Here is a link to the Hubble Legacy Field exposure. There are 265,000 galaxies in this picture, it may take a few seconds to download, but it's cool as hell!! If you can zoom in, every single little dot you can see is a galaxy.

I could have sent the high resolution, but I didn’t want to lock up someone’s device.

Thanks. He brings it on himself with the whole "thermal fist" nonsense, but your remark WAS very extreme in response to someone who has simply called you "boring". Measured responses allow for a lengthy exchange of death-by-a-thousand-paper-cuts escalation. Going from 0 to 60 in only a half dozen comments brings the mods in and ends all of the fun.

It is certainly humbling. Thanks David. Amazing picture!

Typo_Knig • 4 years ago

This is great! But how can we use it to crush our enemies?

Decent Thermos Raul • 4 years ago

Imbedded laser that gets magnified through the lenses.

Hum he is such a bottom.

I have him blocked again so I wonder what he is saying.

Something nice I am sure.

Mr. PRESIDENT • 4 years ago

When you claimed you don't lie, that was a lie.

Increasingly, I am persuaded that the human race is an evolutionary misfire destined to populate, pollute and/or nuke itself into extinction.

Yep. And climate deniers only make it seem doubly so.

You are very welcome.

Great to see Hubble still cranking out the fantastic imagery. Hard to believe that at one point they were going to junk it. Maybe more space exploration Instead of Trump's ridiculous "Space Farce" (a rehash of Ronald Reagan's equally ridiculous "Star Wars" nonsense).

disqus_phule555 • 4 years ago

You got to get people up there in any capacity you can before the rest of the people will start to want to pay money to get there.

Love those dust lanes. And love them when I see them in my telescopes.

Ha! Looks like baby poop! What a waste of money!

Primewonk • 4 years ago

I always love it when folks complain this is a waste of money. When Hubble was first launched, the first light images were blurry. Turns out there was an error in how the mirror was ground. It would take several years for a physical fix to be built and sent up by the shuttle. So a group of engineers designed a software fix to digitally manipulate the images. Worked great. Turns out that years later, those engineers applied that software to digital mammography images. It greatly improved the ability for earlier diagnosis and treatment.

So the next time you bitch about the cost, think of the women's lives who have been saved.

50M light years and still no sign of ET

disqus_phule555 • 4 years ago

nope we can see stars and galaxies but not grains of sand on the planets we believe are there.

Rocky • 4 years ago

Without any doubt, there are many solar systems within that galaxy just as they are in the Milky Way.

disqus_phule555 • 4 years ago

Can you prove it?

Science believes their readings are correct but no one has been there so they could just be seeing reflections of our own solar system from a rock in space.
