But it does not protect your eyes and it probably won't fit tight enough for perfect protection. Get one of those rubber gas masks with built in eye protection. They ain't cheap. On Amazon, projected delivery dates run from May 8 to June 30.

Actually, the purpose is to prevent the wearer from spreading the virus if they have it and don't know it. So if you're wearing the mask, and you cough, the mask will stop the particles from spreading into the air and onto surfaces, thus preventing others from contracting the virus that you would have given them. If you want to stop most of what you might breath in, you need an N95 type mask, which will give you a 95% chance of stopping it. The purpose of the mask is to prevent you from spreading it. Now, if you want to prevent yourself from getting it, you're going to need a hazmat suit, with all that entails. BTW, the "rubber gas masks" aren't foolproof either. Nothing is.

But a Scott Air Pack, properly fitted and seal tested, would do it for about 20 minutes, assuming the tank was filled with virus free air.
