If Kor wants to forgive Nazis for crimes committed against her, that is her business. But I do agree she has no right to speak for your parents or your family, just has she has no right to speak for those uncles, aunts, and cousins of my family who perished, or my grandparents and parents who were forced from their homes and what they built for their families.

Anyway, if she feels that it is the only way to get on with her life, that is her business. Most survivors and refugees I have known, including the entire older generation of my family, managed to get on with their lives without forgiving the Nazis. Now you're getting into a philosophical discussion which will require more room than what we have here. I will just say I will not criticize Kor, because forgiving those who harmed her is her business. Besides I don't feel I have the right to attack a survivor on how they choose to deal with the past. After all, I didn't experience the camps myself. I only say she does not have the right to forgive on behalf of others, and let it go at that.

As for publishing the story, regardless of what she thought and did, Kor is a well known individual, so despite what she says and does, it is a valid news story.

Forgiveness can be a difficult thing to understand and, therefore, do. It is NOT extending a pardon to the perpetrator, which so many people think. It is a way for the victim to be released from the power of that perpetrator, something Eva knew and succeeded in doing.
