to Torah, those folks have no objection to Judea and Samaria being governed chiefly by the laws of the last Arab and Turkish occupiers.
