When Israel was declared a State in 1948 there were 500,000 Palestinian Arabs living in the area with hundreds of thousands of Jews. Five Arab armies descended on the new State to wipe out the Jews. They told the Arab population too leave and come back when all the Jews were eliminated. Those Arabs who fled East were stopped by their Jordanian brothers in Judea and Samaria and put in refugee camps. They were in those deplorable conditions until 1967 when the IDF freed them during the Six Day War. The Arabs that fled West were stopped by their Egyptian brothers in Gaza Egypt and put into a refugee camp there. They still are in the Gaza area under the control of the terror organization Hamas.
