During my first days as a hiker, I used to struggle a lot and had it not been for the amazing hiking buddies that I had, I probably would have quit. I would often complain of hurting muscles and aching joints on the second day of the hike and sometimes I would lag behind cursing every minute of the hike. One of them noticed it and recommended that I begin jogging or running at least three times a week before we went for the next trip. His advice worked because after that, the next hike became easier and I struggled a lot less.

Personally, I learnt the hard way that I needed cardiopulmonary, hiking muscles, and hiking gear. Make sure you learn as much as you can, and hike with the experts to learn more in the fields.

I have witnessed first-hand the magic that backpacking can do in transforming the body of a person. Before I convinced my twenty year old sister to start going for hiking trips with me, she had serious weigh gain issues and she had almost given up on getting back into shape. However, after a few backpacking expeditions, she began shedding of weight slowly and now she looks better than ever before and her self-esteem is up a notch. She cannot get enough of backpacking.
