Probably not, I think what Thorfinn would do is probably when the punch connects to his face he will sway it to the direction where the punch is going to lessen the damage he would get, like if he gets hit in the left cheeks and the punch is going to the right he would also turn his head to the right. It's a pretty common technique in boxing and other martial arts, but its pretty damn hard to master.

Like Thorfinn said, there's a trick to taking a hit and he's used to it. Whether it's contracting muscles before impact or slightly moving to offset the momentum to a hit, I'm positive Thorfinn knows a way to negate or reduce the damage done by the upcoming blows regardless of his size to the bear killer.
